Abstract

The system of National Election which based on the principle of one man one vote one value aims to ensurethe sovereignty of the people through free suffrage and equal, in accordance with the supremacy of law. Thisprinciple does not apply to traditional Indonesian society, especially in Papua, because in this society theelection uses acclamation or better known as Noken. The practice of election by acclamation first acknowledged constitutionally by the Court of Constitution (MK) through  Decision with number 47-81 / PHPU.A-VI/ 2009. Substantively, Noken has turned the idea of deliberative democracy and able to realize the people’ssovereignty for indigenous peoples.

Abstract

Finding Muslim students learn in the schools by run other faiths in an era of democratization it looks as ifnot innocuous because of strong primordial ties regional, cultural, tribal and religious schools into the publicdomain like though. Interestingly, for the academic year 2012/2013 the majority students of high school (SMA)Donbosco Padang are students of Islamic. So interesting to study the factors and their reasons to learn in SMADonbosco and how they recognize and accept the diversity that is rooted primarily on ethnicity and religion.By using the framework of Marx Weber's theory of rationality and social construction theory of Peter L. Berger,combined with the theory of civic pluralism; recognition and representation, the research concluded that thefirst are certain rational considerations why they choice SMA Donbosco. The second, both externalizing andexperience through their objectivization can acknowledge and accept ethnic differences and religious.

Bryan Stanley Turner adalah satu di antara ilmuan terkemuka di dunia. Sosiolog yang lahir pada14 Januari 1945 di Birmingham, Inggris, ini adalah Direktur Centre for the Study of Contemporary Muslim Societies di University of Western Sydney dan Direktur The Committe on Religion at The City di University of New York. Ia juga tergabung sebagai peneliti pada the American Sociological researchAssosiation. Selain menulis dan mempublikasikan banyak karangan, Turner juga tercatat sebagai editor utama berbagai jurnal, seperti Body and Society,Citizenship Studies, Journal of Classical Sociology,British Journal of Sociology, European Journal ofSocial Theory, Cotemporary Islam, dan Journal ofHuman Right.

Abstract

Today, the life of the Indonesian people faces serious threats associated with the strength of social conflicts,bothvertically and horizontally. Indeed, the conflict seizes social, economical, political and cultural freedoms. Thisstudy used a qualitative approach by using interview, observation and documentation. Sources of Data were theRegional Office of MORA, KUB, FKUB, Kesbangpol Linmas, High Court, LKAAM and Bundo Kanduang.Data were analysed by descriptive and qualitative techniques. The results showed that in general the religiousconflicts in West Sumatra are not much surface. This is due to the high sense of tolerance and inter-religiousharmony in society. In the event of any religious conflicts and problems in the community, then all the relevantstakeholders such as Local Government, FKUB, Tungku Tigo Sajarangan and all devices, right down to forma special team and make consensus to resolve the conflict.

Abstract

This paper is in terms of the site, the pedigree and  the network of Tarekat Naqsabandiya Babusalam (TNB).The structure of this paper is divided based on focus assessment in the site, the pedigree and the network ofTNB. So far this study found that the site of TNB is located in Langkat, North Sumatra, which early also hada special relationship with local authority of Langkat, when Langkat was still be a kingdom, so the spread ofBNP in this area becomes more massive because it is supported by the power. Furthermore, TNB has a centralarea which called Babussalam, a village of Naqsybandiya. The pedigree of TNB is connected to SulaimanZuhdi, a murshid of Naqsybandiya who based in Jabal Abi Qubis and then through Zuhdi is connected withthe clergy of other tharekat until the Prophet Muhammad. The network of TNB in Indonesia include NorthSumatra, West Sumatra, Riau, Aceh and West Java, which also assume spreading to other areas. In overseas,TNB has a strong network in malay countries such as Malaysia Singapore to China, but to last state lost contact.

Abstract

This study focuses on tracking the dynamics of Indonesian conversations on moderate Islam thought. It attempts toanswer number of questions concerning with the base and background of moderate Islam in developing its ideologybetween fundamentalism and liberalism pattern, form and typology and the development of moderate Islam movementin Indonesia. For this objectives, this study examines the role of the moderate Islam institution in Indonesia. This studyshows that Muslim thinkers have made some of the greatest intellectual and theoretical contributions to the debatesover Islam and human rights, Islam and democracy, and Islam and women’s rights. This position is in line with thestate concerns. This means that Moderate Islam in Indonesia has provided the foundations of civil society that madethe transition to democracy possible whereas in the Middle East Islam has been seen as anathema to democratization.

Abstract

This study concentrates on a plurality society situates in the sub-district of South Padang, West Sumatra whereits people hold different religion, language, social statification and etnicity. Data is gathered from a variousrespondents who live in the area including heads of the subdistrict, civil servants, common people, religousleaders, aducators, and students. Interviews, observation and collecting documents are used in collecting datafrom the respondents. This study shows that the society has succesfully managed its plurality in gaining socialintegration and harmony. The finding also reveals that people widely acknowledge the nature of the pluralityin the society to which they are adhering to different religions; their aspirations are fairly represented in thepublic sphere; they received equal treatments from the local government in concerning with the matter of socialwalfare. However, it also shows that the minorities groups have not fully gained their right to have particularplace for ritual.
