Abstract

DEMNAS : NATIONAL DIGITAL ELEVATION MODEL FOR COASTAL APPLICATION. DEM is a digital data which contain information about elevation. In Indonesia, DEM can be generated from elevation points or contours in RBI (Rupabumi Indonesia). DEM can be performed to research of coastal application i.e. inundation or tsunami. DEM can help to analyze vulnerability or evacuation zone for coastal hazards. DEMNAS is one product of BIG (Geospatial Information Agency) which consist of elevation data from remote sensing images. DEMNAS data has not been widely used and is still being developed but DEMNAS has an advantage of spatial resolution. DEMNAS has spatial resolution 0.27 arc-second, which is bigger than the spatial resolution of global DEM.

Abstract

THE ECONOMICALLY IMPORTANT CRABS IN INDONESIA: Indonesia have many marine resources, one of it is crab. The worldwide have many spesies of crabs and the Indo-malaysia have approximatly 1000 spesies of crabs. During a few last years, the amount of crabs demand have increased. Portunidae is become one of the crabs which have important economic value in Indonesia. However, relying the production on natural capture gives on effect the number of crab populations has decreased. This paper discuss about charasteristios of crab especially Portunus pelagicus (Family : Portunidae) which have benefit economically value and should have managed wisely to become sustainable resources.

Abstract

DEVELOPMENT OF MUD CRAB HATCHING METHODS. Indonesia is one of the mud crab exporters. The demand of mud crab products is high, but these products are still dominated by natural catches. Although there are many cultivation efforts, the seeds are still using the catch from nature, which may lead to an unsustainable business. In order to maintain the existing mud crab cultivation business, it is necessary to undertake mass production of crab seeds in an artificial environment, such as in the hatchery or in the laboratory. The research of mud crab larvae maintenance has been carried out in Indonesia since the last four decades, but the results have not been able to produce crab seeds in a mass scale. Therefore, the efforts of hatching crabs in hatcheries must continue for improvement, with techniques and methods should be developed to support sustainable crab enlargement cultivation.

Abstract

KNOWING MACROALGAE Turbinaria AND THEIR USAGES. Turbinaria is a member of brown macroalgae that can be found in almost all Indonesian waters. Turbinaria is often regarded as Sargassum because they have a similar morphology and both belong to the Family Sargassaceae. There are 35 species of Turbinaria in the world and 11 of which can be found in Indonesia. Turbinaria conoides, T. decurrens and T. ornata are the most common ones in Indonesian waters. Turbinaria grows on rocky intertidal coastlines, tidepools and reef flats. The life cycle of Turbinaria occurs through alternations between sexual and asexual. Their biphasic life cycle contains gametophytes and sprorophytes. In their sexual reproduction, sporophytes resulted from the germination of zygotes formed by fusion (fertilization) of male and female gametes. Asexual spores develop from both sporophytes and gametophytes. Turbinaria was commonly used as a source of alginate, fucoidan and other bioactive polysaccharides (antioxidant, anticancer, antibacterial, anticoagulant, antiploriferative and antivirus activities).

Abstract

POTENCY OF MARINE BACTERIA FOR BIOREMEDIATION. Marine bacteria have a high abundance on variation as well as the qenes, so it can be used in variousaspects, including the prevention of marine pollution through bioremediation. High genetic variations provide a source of marine bacteria which has decompose-various substances capability. Various studies have been conducted to determine the potential of marine bacteria in degrading pollutants, including degradation of hydrocarbons, PAH, plastic, PCB and removal of heavy metal. Recombination through the insertion of the marine bacteria’s gene coding enzyme has been also performed on indigenous actinomycetes on soil.

Abstract

KNOWING SHARKS LISTED IN APPENDIX II CITES. Sharks have become one of major concerns in fisheries management and marine conservation worldwide. Many members of this group are threatened to extinction due to extensive exploitation since few decades ago. Several species of sharks are now listed in the CITES appendices, which controls the international trade for endangered species. Most of them are relatively easy to identify in the field, especially if their fins are still attached. However, few species may difficult to identify correctly due to the similar appearance to other non-CITES species and when the body is not complete anymore. This article aims to give better understanding on how to identify some shark CITES species in detail.
