Abstract

Utilizing multiple views of an image is an important approach in digital photography, video editing, and medical image fusion applications. Image fusion (ImF) methods are used to improve an image's quality and remove noise from the image signal, resulting in a higher signal-to-noise ratio. A complete assessment of the literature on the different transform kinds, techniques, and rules utilized in ImF is presented in this paper. To assess the outcomes, a white flower image was fused using discrete wavelet transform (DWT) and discrete cosine transform (DCT) techniques. For validation of results, the red, green, blue (RGB) and intensity hue saturation (IHS) values of individual and fused images were evaluated. The results obtained from the fused images with the spatial IHS transform method give a remarkable performance. Furthermore, the results of the performance evaluation using DWT and DCT fusion techniques show that the same peak signal to noise ratio (PSNR) of 114.04 was achieved for both PSNR 1 and PSNR 2 for DCT, and different results were obtained for DWT. For signal to noise ratio (SNR), SNR 1 and SNR 2 achieved slightly similar values of 114.00 and 114.01 for DCT, while a SNR of 113.28 and 112.26 was achieved for SNR 1 and SNR 2 respectively.

Abstract

This paper addresses the comprehensive analysis of various energy storage technologies, i.e., electrochemical and non-electrochemical storage systems by considering their storage methods, environmental impact, operations, costs, and their importance and applications. These storage technologies will help to reduce the energy shortage. There has been a significant deployment of storage systems in power grids throughout the world. The characteristics of storage systems such as the ability to act both as generation and load, fast response time, and high ramp rate. Make them promising options for the system operators to reduce the peak demand, and facilitate renewable energy integration. Various new trends in energy depict the ways this generated energy could be stored and harnessed. With the recent integration of renewable energy, it is important to store the energy and it is combined to help the green energy demand. The integration of renewable energy into the power grid has increased reliability, efficiency, and stability. Adding the energy component will further enhance the capabilities of the grid. This paper also recommends an optimal storage technique from various available storage technologies.

Abstract

Penetration of renewable sources to the grid is always a problem for electrical engineers, apart from reliability and efficiency, cost optimization is also a big concern among them. Wind, solar and battery hybrid combinations (WSB-HPS) are also very common among hybrid systems, but this WSBHPS combines wind and solar energy power generation reduces the charge and discharge time of the battery. Therefore, this system improves the reliability of the power supply by fully utilizing the wind and solar power generation and improves the charging and discharging state of the battery and hence reduces the whole cost as the investment in battery is reduced. backtrack search algorithm (BSA) is the highly efficient and powerful algorithm to solve combinatorial optimization problems. In this paper an attempt is made to optimize the hybrid combination using BSA in the matrix laboratory (MATLAB) environment and comparable study is made using HOMER. A complete optimised data is generated for a particular area in Manipur and reduced cost is suggested.

Abstract

A real threat to the people of the world has appeared as a result of the spread of the Coronavirus disease of 2019 (COVID-19) disease. A lot of scientific and financial support has been made to devote vaccines capable of ending this epidemic. However, these vaccines have become a subject of debate between individuals, as some people tend to support taking vaccines and others rejecting them. This paper aims to create a framework model to classify the sentiment and opinions of individuals that published in Twitter regarding the COVID-19 vaccines. Identify those opinions can help public health institutions to know public opinions and direct their efforts towards promoting taking vaccinations. Two of the machines learning classification models which are the support vector machine (SVM) and naive Bayes (NB) classifier are applied here. Other pre-processing methods were applied as well to filter unstructured tweets.

Abstract

In modern very large scale integrated (VLSI) digital systems, power consumption has become a critical concern of VLSI designers. As size shrinks and density increases in chips, it will be a challenge to design high performance and low-power digital systems. Therefore, VLSI designers are trying to reduce power dissipation in these systems by using power optimization techniques. Different mathematical operations can be found in the architectures of most digital systems. The focus of this paper is division. In comparison to other basic computational operations, division requires more iterations, takes a long time, covers a large area, and consumes more power from the digital system. As a result, the system's design requires high speed and a low-power divider in order to improve its overall performance. This paper focuses on dynamic power dissipation. In order to determine which design consumes the lowest dynamic power, different system designs of digit-recurrence division algorithms, such as restoring division and non-restoring division are suggested. An innovative power-optimization technique, the very hardware descriptions language (VHDL) technique, is utilized to the suggested system designs. The VHDL technique achieved the higher optimization in dynamic power, at 93.66% for non-restoring division with internal-loop iteration, than traditional approaches.

Abstract

Most of the existing studies on energy harvesting (EH) cooperative relaying networks are conducted for the outdoor environments which are mainly characterized by Rayleigh fading channels. However, there are not as many studies that consider the indoor environments whereas the state-of-the-art internet of things (IoT) and smart city applications are built upon. Thus, in this paper, we analyze a namely hybrid time-power splitting relaying (HTPSR) protocol in a full-duplex (FD) decode-and-forward (DF) battery-energized relaying network in indoor scenarios modelled by the unpopular log-normal fading channels. Firstly, we formulate the analytical expression of the outage probability (OP) then the system throughput. Accordingly, we simulate the derived expressions with the Monte Carlo method. It is worth mentioning that in our work, the simulation and the theory agree well with each other. From the simulation results, we know how to compromise either the power splitting (PS) or the time splitting (TS) factors for optimizing the system performance.

Abstract

The low power wide area networks (LPWAN) is the new connectivity technology that is geared towards energy constrained internet of things (IoT) devices, is starting to become one of the drivers of the re-accelerating IoT market and has one goal: ensure the wide range distance while reducing the battery energy consumption. We focus in this paper on the evaluation of the uplink throughput of the long-range wide area networks (LoRaWAN) then we attempt optimize the throughput and power dissipation using low energy adaptive clustering hierarchy (LEACH) protocol. Therefore, we exploit a novel module developed in NS-3 simulator for obtaining the first measurements scenario, then the LEACH algorithm for the second optimization case. As result, the simulation analysis will help us to add a new LoRaWAN routing protocol feature.

Abstract

In the efficient design and functionality of complex systems, redundancy problems in systems play a key role. The consecutive-k-out-of-n:F structure, which has broad application in street light arrangements, vacuum systems in an accelerator, sliding window detection, relay stations for a communication system. Availability is one of the significant measures for a maintained device because availability accounts for the repair capability. A very significant feature is the steady-state availability of a repairable device. For the repairable consecutive k-out-of-n:F system with independent and identically distributed components, the Bayesian point estimate (B.P.E) of steady-state availability under squared error loss function (SELF) and confidence interval are obtained.

Abstract

The series and shunt control scheme of unified power flow controller (UPFC) impacts the performance and stability of the power system during power swing. UPFC is the most versatile and voltage source converter device as it can control the real and reactive power of the transmission system simultaneously or selectively. When any system is subjected to any disturbance or fault, there are many challenges in damping power oscillation using conventional methods. This paper presents the neural network-based controller that replaces the proportional-integral (PI) controller to minimize the power oscillations. The performance of the artificial neural network (ANN) controller is evaluated on IEEE 9 bus system and compared with a conventional PI controller.

Abstract

In this paper, a simple human-machine interface allowing people with severe disabilities to control a motorized wheelchair using mouth and tongue gesture is presented. The development of the proposed system consists of three principal phases: the first phase is mouth detection which performed by using haar cascade to detect the face area and template matching to detect mouth and tongue gestures from the lower face region. The second phase is command extraction; it is carried by determining the mouth and tongue gesture commands according to the detected gesture, the time taken to execute the gestures, and the previous command which is stored in each frame. Finally, the gesture commands are sent to the wheelchair as instruction using the Bluetooth serial port. The hardware used for this project were; laptop with universal serial bus (USB) webcam as a vision-based control unit, Bluetooth module to receive instructions comes from the vision control unit, standard joystick used in case of emergency, joystick emulator which delivers to the control board signals similar to the signals that are usually generated by the standard joystick, and ultrasonic sensors to provide safe navigation. The experimental results showed the success of the proposed control system based on mouth and tongue gestures.
