Journal of Applied Science (JAPPS) is a collection of scientific articles relating to the field of applied science which includes engineering and design. This journal discusses the scientific development of engineering in the fields of civil engineering, mining engineering, metallurgical and material engineering, petroleum engineering, and engineering in other fields. In addition, it also contains scientific articles in the field of planning such as urban and regional planning and Architecture which is balanced with design in the fields of Product and Interior Design. In the process, this journal involves the reviewer with a minimum doctoral qualification from domestic and foreign universities affilitations. In addition, it also involves observers from industry and the government with appropriate qualifications in the field of review. JAPPS will be published twice a year, in February and August with different topics for each volume. In its future development, JAPPS will be published in two versions: Indonesian and English.

Abstract

Process industries such as the pulp and paper industri produce solid waste (sludge) which can actually be utilized, one of which is by turning it into biobriquettes. In this research, biobriquette will be made from sludge with a mixture of black liquor and coconut shell. In this research, the raw material ratio is used as the independent variable, while the fixed variable is the drying time of the biobriquette. This research used the value of calorific, moisture content and ash content as dependent variables. This biobriquette making uses 6 variations of composition with sludge as the dominant material. The calorific value, ash content and moisture content of this biobriquette will be compared with coal. The calorific value of biobriquette with a variation of 60% sludge- 5% black liquor- 35% coconut shell (variation F) had the highest calorific value, namely 4543 cal / g. This value of 4543 cal / g is higher than the standard according to Permen ESDM No.47 / 2006, where the standard in Permen ESDM No.47 / 2006 is 4400 cal / g. For moisture content, this F variation has the lowest water content, namely 54.59%. In the F variation also, the resulting biobriquette ash content was the lowest, namely 5.74%.

Abstract

The enormous number of Cawang-Cikarang toll road private vehicles users have caused congestion in Jakarta. To reduce congestion in Jakarta, suburban areas, such as Cikarang, commuters shall utilize Park and Ride (P&R) facilities than use private vehicle to Jakarta. This study is important to give the commuters information of P&R in Cikarang, so they can make an option of their trip. P&R facility has a main function as a hub to change from private vehicle to public transportation. Observation as well as questionnaire were used to reveal findings for this study, the data results are analyzed with descriptive statistics. This study revealed that users of P&R facilities from Cikarang are generally commuters who have offices in urban areas and reside in suburban areas. The problem that occurs in Cikarang is that parking facilities in transit locations (stations / terminals / stops) have not been utilized optimally. This study aims to analyze the actual state and user satisfaction of P&R facility in Cikarang. The six locations include: (1) Cikarang Station; (2) Metland Telaga Murni Station; (3) Lemahabang Station; (4) Cikarang Terminal; (5) Capitol Stop; and (6) AO Citywalk Lippo Cikarang Bus Stop. Abstract

Window display is used to display products, provide information, attract visitors’ attention then persuade visitors to approach and enter the store. Colour composition is the most attractive design element on window display to visitors’ attention the most. This element is the easiest to identified by visitors. Monochromatic colour composition consists of one colour (hue) in various variants of its value and saturation. It is stated as an attractive and effective composition, thus it is widely used in window display spatial elements. This experiment investigated what kind of monochrome compositions that should be applied in window display that attract visitor the most. Window display schematic simulations with monochrome compositions are used as the stimulus of this research. The research subjects observed the simulation while filled out a set of online questionnaires. Results obtained from experiments prove that the monochrome schematic illustration which use a dark color (value 100) on the back wall and on the floor has the highest attractiveness to the visitors among other types of monochrome compositions.

Abstract

Hydroxyapatite has been widely used as bone graft materials in periodontics. However, hydroxyapatite is still considered costly, and many of them are imported. Hydroxyapatite manufacturers from natural sources could be an affordable alternative for periodontal regeneration therapy. Pugilina cochlidium and Babylonia spirata, L are the natural sources with high calcium carbonate. The two clamshells are easily found in Indonesia but their usage is still limited as hydroxyapatite materials. This study aims to synthesize the hydroxyapatite with sol-gel method from Pugilina cochlidium and Babylonia spirata, L as bone graft materials candidates.

Abstract

The SMK STIKES Rajawali Bandung project is a unique project because it has a steep terrain location that creates various risks, so a risk analysis is needed. The identification in this study was 32 risks. This research uses qualitative and quantitative methods with the stages of identifying possible risks, assessing risks, knowing the causes, and ways of dealing with dominant risks if they occur. The results of the study of the 32 risks consisted of 3 very high risks, 2 high risks, 23 medium risks and 4 low risks. The biggest risk comes from the external risk that can be detected, namely the risk of rain with a score of 20. Therefore, the risk of rain requires ideal treatment using a dewatering pump.

Abstract

Dry gas seal is an important component in the sealing system in centrifugal compressors. The gas seal supply that enters the dry gas seal must meet the specifications that have been determined based on API 692. However, on reality at the site dry gas seal damage often occurs, one of which is due to contamination from the gas seal supply that will enter the dry gas seal. The sulfur contamination in the corrosive process gas reduces the life and reliability of the dry gas seal. In addition, the selection of a gas conditioning unit model that is not quite right will result in the gas seal supply quality beyond the predetermined specifications. In this study, to obtain a good quality gas seal supply, development was carried out in the existing gas conditioning unit, upgrade seal gas strainer design using the duplex type and changing the type of strainer, changing the size of the gas filter seal from 0.3 micron to 0.1 micron and the use of coalescing. filter, repair seal gas heater and heat tracing installation on the seal gas piping, and finally replacement of seal gas booster components. The research method used is the study of literature from various references and previous studies, collecting data in the field and analyzing the findings using the PROACT method. From the analysis, it can be concluded that the development of the gas conditioning unit model in the gas seal system has a positive impact on the reliability of the dry gas seal in this centrifugal compressor.
