Abstract

In this paper we present a new design of a photonic transmitter based on multi-layers substrate GaAs and using for generation of THz waves. The proposed circuit is composed from a photodetector (PD) “which converts the light to the electrical signal”, THz Antenna, low-pass filter and DC probe. Firstly we have optimized the THz antenna using an EM solver which is Momentum integrated in ADS “Advanced Design System”.Then we have optimized the low pass filter which plays the role of inductance that is an RF choke permiting to separate the RF signal from the DC one. Finally, we have associated the different components, add the DC probe and simulate the whole proposed system. The dimensions of the final circuit are 400.317x167.16 UM2 . The obtain results permit to validate the final circuit at THz and make it suitable for THz applications.

Abstract

Controlling electrical pumps on farms can be problematic, especially if there are a small number of people managing or working on huge areas of land and if the provision of electricity is not consistent. Therefore, further techniques for the management of plant irrigation on this type of land are being invented to make the process of irrigation easier. In this paper, a new intelligent device is designed and utilized to control the operation of irrigation pumps using a robust method of communication to transfer information at long distances, for the lowest cost, and the longest battery life. This technology is called LoRa (Long Range) communication, which is a low-power technology. The unit consists of two circuits: the first one is for switching the pumps ON and OFF, while the second one controls and monitoring the work of the pumps. Monitoring of the pumps can also be carried out through smart phones by measuring the voltage. The most important features of this new design are its intelligent control for long distances, cheap price, and a long operational life of more than five years. The goal of this paper is to help farmers by designing and manufacturing a remote-control system that switches irrigation pumps on and off using LoRa technologies.

Abstract

Learning Management System (LMS) is an online software that was hosted on a server and designed specifically to manage learners’ information, course registration, learning content, and assessment tool. Educational data mining is a way of evaluating and using methods for examining the unique and large dataset that come from educational field, and applying those in order to understand how students learn and the settings in which they learn. Many students use to miss some of the activities posted by their instructors, due to the short deadline, and they are not accessing the LMS regularly or every day. The purpose of this paper is to explore the way on how student access LMS and which day is the most frequent accessed. The findings show that, the total number of accessing LMS among 33 students is 16060, and the mean is 486.67, S16 recorded the highest number of accessing the LMS (965 access), while S24 as the least number of access (275). And the correlation between Tuesdays is significant, positive and strong correlation with Wednesdays (0.546), and positive, but weak with Thursdays (0.292), Fridays (0.244), Saturdays (0.334), and Sundays (0.291).

Abstract

The demand for underwater communication is growing at a faster pace since few decades. Maximizing the communication performance and building efficient network architecture for underwater communication is a challenging task. Due to the reduced bandwidth, high error rate, noise, propagation delay, water currents and increased cost in the network topology, the existing communication techniques are not feasible for underwater communication. Research in high speed underwater transmission technology has become a primary need in today’s world. By using underwater acoustic sensor network high transmission distance can be achieved but with lower data rates, high power consumption, larger delays and with higher cost. Underwater Optical Communication can be used to increase data rates and lower delays but it suffers from high attenuation due to which it cannot be used for data transfer over larger distances. Research in the area of hybrid sensor networks is a challenging task and has many open research challenges, which needs to be solved. In this paper we discuss the various architectures of underwater communication. A comparative study is made on different routing protocols and localization algorithms. The challenges faced by acoustic and optical communication are also discussed.

Abstract

By using image processing, the Automated parking management system (APMS) to recognize the license plate number for efficient management of vehicle parking and vehicle billing. It is an independent real-time system, reduces number of people involvement in parking areas. The main aim of this system is to automated payment collection. This (APMS) system extract and recognize license plate numbers from the vehicles, then that image is being processed and used to generate an electronic bill. Generally in the parking lots heavy labor work is needed. This system used to decrease the cost of the labor and also enhance the performance of the APMS. This system is composed of vehicles license plate number extraction, character segmentation and character recognition. A proper pre-processing is done before extracting the license plate and it also generates the entry time and exit time of the vehicle and finally generates the electronic bill.

Abstract

In the modern society, there is a rapid increase in the need for color psychotherapy for psychological stability and environmental adaption of children for whom the interests of the parents are lacking in the midst of their busy daily schedules. Accordingly, we need to assess the emotional state of children through their drawings, etc. In this thesis, identification is made on color harmony by utilizing information of single and mixed colors in the color image space. Moreover, system for extraction of color psychology from the drawings of children is developed. First, emotional database is established on the basis of color image space. Then, enormous color values are group by clustering the images through the use of K-Means clustering. Emotions are extracted through matching with the database and child’s color psychology is examined by using color distribution chart. Empirical researches on sensibilities that are currently in progress are being pursued largely from psychological and engineering perspectives. Sensibility being understood in the area of psychology can be deemed close to being emotions. Meanwhile, sensibility understood from the engineering perspective can be defined as highly advanced psychological experiences induced in the minds of human beings from perception or cognition by external physical stimulation. This thesis demonstrated the overall excellence through experiment.

Abstract

Airline ticket reservations can be completed via ticket counters or online. To reduce passenger data redundancy, Single Identity (SI) may be required to input passenger data. In Indonesia, SI is utilised in identity cards using Near Field Communication (NFC), called electronic Kartu Tanda Penduduk (e-KTP). However, the use of e-KTP is not optimal yet because it is still used in the same way as the conventional one. Data input using SI can be done by tapping the e-KTP on a NFC-enabled machine, and the user is required to select the passengers’ names. The process of data input may be simplified, resulting in a higher transaction speed. This research result demonstrated that there was a slight difference of the time required between the two methods for ticket reservations. The time efficiency using SI through ticket counters was 48%, while the online reservation using SI was 45%. Further research may implement the validation methods, such as using PIN or fingerprint.

Abstract

The high penetration of photovoltaic (PV) generation can cause many technical issues such as power quality and impact on the power system voltage stability. To improve voltage stability and reducing power loss in a power system with PV generators, appropriate planning of PV generators is considered by optimal placement of PV. Thus, an effective heuristic optimization technique such as the Wind Driven Optimization (WDO) technique is applied for determining optimal location of PV generators in a power system. For determining the optimal location of PV, the objective function considers maximizing the Improved Voltage Stability Index. The proposed method for optimal location of PV generators is implemented on the IEEE 118 and 30 bus transmission systems and the 69-radial distribution system. The optimization results show that integrating PV into the test systems improves voltage stability in the system. Comparing the performance of the WDO with the particle swarm optimization technique, it is shown that the WDO technique gives faster convergence.

Abstract

Photovoltaic thermal (PVT) studies show promising results from utilizing waste heat under the PV module. Heat removal is essentially the base of a PVT collector. The heat absorption from the back of the PV module used for different purposes. Solar energy being collected are mostly turned into heat and needs to be extracted to maintain PV’s efficiency. The PVT collector works similar to a flat plate solar collector, except that the short wavelengths are converted into electricity and the remaining wavelengths into useful heat. The heat collected is also at a lower magnitude than collected by solar thermal collectors. This study present the experimental investigation to improve the efficiency of PVT collector with and without Multiwalled Carbon Nanotube (MWCNT) nanofluid using spiral rectangular tube absorber as cooling. The electrical characteristic of PVT collector are represented by plotting power (P)-voltage (V), current (I)-voltage (V) curves. The results shows the power generated will increase with the increasing of solar radiation, and efficiency is slightly higher than the PVT collector without MWCNT. In addition, the highest maximum power increase is obtained when the 0.1 wt% MWCNT nanofluid is used as a coolant in the PVT collector.

Abstract

The present study studied structure analysis and sensor modules for explosion-proof thermal type flow sensors that can withstand the poor surroundings of vessel engines and power plants and can be installed in gas lines. The structure analysis evaluated the integrity of the structures of the explosion-proof thermal type flow sensors with finite element analysis, and with regard to the operation of the sensor modules, those sensor modules that can detect environments where vibrations occur or where there are flows of high pressure gases or fluids were researched and developed. The explosion-proof thermal type flow sensor module consists of a sensing part, an adjustment part, and an output part, and a noise prevention circuit was added to secure the stability of the measurement signals. The flow sensor developed with the present study is a sensor module capable of measuring flows in domestic gas engines and gas piping and it is presented as a reliable sensor module because it is strong against vibrations and has excellent explosion-proof performance.
