Journal of Applied Science (JAPPS) is a collection of scientific articles relating to the field of applied science which includes engineering and design. This journal discusses the scientific development of engineering in the fields of civil engineering, mining engineering, metallurgical and material engineering, petroleum engineering, and engineering in other fields. In addition, it also contains scientific articles in the field of planning such as urban and regional planning and Architecture which is balanced with design in the fields of Product and Interior Design. In the process, this journal involves the reviewer with a minimum doctoral qualification from domestic and foreign universities affilitations. In addition, it also involves observers from industry and the government with appropriate qualifications in the field of review. JAPPS will be published twice a year, in February and August with different topics for each volume. In its future development, JAPPS will be published in two versions: Indonesian and English.

Abstract

Cikapundung River is one of the important rivers that supply water to Bandung City. However, in the process of flowing, the water has received various kinds of pollutants. Poor water quality causes the physical and chemical parameters of the water to change. This study aims to determine the elemental content contained in river water. Water quality testing was conducted using inductively coupled plasma mass spectromertry (ICP-MS). Based on the analysis of the Piper Diagram, the type of water obtained is more dominant in the calcium-bicarbonate type (Ca - HCO3). This indicates that the water found is either shallow groundwater or spring water. The type of bicarbonate (HCO3) water indicated comes from the weathering of rock material and minerals close to the surface. The presence of calcium (Ca) contained in the groundwater may come from the presence of rocks containing carbonate minerals (CO3), besides that the water is indicated to have interacted with rocks containing silicate minerals that can affect the element Ca. Both diagrammatic approaches provide information about the evolutionary process that occurs in the Cikapundung River Sub-watershed. Thus, it is known that the water in the Cikapundung Sub-watershed has undergone ion exchange which causes the water quality to become unfit due to the presence of pollutant levels obtained from industrial and household waste disposal exceeding the standard class of River Water Quality Standard according to Government Regulation No. 22 of 2021 concerning Implementation of Environmental Protection and Management

Abstract

Tsunamis pose a significant threat to coastal areas, particularly in seismically active regions like Indonesia. The Tsunami Early Warning System (TEWS) plays a vital role in mitigating the impact of such disasters by providing timely and accurate warnings. This paper presents a comprehensive survey of TEWS developments, focusing on seismic parameter-based methods and machine learning approaches. The study reviews current methodologies, highlights their strengths and limitations, and identifies research opportunities for improving TEWS performance. The survey methodology involves collecting literature from leading databases such as IEEE Xplore, Springer, and Scopus, using keywords related to tsunami detection and warning systems. The selected articles were analyzed based on detection methods, seismic parameters, and system performance in terms of accuracy, computational efficiency, and handling imbalanced data. Key findings include the high accuracy of simulation-based systems like InaTEWS for predefined scenarios but their limitations in unexpected cases. Machine learning methods offer significant potential to address these gaps, but challenges remain regarding real-time processing and imbalanced data handling. Future research directions include developing time-efficient machine learning models for near-field tsunami detection, optimizing algorithms for imbalanced data, and integrating seismic with non-seismic data to enhance prediction accuracy. This paper provides insights for researchers and practitioners aiming to advance TEWS technology, contributing to more effective disaster mitigation strategies.

Abstract

Plastered bamboo is a traditional construction method that has been around for a long time. However, its application is not yet widely known by the public. In the problem of providing low-cost housing, plastered bamboo can be one of the solution to overcome this problem. The purpose of this study was to compare the construction costs of plastered bamboo houses with conventional houses. Data collection methods were through observation and literature review. The results of the study showed that plastered bamboo houses have the potential to be developed as an alternative to providing houses for low-income communities

Abstract

The structural planning of the Muhammadiyah Islamic Boarding School (MBS) campus is part of efforts to develop safe, comfortable, and sustainable educational facilities. This community service activity aims to design building structures that meet the school's technical standards and functional needs. The methods used in this project include site surveys, soil condition analysis, structural modeling, and consultation with relevant stakeholders. The planning results include selecting the optimal structural system based on load analysis and soil-bearing capacity. The building structure uses an appropriate foundation system, a reinforced concrete framework for ultimate strength, and an efficient roof system to support thermal comfort. Structural analysis was carried out using ETABS software to ensure stability and resistance to dead loads, live loads, earthquake loads, and wind loads. The conclusion of this project shows that the structural planning in the form of upper and lower structure design drawings (Foundations) of the Muhammadiyah Islamic Boarding School campus has met safety standards, cost efficiency, and sustainability principles. This building is a reinforced concrete structure with concrete quality fc' 25 MPa referring to SNI 2847-2019, the structural system used is the Special Moment Resisting Frame System (SRPMK). This is expected to be a solid foundation in the construction stage and contribute to improving the quality of education in the school environment

Abstract

North Cikarang District, as a Central Bussines District, has several public facilities such as train stations, traditional markets, shops, and shopping centers located on Jalan Yos Sudarso Cikarang Utara. Roadside obstacles are often related to social and economic activities, namely parking on the road body due to shops that do not provide parking spaces, public transportation facilities that drop off passengers in any place, and traffic of people to cross, which causes the road capacity to decrease. It has resulted in the Yos Sudarso Road section, which has a geometric design of a 1-lane 2-way road, becoming stagnant and causing congestion during peak hours. Congestion that occurs results in an increase in vehicle operating costs so that it can cause losses that road users in the area will receive. This study aims to determine the losses of BOK experienced by motorists on Jalan Yos Sudarso due to side obstacles and loss of time value with side obstacles. The method used in this study is quantitative data collection, which is done through surveys, field observations, and literature studies. The variables used in this study were road capacity, vehicle volume, vehicle speed, and operational vehicle costs. Data analysis techniques are used through surveys, field observations, and data evaluation. The results showed that 1) the volume of vehicles obtained during peak hours on Wednesday, 27 October 2022, occurred at 07.00-08.00 WIB with the number of vehicles of 1646 pcu/hour, 2) side obstacles that occurred on Jalan Yos Sudarso caused a decrease in road capacity from 3473 pcu/hour to 2152 pcu/hour, and 3) the value of vehicle operating cost losses (BOK) and time values due to side obstacles on Jl. Yos Sudarso amounted to Rp. 5,643,654.67/veh/hour/200m and Rp. 2,059,933,954.92/veh/year/200m
