Abstract

Many traffic accidents are due to drowsy driving. However, to date, only a few studies have been conducted on the gazing properties related to drowsiness. This study was conducted with the objective of estimating the relationship between gazing properties and drowsiness in three facial expression evaluation (FEE) categories: alert (FEE = 0), lightly drowsy (FEE = 1−2), heavily drowsy (FEE = 3−4). Drowsiness was investigated based on these eye-gazing properties by analyzing the gazing signal utilizing an eye gaze tracker and FEE in a driving simulator environment. The results obtained indicate that gazing properties have significant differences among the three drowsiness conditions, with p < 0.001 in a Kruskal–Wallis test. Furthermore, the overall classification accuracy of the three drowsiness conditions based on gazing properties using a support vector machine was 76.3%. This indicates that our proposed gazing properties can be used to quantitatively assess drowsiness.

Abstract

Steering control is a critical design element in autonomous vehicle development since it will determine whether the vehicle can navigate safely or not. For the prototype of UiTM Autonomous Vehicle 0 (UiTM AV0), Vexta motor is used to control the steering whereas Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) signal is responsible to drive the motor. However, by using PWM signal it is difficult to converge to the desired steering angle and furthermore time taken for steering angle to converge is much longer. Thus, Proportional Integral Derivative (PID) has been introduced in this autonomous vehicle steering controller to improve the convergence of the steering. Meanwhile a microcontroller was used to control the Vexta Motor direction and perform the calculation of the desired steering angle. Simulation results showed PID controller showed better time taken and preicison of successful convergence of the desired steering angle compared to the PWM controller.  Analysis results showed that PID controller significantly reduce the overshooting of steering angle and significantly improve the time taken for convergence by up to 37 seconds faster than PWM controller in UiTM AV0.

Abstract

Sharp development progress of information technology has affected many aspects including data security. This is because classified data are often transferred between systems. In this case, data hiding exists to protect such data. Some methods which have been proposed, however, are not yet optimal concerning the amount of the secret and the quality of the resulted stego data. In this paper, we explore an audio file as the medium to carry the secret data which has been extracted into binary. Before the process begins, the cover is converted to binary and each sample’s bits are divided into two groups, one is used as the location of the embedded 4 bits whereas the second part locates the two bits that are randomly selected as the key. The experimental results have validated that the capacity is high and there is no much impact on the quality. Moreover, compared to the current LSB methods the security is exceedingly enhanced.

Abstract

Classification of breast cancer histopathological images plays a significant role in computer-aided diagnosis system. Features matrix was extracted in order to classify those images and they may contain outlier values adversely that affect the classification performance. Smoothing of features matrix has been proved to be an effective way to improve the classification result via eliminating of outlier values. In this paper, an adaptive penalized logistic regression is proposed, with the aim of smoothing features and provides high classification accuracy of histopathological images, by combining the penalized logistic regression with the smoothed features matrix. Experimental results based on a publicly recent breast cancer histopathological image datasets show that the proposed method significantly outperforms penalized logistic regression in terms of classification accuracy and area under the curve. Thus, the proposed method can be useful for histopathological images classification and other classification of diseases types using DNA gene expression data in the real clinical practice.

Abstract

This paper presents a basic approach to reduce an overall weight of selected PM motor. The approach is not based on normal sizing step by keeping the overall design in symmetry dimension, but by introducing semi-circle stator design. The investigation takes 12-slot/10-pole motor as a subject due to it symmetric winding disposition. Two designs are included, both having identical semi-circle stator but different in rotor configuration. Design 1 has a standard rotor design that equipped with 10-pole while Design 2 has a semi-circle rotor design following the stator design. This inherently result an even number of pole i.e. 5. From the investigation using 2D-Finite Element Analysis, an overall weight in PM motor can be theoretically reduced by having asymmetric design dimension. However, motor torque performance would deteriorate and unwanted noise may exist due to high cogging torque and high output torque ripple. A proper design procedure that includes parameter optimization and intelligent switching for optimum current excitation is required to restore the desired torque.

Abstract

The economic dispatch problem of power plays a very important role in the exploitation of electro-energy systems to judiciously distribute power generated by all plants. This paper proposes use of Crow Search Algorithm (CSA), for solving the economic dispatch of two electricity networks: a testing system 6 units and the morocco network the crow search algorithm (CSA) is a recently developed metaheuristic search algorithm inspired by the intelligent behavior of crows..The results obtained by CSA are compared with various results obtained in the literature. Simulation results shows that using CSA can lead to finding stable and adequate power generated that can fulfill the need of both the civil and industrial areas.

Abstract

Today, the interest of the community to send their children to religious-based schools that is Maahad Tahfiz Center (MTC)) whether managed by Government (State or Federal), private individuals, nonprofit organization (NGO) or certain organizations is very high. The demand that exceeds this offer has seen the growth of MTC rapidly. This situation provides many choices and advantages to parents. However, there is anxiety among parents to choose the MTC that fulfills the features that they want.  Hence modeling decision support system (DSS) in a MTC selection has been modeled using Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) provides the effective way for parents to select appropriate MTC. AHP is an effective tool for dealing with the complex decision making and aid the parents to set priorities and provide the best decision in selection MTC. Hopefully by using this model and future development of this model will help the parents make the best choices of MTC based on their preferences.

Abstract

A Wireless Sensor Network is a wirelessly configured Sensor Node with limited power such as a battery. There are many Wireless Sensor Network Protocols to increase energy efficiency, among which LEACH Protocol and SEP are typical. The LEACH Protocol is mainly used for homogeneous sensor networks with the same initial energy, and SEP is used for heterogeneous sensor networks with different initial energies. In the case of SEP-E, another heterogeneous sensor with different initial energy is added. SEP and SEP-E provide a higher probability of Cluster Head election for node types with more energy than Normal Nodes. Since the current residual energy of the node is not confirmed, even if the energy is low, the Cluster Head may be elected because of the node type. In this paper, considering the residual energy of a node when a Cluster Head is elected, we increase the probability of electing a Cluster Head with more residual energy. Cluster Head consumes a lot of energy. A node with a lot of residual energy is elected as a Cluster Head, so the network lifetime can be used for a long time.

Abstract

This paper deals with the design and achievement of a novel microstrip rectifier with high conversion efficiency and output voltage. Firstly, we have designed a rectifier based on HSMS2820 Schottky diodes by using a series topology to convert the electromagnetic energy into DC power. Then, a stepped-impedance low pass filter was implemented to filter the unwanted harmonics generated by the non-linear Schottky diode. Both of the structures have been simulated and fabricated on an FR4 substrate with dielectric permittivity constant 4.4, thickness of 1.6 mm and loss tangent of 0.025. Good performances were confirmed throughout the measurement results and an interesting output voltage was observed.
