Abstract

Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)  is a psychiatric and neurological disorder characterized by repeating experiences, avoidance, and hyperarousal. Brainspotting therapy (BSP) is a new body and brain treatment that claims to be effective in treating trauma and  providing access to the brain. However, limited trials using neuroimaging have been done. A single-subject pretest-posttest design was applied in this study with two subjects (n = 1 PTSD; n = 1 Healthy Control; HC). Thirty sessions with online BSP were given to the PTSD subjects. 18FDG PET measurements and clinical assessment using HAM-A, DASS, and PCL-5 were taken for both subjects before and after treatment. The SDMAC value of brain 18FDG PET derived from NeuroQTMsoftware was used quantitatively between the PTSD and HC subjects to evaluate the glucose metabolism level of the mid-frontal cortex (MFC) and medial temporal cortex(MTC), which is associated with PTSD. Measurements taken post-treatment for clinical assessment exhibited a reduction in PTSD symptoms while PET scans demonstrated varied results. The findings of this study indicate that online BSP is effective for improving PTSD symptoms and has various effects on brain glucose metabolism. The limitations and suggestions of the study are discussed for further research.

The home is the first point of contact of an individual’s learning. Some societal factors such as lack or inefficiency of safety, residential location and poverty alienation policies have conferred a sense of inequality among the citizenry. This study is focused on the efficacy of parental socio-economic status, parenting styles and academic performance of secondary school students in Ojo Local Government Area, Lagos State. Three research questions guided the study. The researcher adopted a descriptive survey research. A self-developed research instrument with a reliability index of 0.85 was used to collect data. Findings showed that there was no significant difference in the academic performance of secondary school students in Biology on the basis of their parenting styles, F(3, 448) = 2.552; p = 0.055. Also, there was significant composite contribution of parental socio-economic status and parenting styles on the students’ academic performance (F(2, 449) = 67.194; p < 0.05).

Abstract

Objectives: This study was conducted to reveal differences in cultural awareness based on gender, age, ethnicity, and region of origin. Methods: The research conducted to reveal differences in student cultural awareness based on gender, age, ethnicity, and region of origin is a comparative type. The research sample amounted to 41 people who were selected using the accidental sampling technique. Data was collected by giving the cultural awareness instrument directly to the sample. The research datasets were processed using univariate and multivariate analysis. Results: The results showed that the average cultural awareness score of students was 71.8%, with SD 1.04 being in the medium category. There is no significant difference in student cultural awareness based on gender, age, ethnicity, and region of origin. Differences in gender, age, ethnicity, and region of origin have no impact on the cultural awareness they have. External efforts are needed to increase cultural awareness so that cross-cultural counseling activities can be carried out properly and appropriately. Conclusion: The mastery of student cultural awareness has an impact on the cross-cultural counseling activities that will be carried out. The results of this study can be used as a guide for teachers in the guidance and counseling study program to consider the treatment that can be given to increase the cultural awareness of students in implementing cross-cultural counseling.

Abstract

Earthquake as a disaster experienced by various regions, especially Lombok, caused psychological disturbances for its victims. These psychological disorders include post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) which arise when the same symptoms occur when an earthquake is experienced. The victim experienced a severe psychological condition due to sensory and perception of the earthquake as a dangerous thing. The victims of this earthquake need to get psychological treatment. The research objective is to examine teh effectiveness of Ifdil Perceptual Light Technique for Reducing Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Ifdil perceptual light technique (IPLT) is one of the treatments that can be given to overcome PTSD caused of earthquake. Intervention using IPLT through sensory and perceptual modification of individuals through the light spectrum. This research uses single-subject design to seven subjectwho have experience a PTSD symptom of earthquake.Design research using design A-B-A single subject research. The instrument  used are observation, interview, scaling technique and DSM-IV.Data were analyzed using the nonparametricWilcoxon signed-rank test. The result indicate that the respondents were high PTSD level before given IPLT. However after treatment, the symptom levels of respondents decreased.  On the basis of the Wilcoxon test results, it also was found that the PTSD level of respondent before and after the IPLT’S treatment declined. The result shows that IPLT is effective in reducing PTSD disorders in earthquake victims. IPLT can be one alternative treatment in helping earthquake victims who experience psychological disorders.
