Abstract

Design of low cost multiband antenna is presented. The antenna works in WLAN/WMAX band and has a very compact dimension of 2 cm x 2 cm, making it suitable for handheld devices. This small dimension is achieved since the antenna is loaded with the metamateria element. To miniaturize the antenna dimension further, modification on the left side of ground-plane is introduced, which is inspired by the self complementary antenna concept. Resonance at lower frequency is given by the single cell metamaterial loading on 2.36 – 2.45 frequency; at the middle frequency is given by the thin slot on 3.26 – 3.49 frequency; and at higher frequency is given by the main radiator on 5.3 – 6 GHz frequency. The antenna has omnidirectional pattern and moderate directivity of 2-3 dBi on those frequencies.

Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) caused by four virus serotypes is a disease with A. aegyti and A. albopictus mosquitoes as vectors. DHF is a recurrent and high burdened disease in Indonesia. The purpose of this study is to analyze the spreading of DHF risk in Central Jakarta based on environmental factors. The cases number data year 2000-2009 was obtained from Center of Infectious Disease Research, National Institute of Health in Research and Development. Survey was performed in 38 subdistricts using random and purposive methods. Risk indicators were used in environmental data collection. The results of this study showed similar cyclical pattern each year.  March until May had a high DHF incident, while November until January had a relatively low DHF incident. In general, Central Jakarta had a medium risk potential of DHF spreading. Spearman rank analysis on adjacent areas gave various values. Subdistricts of Senen and Kemayoran had a low correlation, while subdistricts of Johar Baru and Cempaka Putih had the highest correlation among other subdistricts showing that there were vector migrations between these two subdistricts. Finally, the data obtained should be useful for minimalizing the risk of DHF spreading especially by vector control management.

Abstract

Course scheduling problem is hard and time-consuming to solve which is commonly faced by academic administrator at least two times every year. This problem can be solved using search and optimization technique with many constraints. This problem has been well studied in the past, and still becomes favorite subject for researchers. We will briefly discuss the convergence difficulty in our initial work on this subject using a modified hill-climbing search technique[8].  In this paper, an evolutionary algorithm is applied to solve the course scheduling problem and studying mutation techniques involved in the algorithm.

Abstract

Tofu industry produce organic waste in the form of liquid and solid. But, most of the industry cast away its waste to the surroundings directly without any processes before and contaminate the environment. One way out to solve this problem is by functionalizing the liquid waste as growth media of Spirulina platensis. In this research, exemic culture method with independent microalgae is used. Based on the result of the research, the optimal  growth of Spirulina platensis  if  cultured in 10% concentration of liquid waste with 4:6 comparison (400 ml Spirulina platensis : 600 ml tofu liquid waste). It is indicated by green color intensity of Spirulina platensis.

Abstract

Interactive Voice Response (IVR) is an automated telephony system that interacts with callers, gathers information and routes calls to the appropriate recipient. An IVR system (IVRS) accepts a combination of voice telephone input and touch-tone keypad selection and provides appropriate responses in the form of voice, fax, callback, e-mail and perhaps other media.  In recent years, many enterprises use IVR as their customer service media. Some problems arise as user problems, that is user have to remembering the too many choices; user does’nt achieve what  they want (did not find the right choices); and the worst is tiring finding choices yet they have not find the human operator. This paper will observe the effect of message structuring for IVR customer satisfication. Human information processing (especially audio-based information) theory as well as menu organizing theory will be used as analysis fundamentals. Questionnaire will be distributed to IVR users to grab the real user experience.

Abstract

Escherichia coli (E. coli) is bacteria that usually be an indicator of faecal contamination in the beverages test. This study was conducted to determine the level of hygiene or the purity of ice that is consumed by people in the surrounding of University of Al Azhar Indonesia (UAI) and Senayan, South Jakarta. In this study, E. Coli serves as an indicator. Performed several laboratory tests with the test sample contained ice in sampling three points from UAI food court, street vendors around the UAI, and fast food restaurants in the area of Senayan. Totally we have 24 samples whereas 5 samples from the food court UAI, 12 samples from vendors around the UAI, and 7 samples from fast-food restaurants in the area the Senayan. We culture bacteria samples on MacConkey media orders, then the bacteria identified by macroscopic morphology and microscopy to determine the presenc of E. coli. From this study, most samples contain E. coli, with the highest percentage found from street vendors around the UAI (98%), then from the food court UAI (87.20%), and the lowest (18.40%) came from fast food restaurants in the area the Senayan.

Abstract

The objective of this survey is to identify types of water conservation methods applied by the local government and the society at the Bekasi Jaya District (Kelurahan Bekasi Jaya), of the East Bekasi Region. Surveys were conducted at nine groups of households  (Rukun Wilayah) that had history of flood during the rainy season and/or drought during the dry season. Questionnaires were used to collect information from 214 respondents.  Additional data were collected through  in-depth interviews with local authorities and few residents who were familiar with the water conservation activities in the region. This survey revealed that there is no proper conservation method applied in all studied areas. Lack of conservation efforts include both minimum activity of extension by the local authority on the important of water conservation, as well as applied conservation programs in the field.  Only three households have some kind of water conservation method in place i.e. by making water collecting wells and ponds. However, these wells and ponds were not structurally up to the standard and need much improvement.  As much as 46% of the respondents had flood experience. We identified several contributing factors to these water issue, among others : 1) High rate of population growth in this area; 2) Lack of water absorption areas (vegetative-covered areas); 3) River shallowness due to household wastes that were thrown into the river; and 4) The presence of building around the river banks. Active role of government to conserve water in this region and to develop this area with the principle of sustainable is absolutely required as should be done as soon as possible.
