Abstract

Charcoal briquette is a smokeless fuel which is a type of solid fuel substances made flying low enough so that the smoke generated in the utilization of health care will not interfere with the user's own briquettes. In this study, charcoal briquettes made from bintaro waste fruit and betung bamboo using amylum adhesives. This study aims to obtain briquettes bioarang with the best quality by varying the carbonization temperature and composition of raw materials. The method used in this study is experiments or experimental methods. Variation of carbonization temperature used was 350 0C, 400 0C and 450 0C, with a ratio of raw material composition of bintaro fruit and betung bamboo 50%: 50%, 40%: 60%, and 30%: 70%. This briquette-making through several stages of the preparation of raw materials, the initial analysis, the making of briquette and final analysis. The results from this study that the composition of raw materials bintaro fruit and betung bamboo carbonization temperature of 400 C with Inherent Moisture valuesobtained for 2.13%, 2:66% ash, volatile matter content of 25.33%, 72% fixed carbon and calorific value 6775.6 cal / g. The authors conclude that the composition of the raw material of bintaro fruit and betung bamboo 50%: 50% obtained an optimum charcoal briquettes. In this case I suggest to do some research of fruit bintaro and coal in order to obtain a higher calorific value, so that the resulting charcoal briquettes have the best quality.

Abstract

Dependence on fuel oil brought Indonesia to the energy crisis seriously. One way to reduce dependence on fossil energy is to develop alternative renewable energy sources. Developing the alternative energy from saw dust waste and coffee skin has a great potential to be used as raw material for the manufacture of briquettes. The purpose of the study was to determine the effects of temperature and composition of briquettes from saw dust waste and coffee skin. Variations in temperature there are 250oC, 300oC, 350oC, 400oC and 450oC for 2 hours with the composition ratio between coffee skin and saw dust waste 75: 25 and 25: 75 as well as the addition of adhesive materials as much as 8%. Dependent variable, there are inherent moisture , ash content, volatile matter, fixed carbon and calorific value. Briquette-shaped cylinder with a height of 2.5 cm and a diameter of 7.5 cm. Based on the research results obtained briquettes in temperature 450oC coffee skin composition and saw dust waste (25:75) with a inherent moisture of 0.87%, 7.84% ash content, volatile matter 23.96%, 67.33% fixed carbon and a calorificvalue of 5800.16 cal /g.

Abstract

The research aims to determine the effectiveness of active carbon from sugarcane bagasse with activator substance of  HCl  in  decrease  the  value  of  COD  and  TSS  and  than  in    increase  the  value  of  DO  and  pH  in  tofu  liquid waste. The optimum condition of decrease the value of COD and TSS and also increase the value of DO and PH in tofu liquid waste is circulation time at 12 hours of fixed bed reaktor. The results of  the research show that decrease the value of COD from 123,7 mg/L to 41,6 mg/L or 66,37 %,  decrease the value of TSS from 335 mg/L to 103,8 mg/L or 69,1 %,  increase the value of  DO from 1,86 mg/L to 7,6 mg/L or 75,52 % and increase the value of pH from 3,53 to 4,66.

Abstract

Based on Clark type electrode, chlorine electrode has been made for measuring chlorine electrometrically. The electrode consisted of platinum working electrode, silver/silver chloride reference electrode, potassium chloride as an electrolyte, polyethylene polymer (32 μm thick) membrane and the electrode body was made of polyester resin. The result of the study indicated that the sensor was suitable for determining the dissolved chlorine at optimum operating characteristics with an applied voltage of 0.9 Volt, using saturated solution of potassium chloride as an electrolyte. The steady state reduction current was achieved after 12 seconds. The standard calibration curve (concentration dissolved chlorine-reduction current) showed a linier relationship in the range of 2.9 – 30 ppm. The analytical performance characteristic of the probe indicated: least square fitting test y = 0.4214x - 0.3714, sensitivity 0.3714 ppm/μA and detection limit 2.9 ppm.
