Abstract

Waxed vegetable plants (Saccharum edule) have a variety of species, can be found in several regions in Indonesia. This study aims to determine the types of vegetable candles in West Halmahera Regency, North Maluku Province. The research was carried out in nine sub-districts, 36 villages and involved 108 farmer owners. Research uses exploration and identification methods. Variables observed included stem shape, stem color, stem length, and plant height, as well as the color and length of the flower. The results of the study found that there were five types of vegetable candles namely short white, long white, long yellow, short yellow, and long white with reddish tree trunks. The five types of plants can be found throughout the sub-districts in West Halmahera Regency, Maluku Province. Keywords: West Halmahera, Saccharum edule, Wax vegetable

Abstract

Chili (Capsicum annnum L.) is one of the horticultural commodities that has economic value. The aim of the research was to determine the effect of root extract of tubal (Derris elliptica) on various concentration levels to control Trips pavispinnus in red chili plants. The treatment tried is three extra concentrations of the tubal root; 10, 20, and 30 g of tubal root / water and one treatment without tubal roots as a control. The treatment was designed using a randomized block design with three replications. Rensposes observed were percentages of Trips pavispinnus mortality. The results showed that the extract of the root of the tuba can control the pest of Trips pavispinnus. The concentration of 10 g / L of water can kill the Trips pavispinnus to 74.42% on the day after application. To be able to prevent the loss of red chilli plants due to a series of  Trips pavispinnus, farmers can take advantage of extracts from the root of the tube, and are an environmentally friendly pest control method. Keywords: Chili, Derris elliptica, Tuba root, Trips pavispinnus

Abstract

Potatoes (Solanum tuberosum L.) which are comonly grown  in the highland with Andisols require organic and inorganic fertilizers to maintain soil health  and increase yield. The purpose of field experiment  was to obtain information on the effect of vermicompost with and without NPK fertilizer  on soil acidity,  soil phosphor (P) availability and P uptake in potatoes shoot; as well as yield and quality of tuber. The experimental design was a randomized block design with eight treatments and three replication. The treatment consisted of a combination of vermicompost doses (5 and 10 t/ha)  with NPK fertilizer doses (0; 0.5 t/ha and 1 t/ha). The two control treatments were 1) without fertilizer and 2) the method of fertilizing local farmers included 10 t /ha chicken manure and 1 t/ha NPK fertilizer. This experiment verified  that vermicompost and NPK fertilizer increased plant height as well as soil P availability and acidity compared to those of control. Vermicompost has not yet substitute chicken manure to obtain the same tuber production although the percentage of marketable tuber was quite similar.  Keywords : Andisols, NPK Fertilizer, Phosphorus, Potato, Vermicompost.
