Abstract

Language style is the way people manipulate others and control their interaction in bringing messages or ideas conveyed in word and tone of voice. The characteristics of language style are: selecting and choosing the linguistic forms appeared from a person or group of people. In conducting this research, the researcher uses documentation method in collecting the data and applied qualitative descriptive analysis in analyzing the types of language style. The data of this research is the sentence and phrase of the comments used by male commentators. The data is analyzed based on the theory of Language style that proposed by Joos. The results of this research are, the male commentators employed the types of language style in giving comments to the video. Language styles used by male commentators are Consultative style, Casual style, and Intimate style. However, Frozen style and Formal style are not used. Therefore, male commentators only used 3 language styles and female commentators used four language styles. Those types of language style are realized with different realization. Those types of language style are realized in these comments because that is the standard in giving a comment and the male commentators applied the types of language style in order to give the comment by using complex sentence and well structured, to do a semiformal communication which words are chosen with care, to give a comment such among friends with the informal situation, and to give a comment by intimate family or friends. Abstract

  Exposure of environmental issues is essential to prevent mass environmental destructions; therefore, campaigns (posters) should be able to activate the viewers’ contemplation on such issues. Accordingly, this study focuses on the interactive meanings of semiotic resources in posters on environmental campaigns using a multimodal perspective. The study aims to find out the visual and verbal elements in environmental posters in selected Greenpeace poster campaigns. The research method used in this study was a descriptive qualitative method proposed by Miles and Huberman. The result of the research revealed that verbal and visual elements in Greenpeace poster included caption and images. Verbal elements were analyzed in the term of Transitivity analysis by using Halliday’s SFL. Visual elements were analyzed in three pattern of Kress Van Leuwen’s Grammar Visual Design. The verbal and visual elements created meaning by relating to each other and supported each other. Similar represented participants and processes were visually found as well as verbally participants and process. Mostly, the meaning of the Greenpeace poster invites the readers to take any action in protecting nature.   Keywords: Multimodal, verbal and visual elements, environmental awareness.

Abstract

  The research aim is to find the effectiveness out of the use of the GC Application on the students’ writing skills at grade X and grade XI of SMA Swasta Dwiwarna Medan. To carry out this research, the writers used quantitative medthod.Based on the research findings, the writers concluded thatit is very effective using the GC Application is than using the conventional teaching strategy in teaching writing skills toward the students who were from grade X and grade XI of SMA Swasta Swasta Dwiwarna Medan. From the data, it was known that 79.33 was the mean scores of students after using GC Application who were from the experimental class. Then it was known that 3,628 were the Standard Deviation after the use of the GC Application in the experimental class with 18 students. Meanwhile it was known that 63.72 were the mean scores after using conventional teaching strategy and 3,108 were the Standard Deviation from the control class with 15 students. Mean scores in the experimental class were increased 10.60 points. From the control class, the mean scores were increased 6.11 points. From the test of normality, the writers can conclude that 0.637 was the result in the post-test after the implementation of the GC Application in the experimental class and 0.234 was the result of normality test by using the conventional teaching strategy in the control class.   Keywords: The Effect, GC Application, Writing Skills, Narrative Text

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kompetensi profesional guru dalam menyusun rencana pelaksanaan pembelajaran melalui workshop di SMP Harapan 1 Medan, SMPS Nusa Penida dan SMPS Dharma Pancasila pada tahun pelajaran 2019/2020. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode penelitian tindakan sekolah melalui 2 siklus, dimana masing-masing siklus memiliki tahap: (1) Perencanaan, (2) Pelaksanaan dan Pengamatan, (3) Evaluasi dan (4) Refleksi. Subyek dalam penelitian ini adalah berjumlah 40 orang guru yang mengajar diSMP Harapan 1 Medan, SMPS Nusa Penida dan SMPS Dharma Pancasila.Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah menggunakan teknik observasi, kesioner,wawancara dan studi dokumentasi.Teknik analisa data yang digunakan di dalam penelitian ini adalah dengan menggunakan pehitungn persen jumlah guru yang sudah mampu menyusun RPP Kurikulum 2013 dan yang belum mampu menyusun RPP Kurikulum 2013. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan: (1). Terdapat peningkatan jumlah guru yang mampu menyusun rencana pelakanaan pembelajaran dari 30 orang guru,baru 21. (70,0%) guru yang mampu menyusun RPP Kurikulum 2013 pada siklus I kemudian meningkat pada siklus II menjadi 26 (86,67%) guru yang sudah mampu menyusun RPP Kurikulum 2013; (2) Terdapat penurunan jumlah guru yang tidak mampu menyusun RPP kurikulum 2013, dari 30 orang guru,terdapat 9 (30,0%) guru belum mampu menyusun RPP Kurikulum 2013 pada siklus I kemudian pada siklus II terjadi penurunan jumlah guru yang belum mampu menyusun RPP Kurikulum 2013 menjadi 4 (13,33%) guru yang belum mampu menyusun RPP Kurikulum 2013 secara baik; (3) Kompetensi profesional guru dalam menyusun RPP Kurikulum 2013 dapat meningkat melalui workshop.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to examine the difficulties that student's face during the translation process, as well as the reasons why students have difficulty going to translate English recount text into Indonesian text. analyzing fifth, sixth and seventh grade students of Sempoa Sip Titikuning and SDN 064018 Years 2021 / 2022. The study employs a descriptive qualitative technique to describe the specifics of the students' difficulties and their process of trying to translate recount text into English to Indonesia. In order to know the result of the analysis carried out and to describe the difficulties encountered by the student’s, the researcher first reads the text, analyzes the text, writes and completes the students' translation assessment. Difficulty arranging words, loss of vocab, and comprehension of the text's translation.. Additionally, the highest proportion from the linguistic considerations is 70% of 20 students, while the highest percentage from the non-linguistic considerations 70% of 20 student’s. Which languagelinguistic considerations & non - linguistic considerations have the same result of high percentages. Abstract

This thesis entitled " all that is lost between us " by Winna Efendi aims to library research is analysis, to provide information from a book and understand three types also six function spoken codes switch from several dialogues at new personal circumstances. This research argues the switch spoken in this novel it is fun to analyze and understand because there are three codes and six contain functions in the dialogue of the novel. People sometimes switch codes in social domains and it is easy to explain the switch. Researchers used qualitative descriptive research methods. The result showed that there are three types of code tag switching, intra-sentential switching, and inter-sentential switching. The material in this novel have the two most widely used types of code-switching are tag switching 22 data and intra-sentential switching 10 data in the fundamental. Next, it is for functions are Quotations, Addressee Specifications, Interjections, Repetition, Messages Qualifications as well as Personalizations. there are two quantities that have the most a total quotation of 13 data and a personalization of 12 data. Abstract

This research is not only aimed to fulfill the final task but also to provide participation in the development of English language education in Indonesia. The method we use in this research is descriptive qualitative with data collected through face-to-face observations. The results showed that questionnaire media were very effective in enhancing students listening. The authors found that developing a student's thinking through enhancing listening skills using a pragmatic approach was very effective in increasing students' knowledge. Through this learning, several students who have been the target of this research, students feel that this learning is very simple and easy to understand, the way of learning is also interesting and simple. enhancing listening skills using pragmatic approach is very helpful to add and develop students' mindset

Abstract

Perkembangan serial web atau yang biasa dikenal web series mulai berkembang pada tahun 2012 yang dipopulerkan oleh aktor dan sutradara Dennis Adhiswara. Jurnal ini menganalisa sebuah web series berjudul Dunia Dalam Kita yang diproduksi oleh brand olahraga luar ruangan EIGER. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah menganalisis nilai moral dan nilai sosial yang terdapat dalam web series Dunia Dalam Kita. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode penelitian kualitatif analisis isi. Tahap-tahap yang dilaksanakan adalah menyaksikan web series Dunia Dalam Kita, mengelompokan, mengidentifikasi, menggambarkan dan menginterpretasikan data, menganalisis serta menyimpulkan hasil analisis nilai moral dan sosial pada web series Dunia Dalam Kita. Dari penelitian ini, peneliti mendapatkan hasil bahwa nilai-nilai moral yang terkandung dalam web series ini adalah nilai moral tanggung jawab, moral bersahabat, moral kerja keras, dan moral hati nurani.Semantara nilai-nilai sosial yang terkandung adalah nilai sosial pengabdian, kepedulian dan kasih sayang. Kata Kunci: web series, analisis, nilai moral, nilai sosial.

Abstract

This research deals with The impact of Brainstorming Technique towards the Reading Comprehension of SMA Swasta Gajah Mada Medan students. Brainscorming Technique was first developed by Alex. F. Osborn. Brainstorming Technique is a method of thinking up solution, finding ideas, and getting new concepts. In carrying out the research, Quantitative method was applied by the writer. Based on the findings from this research, applying Brainstorming Technique is more significant than aplying conventional teaching technique in teaching reading comprehension towards the students at grade X and Grade at SMA Swasta Gajah Mada Medan. According to the data, the mean scores of the students after taught by applying Brainstorming technique is 83.52. Standard deviation is 6,997after using Brainstorming Technique with 27 students. After using conventional teaching technique to 18 students in the control class, it was known that the mean scores are 71.11. Standard deviation is 5.102. Then it was known that the mean scores in the experimental class increased 19.63 points and the mean scores in the control class increased 12.22 points. From the calculation ot the t-test it can be seen that t-observed value was 5.38; t-test (5.38) is higher than t-table value (1,675) with p = 0.05 df = 43. This difference can indicate that Brainstorming Technique can significantly give effect on the students’ reading comprehension at SMA Swasta Gajah Mada Medan.
