Abstract

This study investigated the influence of the phases of identity development as identified by the Optimal Theory Applied to Identity Development (OTAID) framework on multicultural counselling competencies among the counsellor trainees in Universiti Malaysia Sarawak. This proposed research utilized correlational research design. 93 counsellor trainees were recruited for data collection by using purposive sampling. Three instruments were implemented in this study, which are Self-Identity Inventory (SII), Multicultural Awareness/ Knowledge/ Skills Survey (MAKSS), and Marlowe-Crowne Social Desirability Scale- Short (MCSDS-S).. The collected data were analyzed using Pearson Coefficient Correlation and Multiple Regression. The findings revealed that there is no relationship between identity development and multicultural counselling competencies. Likewise, no significant influence was found between identity development and multicultural counselling competencies. While Multicultural Skills did not predict by any phase of identity development, for no significant influence of identity development was found on Multicultural Skills.

Abstract

Teachers’ beliefs are a personal construct that can provide understandings, perceptions, and evaluation of teachers' practices. The purpose of this research was to find out the students' perceptions toward teachers' beliefs and their effect on students' achievement in English as a general subject at Universitas Negeri Padang. This research was ex-post facto research. The students of English as a general subject in 2018/2019 academic year were the population of this study. The sample was chosen by using a random sampling technique in which there were 150 students chosen as the subjects of this research. The data were taken by using a Likert-scale questionnaire and analyzed by using SPSS Statistics 18 Software. The result showed that there were no significant effects of teachers' beliefs on students' achievement. H0 was accepted because the t-value was lower than the t-table. The value of the t-value was 1.008, while the t-table was 6.313.

Abstract

This research is based on millennial performance needs in guidance and counseling services in Palembang. Millennial is a dynamic generation and skilled in technology, but also afraid of loyalty and commitment. Also, millennial school counselors are expected to be able to overcome the gap between the majority of school counselors who belong to Gen X by the way students as generation z solve problems. Therefore, swot analysis is important to obtain an overview of the opportunities and challenges of millennial school counselors that will be the basis for the development of the counseling profession in the current era. Research using survey methods. Surveys are used to obtain an accurate and clear picture of the strengths and weaknesses shown by the millennium, as a basis for mapping challenges and opportunities. The results found that the challenge of millennial school counselors was in the use of technology, and they had the opportunity to develop professionalism consistently. Study recommendations for optimizing the strength of Millennial school counselors are 1) maximizing digital literacy, 2) using design thinking in innovation, 3) Habits as consumers must be changed with more critical and creative application of process technology.

Abstract

This study uses films to provide positive stimulation for students. So that students can develop self-confidence and independence in solving problems. The problems that relate to personal, social, academic, and career. The purpose of this study is analyze the used of films in group guidance service to improve students' problem solving skills. This used experimental study with one group pretest-posttest design. The participants were ten junior high school students with low level of problem-solving skill. They were selected using purposive sampling technique. Problem-solving skill scale was employed as the instrument of the study. The reliability test shows the reliability coefficient of 0.926. The data were analyzed using Wilcoxon Sign Rank Test. This study found that movie is effective to improve student’s problem-solving skill. Based on the finding of the study, the counselors and future studies are suggested to consider effective media to help students to improve their problem-solving skill.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze exam anxiety among vocational school students in professional placement based on gender. This is a quantitative research that uses descriptive and comparative methods and a sample of 115 individuals selected through proportional random sampling technique. Data is obtained using an instrument of exam anxiety and were analyzed descriptively by determining mean, standard deviation, and percentage. To determine the difference in anxiety among vocational school students, the t-test technique with analyzed Independent Samples Test was used. The results showed that exam anxiety was generally in the low and high categories in male and female students, respectively. Also, there was a significant difference between students in the professional placement of male and female students.

Abstract

Emotional Intelligence is highly necessary aspect that covers students’ ability to use their emotion effectively in the learning process. Good Emotional Intelligence provides the students with appropriate ability which can help them take the best decision for their future. The lack of Emotional Intelligence often makes students feel stressed and depressed. It leads the students to destructive behaviors such as uncontrolable anger, lack of decision-making ability, and despair. Therefore, the students need to be trained to recognize, control, and develop their Emotional Intelligence in a positive way. This research is a library research, which is done by searching, reading, studying, and analyzing the content of related books and various supporting literature. Based on the research, it is concluded that school plays an important role to provide a professional counselor who can help the students improve their Emotional Intellligence effectively. The counselor is expected to have various approaches in developing student Emotional Intellegence, one of which is Humanistic and Existential Approach. This approach covers essential concepts the students have as human beings, such as what they are meant to be and what potentials they have. Through this approach, a school counselor can help students understand more about managing and controlling emotion in a positive way.
