Abstract

This paper presents the design and implementation of an IoT-based air density measurement system that integrates BMP180 and DHT22 sensors with an Arduino Uno microcontroller and ESP8266 Wi-Fi module. The system measures temperature, humidity, and atmospheric pressure to calculate air density in real-time, displaying the results on an LCD screen and transmitting the data to a smartphone app (Blynk) for remote monitoring. The goal of this research is to create a reliable, automated system capable of providing continuous air density measurements without the need for manual intervention. To evaluate the system’s accuracy, data were collected and compared with reference values from the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) for August 2023. The comparison revealed that the system produced air density measurements with an average error of less than 0.2%, demonstrating its high level of accuracy and reliability. The system is particularly suited for laboratory environments, where real-time and accurate air density measurements are essential. The use of IoT technology allows for remote data access and continuous monitoring, making the system convenient for various applications, including environmental monitoring and industrial settings where air density plays a crucial role. Future improvements could include sensor calibration enhancements and the integration of additional environmental parameters, such as CO2 levels or particulate matter, to broaden the system’s functionality. Overall, the IoT-based air density measurement system offers a cost-effective and scalable solution for real-time environmental data monitoring.

Abstract

Periodontal diseases, including gingivitis and periodontitis, are prevalent global oral health issues caused by bacterial infections that damage the tissues supporting teeth, potentially leading to tooth loss. Despite their high incidence, many individuals delay seeking treatment until the diseases reach advanced stages, exacerbating complications and systemic health risks. To address this issue, this research proposes an expert system for diagnosing periodontal diseases utilizing the Certainty Factor (CF) method. The CF method, a branch of artificial intelligence, handles uncertainty in medical diagnostics by combining expert knowledge with patient-reported symptoms to estimate the probability of specific diagnoses. Implemented as a web-based application using ASP.NET and C#, the system provides users with real-time diagnostic feedback and treatment recommendations. Tested with patient data from a dental clinic in Thailand, the system demonstrated a 98% accuracy rate in diagnosing gingivitis and periodontitis. This approach not only facilitates early diagnosis but also reduces the burden on healthcare systems, especially in areas with limited dental care access. The findings underscore the effectiveness of integrating AI-driven expert systems in enhancing public health outcomes and improving accessibility to dental care.

Abstract

This study presents the design and evaluation of an overcurrent relay system using Arduino Uno, ACS712 current sensors, and electromagnetic relays. Conducted at the University of Negros Occidental–Recoletos, Philippines, from March 2023, the research focuses on developing a relay with accurate trip times and reliable performance. The designed relay features multiple characteristics including Standard Inverse, Very Inverse, and Extremely Inverse, with time delays ranging from 20 ms to 100 ms and time multiplier settings from 0.1 to 0.23. Testing results showed that the Extremely Inverse characteristic achieved the fastest trip time of 0.11 seconds at 9.3 A, while the Normal Inverse characteristic had a trip time of 1.04 seconds at 1.7 A. The relay's error margins were well within the 5% tolerance limit set by IEC 60255 standards, with errors ranging from 0.027 to 0.028. Effective coordination was achieved by adjusting the Time Multiplier Setting (TMS) values to ensure fault isolation without disrupting other system components. The results confirm that the relay design is both accurate and reliable, suitable for practical implementation in electrical protection systems. Future work could involve integrating additional functionalities and testing under diverse environmental conditions.

Abstract

This paper examines the use of earth materials in sustainable road construction in South East, Nigeria. The study aims to determine factors associated with the use of earth materials, identify limiting factors, and examine strategies to improve their use. The study population comprised 60 engineers and craftsmen using local materials. The results show limitations in the use of earth materials in sustainable road works. The study recommends contracting firms to develop better storage facilities for earth materials to prevent damage and wastage. It also suggests incorporating earth materials into construction education curriculums to sensitize students to their potential benefits. The government should adopt a policy of adapting earth materials that require minimal capital and foreign exchange and utilizing available raw materials and skills in small-scale operations. The study's findings highlight the importance of sustainable road construction in Nigeria's socio-economic growth.
