Abstract

A single pole double throw (SPDT) discrete switch design using switchable substrate integrated waveguide (SIW) resonators is proposed in this paper. It was designed for the millimeter wave multiple input multiple output (MIMO) transceiver. An example application is for 5G communication in 26 GHz band. High isolation between transmitter and receiver (in the transceiver) is needed in SPDT switch design to minimize any high radio frequency (RF) power leakage in the receiver. Therefore, the use of switchable SIW resonators can achieve higher isolation if compared to the conventional series SPDT switch, where the isolation of the proposed SPDT is depend on the bandstop response of the SIW resonators. The switchable SIW resonators can be switched between allpass and bandstop responses to allow the operation between transmit and receive modes. As a result, the simulation and measurement showed that the proposed SPDT switch produced an isolation higher than 25 dB from 24.25 to 27.5 GHz compared to the conventional design.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to establish a simulation model to examine the performance and working efficiency of a solar cell system by using computational fluid dynamics (CFD). The proposed model consists of a water feed tube and an absorber plate, as well as a convection heat transfer system, the ansys fluent system simulation program was used. The electrical output of the panel and its efficiency have been investigated and the effect of changes in the intensity of solar radiation on the temperature of the liquid and the absorption plate on the performance of the system have been studied. A dynamic analysis of the thermal hybrid system was performed with a circulation pump. Calculations were performed using a detailed mathematical model. The analysis was performed in three cases, the first case when the system has no cooling, in the second case with constant flow, and in the third case when the pump was optimized. Finally, numerical results were compared with the practical reference results. Both results are in good agreement. The results obtained showed that the system with optimization case give a good improvement in efficiency with low reduction of the thermal efficiency compared to a constant flow.

Abstract

An internet of things (IoT) is an exclusive method, were its impact on the enactments of human life is very trendy. This research on library control system operates on the basis of IoT and optical character recognition (OCR) algorithm rules and its training. A closed-circuit television (CCTV) watched mechanism is created to control the book issuing and returning phenomenon via tag studying system in the library. In this proposed work text file is converted into an audio file. This audio file is being played and the contents of the book can be heard via the headset. This unique function of the OCR helps blind people. Now a days OCR widely focused in machine processes such as machine transformation, text to speech extraction and text data mining. It utilized in various area of research in artificial intelligence, computer vision and pattern recognition. Using OCR to scan the damaged book in the library converted into pdf format the book gets new life and sharing the contents to multiple readers. In this paper aims to implement IoT based library management system to maintaining books in digital format.

Abstract

Traffic accident is a global threat which causes health and economic casualties all around the world. Due to the expansion of transportation systems, congestion can lead to spike road accident. Every year thousands of people have died due to traffic accidents. Various technologies have been adopted by modern cities to minimize traffic accidents. Therefore, to ensure people’s safety, the concept of the smart city has been introduced. In a smart city, factors like road, light, and weather conditions are important to consider to predict traffic mishap. Several machine learning models have been implemented in the existing literature to determine and predict traffic collision. But the accuracy is not enough and there exist a lot of challenges in determining the accident. In this paper, an approach of particle swarm optimization with artificial neural network (PSO-ANN) has been proposed to determine traffic collision using the dataset of the transport department of United Kingdom. The performance of PSO-ANN outperforms the existing machine learning model. PSO-ANN model can be adopted in the transportation system to counter traffic accident issues. Random Forest, Naıve Bayes, Nearest Centroid, K-Nearest Neighbor classification have been used to compare with the proposed PSO-ANN model.

Abstract

Two types of first-order circuits are resistor-capacitor (RC) and resistorinductor (RL). This paper focuses on the RL circuit equation. The centroidalpolygon (CP) scheme will be tested using SCILAB 6.0 software. This new scheme (CP scheme) is addressed to improve the speed. For the first order circuit equation, the complexity is focused on the time complexity, which is speed of the time taken to complete the simulation in the electrical part. The CP scheme is compared with the previous studies, polygon (P) and harmonic-polygon (HP). The result shows that the CP scheme is less computational and an alternative to solve the first order circuit equation, and get the result quickly compared with the previous research.

Abstract

In this paper, we deal with morphology images that try to improve the use of images. On the one hand, the process is used to obtain the histogram of the image then converted it into a non-color image (gray scale). The next step is to perform the erosion, dilation, open and close operations on the images, how these methods have important effects, and how can be used on a variable number of images, and found the differences between them. These operations were applied on four different images, check images, four basic operations (dilation, erosion, open and close) for each image were performed. Then, retrieving process to the original state of the image (the colored copy) was applied. The results found that retrieving the original images is difficult, and there is the occurrence of some noises on the image when it was retrieved. Finally, conclusions of the work are presented.

Abstract

Trading strategies to maximize profits by tracking and responding to dynamic stock market variations is a complex task. This paper proposes to use a multilayer perceptron method (a part of artificial neural networks (ANNs)), that can be used to deploy deep reinforcement strategies to learn the process of predicting and analyzing the stock market products with the aim to maximize profit making. We trained a deep reinforcement agent using the four algorithms: proximal policy optimization (PPO), deep Q-learning (DQN), deep deterministic policy gradient (DDPG) method, and advantage actor critic (A2C). The proposed system, comprising these algorithms, is tested using real time stock data of two products: Dow Jones (DJIA-index), and Qualcomm (shares). The performance of the agent linked to the individual algorithms was evaluated, compared and analyzed using Sharpe ratio, Sortino ratio, Skew and Kurtosis, thus leading to the most effective algorithm being chosen. Based on the parameter values, the algorithm that maximizes profit making for the respective financial product was determined. We also extended the same approach to study and ascertain the predictive performance of the algorithms on trading under highly volatile scenario, such as the pandemic coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Abstract

Electric vehicles are becoming more demanding these days. In this project the possibility of using Ackerman steering with electric drive servomotor is explained. Scalability is the advantage of using this mechanism which can be adopted for four-wheel vehicle system as well. The objective of this project is to do design a system using Ackerman steering which determines the maximum and minimum angle of the turning of the wheels. It also avoids the front tire slippage and activates pure rolling. Ackermann steering geometry is a geometric arrangement of linkages in the steering of a car or other vehicle designed to solve the problem of wheels on the inside and outside of a turn needing to trace out circles of different radii. The geometrical solution to this is for all wheels to have their axles arranged as radii of circles with a common centre point. As the rear wheels are fixed, this centre point must be on a line extended from the rear axle. Intersecting the axes of the front wheels on this line as well requires that the inside front wheel be turned, when steering, through a greater angle than the outside wheel. The microcontroller used in this project is ATMega16 andlmax232 is used for the serial data transmission.

Abstract

Gamification is described as the art of changing human activity to a game-like environment to gain user engagement. Rimigs is a developed gamification system discussed in this research and was built based on Octalysis framework. This research aims to design and identify the impact of using a gamification system on students’ motivation and performance, especially in programming classes. Through Rimigs, students’ engagement and performance can be enhanced by freely choosing tasks or quests according to the rank points, completing these tasks or quests, getting experience points, getting rewards, avoiding punishment at certain times, and competing with others friends. The proposed research was done by using the iterative methodologies and consists of four phases, starting from i) literature review, which identifies the Octalysis’ core, ii) design, which identifies the game elements used in the system and designing the unified modeling language (UML) diagram of the system, iii) testing, which involve the user in the using of the system, and iv) implementation, which is the analysis step for the impact of Rimigs in students’ performance and engagement. This research finds that Rimigs as a gamification system can positively impact both students’ motivation and performance.

Abstract

In Malaysia, banana is a top fruit production which contribute to the economy growth in agriculture field. Hence, it is significant to have a quality production of banana and important to detect the plant diseases at the early stage. There are many types of banana leaf diseases such as Banana Mosaic, Black Sigatoka and Yellow Sigatoka. These three diseases are related to color changes at banana. This research paper is an experiment based and need to identify the best color feature extraction method to classify banana leaf diseases. Total of 48 banana leaf images that are used in this research paper. Four types of color feature extraction methods which are color histogram, color moment, hue, saturation, and value (HSV) histogram and color auto correlogram are experimented to determine the best method for banana leaf diseases classification. While for the classifiers, support vector machine (SVM) and k-Nearest neighbors (k-NN) are used to evaluate the performance and accuracy of each color feature extraction methods. There are also preliminary experiments to identify accurate parameters to use during classification for both classifiers. Our experimental result express that HSV histogram is the best method to classify banana leaf diseases with 83.33% of accuracy and SVM classifier perform better compared to k-NN.
