Abstract

The purpose of this study is to measure whether self-esteem, loneliness, and internet addiction affect academic achievement in college students empirically. This study involved 369 students who actively used the internet in the Greater Jakarta area and several other cities in Indonesia. Structural equation modeling (SEM) is used to analyze the theoretical model. The findings of this research show that the empirical model is fit with data, and self-esteem, loneliness, and internet addiction affect academic achievement in college students simultinously. However, the influence partially shows that self-esteem has no direct influence on academic achievement, but it has strong negative influence to loneliness and internet addiction. Loneliness has negative influence to academic achievement. The other result also show that internet addiction has positive effect to academic achievement.

Abstract

Persons with disabilities are people with special characteristics that have an impact on limitations in activities, so special treatment is needed to optimize their potential. Persons with disabilities' self-acceptance is influenced by the limitations they face. The limitations experienced make persons with disabilities feel stressed, low in self-esteem, and lonely. The purpose of this research is to determine the dynamics of self-acceptance in people with disabilities, particularly those with post-natal physical disabilities. This study used a literature review method with a narrative review type. The results of this study explain that there are four phases that persons with disabilities go through in the process of accepting themselves: rejection, conflict, adjustment, and acceptance.

Abstract

Abstract. Enormous contribution of the agricultural sector does not necessarily improve the welfare level among farmers. Previous research shows that farmers are dependent on middlemen, therefore they tend to give in and agree with the price decided by middlemen. However, there are different conditions in Nganjuk. The purpose of this research is to identify actors involved, strengths and power, as well as social exchange between shallot farmers who have bargaining power and middlemen in Nganjuk regency, East Java. This study uses a qualitative approach with thematic analysis, utilizing interview and photo documents as a form of collecting the data. Participants involved in this study were 2 farmers, 3 middlemen, and village headman. Result shows that farmers’ bargaining power is shown by ownership of resources, alternative sales, and ability to negotiate prices. Other than shallots and money being the main material exchange resources, trust as part of the process is a non-material exchange resource. This study found that driving factors between farmer-middleman exchange relations were trust, a sense of kinship, profit, and professionalism between actors involved. Whereas risk factors involve breach of agreement. Another interesting finding is the existence of a key actor, namely the village head as a mediating figure. Limitations in this research include language barriers, lack of in-depth probing due to the farmers and middlemen having double jobs, and limited access to brokers as the relation medium.

Abstract

Abstract. Indonesian higher education has been criticized for falling short of international norms of excellence. Indeed many factors contribute to this phenomenon, and researchers need to understand the underlying mechanism, especially the interaction between the main actors: the lecturers and the students. Therefore, using a qualitative method through observation during class sessions and interviews in one master's program conducted online, this research aims to understand the perspective of both parties, particularly their motivation, and how it is reflected in their behavior. Drawing from Mark Tennent's (2019) interpretation of the andragogy model of adult learning in humanistic psychology, this research found that the dominant student motivation is to follow directions from those who are more powerful instead of pursuing self-actualization. Meanwhile, the lecturer follows the characteristics of the facilitator in the learning process, as stated by Carl Rogers, namely: unconditional positive regard; realness and genuineness; prizing, acceptance, and trust.
