Abstract

Social deixis usually can be found in movies. So that, this study purposed to describe the kinds of social deixis and aims of social deixis in the movie entitled Beauty and the Beast. The writers analyzed this study by using theory of Stephen C. Levinson. In analyzing the data of this study, the writers used qualitative method. The findings of the analysis revealed that there were 34 utterances that containing social deixis found in the movie Beauty and the Beast. The writers found 68 styles of social deixis in the movie Beauty and the Beast, 34 styles of social deixis were categorized as kinds of social deixis and 34 styles of social deixis were also categorized as the aims of social deixis. The writers found two kinds of social deixis, they were; 18 styles of social deixis in relational social deixis and 16 styles of social deixis in absolute social deixis. Besides the writers found, three aims of social deixis, they were; 9 styles of social deixis have categorized as to express politeness and respect, 18 styles of social deixis had categorized as to express intimacy, and 7 styles of social deixis had categorized as to identify authority.

Abstract

This research was about Marxism in Jack the Giant Slayer on social class and kind of Marxism. Marxism was an important thing in the society because Marxism wanted to remove social classes. Thus, this research was to describe how social classes could influence someone’s roles in the society. This research used descriptive qualitative method. The research was conducted by accommodating two theories: kinds of Marxism by Tyson (2006) and social class by Barry (2002). Tyson’s theory (2006) classifies Marxism into classism, patriotism, religion, rugged individualism, and consumerism. On the other hand, Barry’s theory (2002) classifies social class into the upper class, the middle class, and the lower class. The findings of the analysis reveal that there were ten data in Jack the Giant Slayer. The researcher found ten forms of Marxism, There were one form of classism, twelve forms of rugged individualism, and one form of consumerism. The most of kind dominant Marxism was classism. Besides, the researcher found three forms of social class, they were the upper class, the middle class, and the lower class. There were four characters of the upper class, one character of the middle class, and two characters of the lower class. The dominant social class was the upper class, which appeared in four characters.

Abstract

Meaning concepts is always being an interesting topic in linguistics especially about antonymy. Antonymy is not only found in absolute term but also in other ones. This research then tried to discuss antonymy in Bahasa Indonesia particularly in military terms, time and taste terms. The method used was Relation by Contrast-Lexical Contrast (RC-LC). Furthermore, as the result it was found that antonymy had some variants such as: non binary antonymy, contrastive antonymy, and gradation antonymy.

Abstract

Self-deception was deceivers make themselves to believe something which they knew it was false, while hypocrisy was the practice of pretending to be different from what one really. Self-deception and hypocrisy were the core of this research in the filmBoss Baby. There were four research problems in this research; what were self-deception found in thefilmBoss Baby, what kinds of hypocrisy in the film Boss Baby, what were the factors of hypocrisy found in the film Boss Baby, and what were the revelation of main characters self-deception to raise his hypocrisy. The data in this research were in the form of utterances and situations that referred to self-deception and hypocrisy in Boss Baby. This research was done by analyzing the data qualitatively. There were some steps in analyzing the data; identifying, classifying, describing, and analyzing the data. The researchers also used theory of self-deception from Mele, theory of kinds of hypocrisy from Spiegel and theory factors of hypocrisy from Lonnie Lee Best. The findings of the analysis were eleven data found by the researchers; five self-deception, four kinds of hypocrisy (hypocrisy of pretense, hypocrisy of blame, hypocrisy inconsistency and hypocrisy of complacency), a factor of hypocrisy (carnal desires), and a datum of self-deceptionrevelation to raise hypocrisy,the boss baby actually wants a family not a position.

Abstract

This research analyzed metaphor translation in the novel of Angels and Demons with the purposes to analyzing the technique of translation and to know the quality of metaphor translation found in the novel Angels and Demons. The data were analyzed by using the theory of metaphor by Larson (1998), technique of translation used theory of Molina and Albir (2002) and quality of translation used Translation Quality Assessment theory by Nababan (2012). The analysis started by analyzing metaphorical expression, classifying the technique of translation and identifying the quality of translation based on the theory that was use for this research. The findings revealed that there were 119 metaphor expressions with 84 live metaphors and 35 dead metaphors. The metaphor translation used nine techniques of translation and the quality of metaphor translation was qualified by the assessment 2.90.
