Abstract

One of the important elements forming a city image is a path that creates connectedness and integration. Proof of Path quality research is by identifying paths, then correlating with the path city image theory and the physical quality theory of the city environment. The aim of this research is to identify the physical clarity of paths and the environment in the Kemasan road corridor, Kotagede, Yogyakarta. The research method uses an exploratory method with primary data collection techniques and secondary data which is then analyzed using an exploratory descriptive method which reports existing physical conditions related to paths and the physical quality of the environment and is correlated with related theories. The research findings show that the quality of the physical condition of the corridor influences the clarity of the path. The conclusion that has been obtained is that there are similar paths to the city image theory and the physical quality of the city environment at the research location where the path on Jalan Kemasan is clearly visible and strong. The physical quality of the city environment at the research location, namely the Kemasan road corridor, is clearly visible and influences the clarity of the path.

Abstract

Thermal comfort is a crucial aspect that affects the quality of life and productivity of urban building occupants. This research aims to evaluate the effectiveness of wind capture systems and water use in improving thermal comfort in urban buildings in Indonesia. The research combines qualitative and quantitative methods with a desk study approach and expert interviews to gain an in-depth understanding of the application of these wind catchers in the local context. The scope of the research includes analyzing the design of wind catchers and water-based cooling systems and their impact on air circulation and temperature reduction inside buildings. Literature studies were used to identify theories and best practices, while expert interviews were conducted to gain practical insights into their application. The results show that wind capture systems are effective in improving air circulation and reducing indoor temperature, especially when the building design and orientation are aligned with the dominant wind direction. In addition, the use of a water-based cooling system was shown to significantly reduce indoor temperatures through the evaporation process, although it requires regular maintenance to maintain efficiency and prevent the growth of microorganisms. The conclusion of this study confirms that the integration of wind capture systems and water-based cooling systems can create an effective sustainable solution to improve thermal comfort in Indonesian urban buildings. This integration not only supports occupant comfort, but also contributes to the reduction of energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions, in line with the development goals of green and sustainable buildings. Further research is recommended to develop design guidelines that are specific and customized to local climate conditions.

Abstract

This paper explores the role of community engagement in Islamic architecture, driven by the influence of Islamic cultural values and principles. The background highlights the significance of architectural design aligned with Islamic values, as well as the challenges posed by contemporary changes and inadequate recognition of community voices. The central research question guiding this study is: How can community engagement enhance Islamic architecture, reflecting Islamic cultural values while adapting to modern societal needs? The research objective is to investigate the challenges and opportunities of community engagement in Islamic architecture and propose strategies for its enhancement. Qualitative methods, including literature review and analysis, were employed to gather insights from various sources. The findings reveal that community engagement in Islamic architecture plays a pivotal role in maintaining the authenticity of Islamic cultural values. Challenges such as contradictory architectural models and lack of recognition of community figures are counterbalanced by opportunities such as promoting traditional practices, utilizing communal spaces, and involving community leaders. These findings emphasize the dynamic nature of Islamic architecture and its ability to adapt while preserving its rich heritage. The paper concludes that community engagement should remain central to Islamic architectural practices, ensuring that they continue to reflect the essence of Islamic societies amidst changing circumstances.

Abstract

Bulukumba Regency in South Sulawesi, known as "Butta Panrita Lopi," has utilized its coastal wealth, especially Merpati Beach, to develop tourism as one of the regional economic development strategies. The transformation of the Merpati Beach area from a slum area to a tourist destination and culinary center is part of the local government's strategic plan to improve MSMEs. This study aims to analyze the effect of changes in the Merpati Beach coastal area on sustainable tourism in Bulukumba Regency. This type of research is quantitative, namely the type of data in the form of numbers that can be processed using simple calculation methods. The sample in this study amounted to 88 samples, where sampling used a purposive sampling technique. This study uses primary data and secondary data obtained from observation, literature studies, documentation, interviews and questionnaires. The results of this study indicate that changes in the Merpati Beach coastal area have a significant impact on sustainable tourism in the form of economic, social and environmental aspects, such as business opportunities, job opportunities, changes in livelihoods, community income and environmental cleanliness. So the measurement method to see how strong the influence of variables on the influence of changes in coastal areas uses the Likert Scale approach. Furthermore, the results of the Chi-Square analysis/test will be matched with a scoring system on a Likert scale to determine the correlation of variables with their level of influence on community participation

Abstract

This study examines the evaluation of physical accessibility and supporting facilities for people with disabilities in two residential mosques in Sleman, Yogyakarta, Indonesia. The mosques in focus are Masjid Khusnul Khatimah and Masjid Jami' At-Taqwa, chosen to assess the extent of accessibility and availability of supporting facilities for people with disabilities. The research method used is qualitative descriptive, with data collection through observation and interviews with two mosque managers, two people with disabilities, and four general worshipers. The results show that mosques in Sleman still face challenges in terms of physical accessibility and supporting facilities for people with disabilities. However, there are also positive responses from mosque managers in improving accessibility and comfort for people with disabilities, such as providing facilities like ramps, handrails, adjustments to the height of stairs, and replacing slippery materials at entrance areas. Additionally, mosques also serve educational, social, and economic functions that need to be considered in evaluating physical accessibility. With this evaluation, residential mosques in Sleman are expected to become more inclusive and friendly for people with disabilities

Abstract

The application of reusing used materials as building materials in Indonesia is an effort to create environmentally friendly architecture. One example of using used materials is using zinc roofing material or plastic drink boxes. Used tin roofs may not be waste that damages the environment, because used tin roofs can be reused and recycled. Therefore, zinc roofing material is reused on buildings, making the building unique and environmentally friendly and helping to preserve the environment. The aim of this research is to identify and assess Cafe Kopi Break buildings that use used zinc roofing materials based on the Source and Material Cycle criteria of the Greenship Green Building Council Indonesia (GBCI). In this research, the research methodology used is a qualitative methodology in the form of field surveys and interviews. The analysis carried out refers to the Material Source and Cycle criteria according to Greenship GBCI which includes Foundational Refrigerants, Use of Used Buildings and Materials, Environmentally Friendly Materials, Use of Refrigerants without ODP, Prefabricated Materials, and Regional Materials. Based on the results of the analysis, it can be concluded that Cafe Kopi Break meets the total percentage of 79% of the assessment based on the Material Source and Cycle criteria in the GBCI Greenshp
