Abstract

Indonesia has thousand islands to be developed. The total number of islands is 17,508. The potential that can be developed on a small island are environment, energy, transportation, education, information, and so on. In this study, focus is development of Maratua island, located in the district of Berau in East Kalimantan Indonesia. The potential of the island is development of marine tourism. In this case, Sustainable Island Development initiatives (SIDI) implemented to address the above challenges through multidisciplinary research activities. This research is starting from the transport sector, health, education, energy and implementation of information technology. In this context, the development of digital education is very important. This research provides solutions to the educational development of practical and suitable for the Maratua Island. This research develops the role of information and communication technology for teaching and learning activities island communities, examines the role of technology as a supplement teaching and learning process. In addition, this research also aims to design a physical architecture and digital education system that can be implemented in small islands in Indonesia, designing a learning method to support the teaching and learning process, and educating stakeholders about the concept of digital education.

Abstract

Remotely located islands posses their own unique beauties and their common challenges. A case study on Maratua to enhance the quality of life is perceived to be achieved through the enhancement of the transport connectivity. The physical connectivity is manifested in the form of transport connectivity, entails the availability and the ease of obtaining a transport service to transfer goods and people. Deeper efforts to understand the mechanism of obtaining a transport service entails a primary actor directing both the ship and cargoes or passengers. This actor is the information connectivity. The paper elaborates promising efforts towards managing the information connectivity as a key for enhancing the transport service.

Abstract

Indonesia is a big country having big population, huge area and huge Exclusive Economic Zone area. For world harmonized growth, it is quite important to realize steady economy growth on Indonesia. Growth of Indonesia’s shipbuilding industry specifically is an important part to achieve Indonesia’s maritime vision, but by far as for the shipbuilding market, 3 major countries, China, South Korea and Japan have obtained almost 100% share, which means it is quite difficult to increase the world share. In the volatile marine world, fluctuating oil price often affect production capacity, and investment decision is hard to get with TOP management. Indonesia shipbuilding industry has big mission under severe management and environmental condition. We clarify basic dilemma / conflict inhibiting the growth of Indonesia shipbuilding industry under assumption of severe management environmental condition, with Theory of Constraints (TOC). The basic dilemmas are solved by erasing the reason of existence of opposite activity and the Indonesia shipbuilding ever-lasting development logic is proposed with the solution of basic dilemma.

Abstract

The aims of this study were to analyze the growth rate, production and biomass of Thalassia hemprichii leaves on different substrates in Suli coastal waters, Ambon Island. Data were collected at muddy substrate and sandy substrate by using tagging method. Tagging was applied weekly to 30 seagrass shoots for one month on each station. The growth rate of Thalassia hemprichii leaves ranged from 0.27±0.45 to 0.46±0.53 cmday-1. Production ranged from 5.08 to 8.64 gADWm-2day-1 and the biomass ranged from 245 to 541 gADWm-2.. The growth and production of T. hemprichii leaves is higher in sandy substrates than in muddy substrates.

Abstract

Subsea tie back systems are important parts of oil and gas production project. The decision to select a subsea tie-back configuration with the objective goal of lowest lifecycle cost can be configured in multiple ways based on the field specifications and operator’s approach to operation. This paper presents an Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method to determine economical levels of subsea tie-back wells configuration, based on lifecycle cost of subsea deepwater production systems with respect to wells number alternative. Field reservoir located in deepwater of eastern Indonesian with the depth of 1400 meters and field life 40 years is studied. From this study, it is identified that the most economical configuration in subsea production systems: satellite tie-back configuration to develop small field with 6 numbers of wells; for 12 numbers of wells, template subsea tie-back configuration is the best.

Abstract

Preservation of mangrove, like efforts on preservation of other natural ecosystem, is directly connected to sustainability. Eco-park as one model of mangrove eco-tourism is well accepted worldwide. Mangrove eco-park comprises of accommodations, edutainment centre, galleries, restaurants, etc. If these facilities are not properly planned and sustainability elements are not incorporated they will have negative effects to the preservation effort. The incorporation of sustainability elements in planning is already a standard practice by many district councils in developed countries like US and UK. Developers are to conform to the sustainability checklists failing which their project many not be approved. To be able to accommodate all type of development proposal the checklists are generic. Conformation to sustainability is required overall rather than the project systems and sub-systems. Therefore the checklists can be used for control purposes but with great limitations. System specific sustainability is required. This study identifies the generic model of a typical mangrove eco-park systems, sub and sub-sub systems and proposed their individual primary sustainability elements. A simplified model has been applied to the planning of transport system for Tanjong Pelepas Eco-Park (TPEP), a mangrove preservation effort by a Malaysian Port Authority. Thirty three eco-park sub-sub-systems have been prioritised and their primary sustainability elements identified. Parties responsible for the sustainability elements, either designer or TPEP operator, or both have been identified. The checklist is expandable and could be used to develop TPEP’s standard operating procedures.

Abstract

Marine and coastal tourism as one of the largest segments of the maritime economy sector, as well as the largest component of the tourism industry, often leads to controversy over environmental impact and compatibility with other human activities. The application of economic and tourism concepts that are oriented towards environmental conservation and natural resources is one option to overcome the problem. The Blue Economy concept offers an economic concept based on ecosystem principles, where the development will not only generate economic growth but also ensure ecological and social sustainability. In addition, the concept of ecotourism also offers a tourism activity that prioritizes aspects of nature conservation and improving the welfare of the community.

Abstract

Flettner rotor is a technology that utilizes the natural wind to help the oncoming vessel. The working principle of the flettner rotor corresponds to the theory of magnus effect, in which the force arises due to the difference in pressure between the two sides of the flettner rotor. In this research the simulated flettner rotor has a diameter of 3 meters with a height of 18 meters. Simulations were performed 16 times with variations performed on rotation of rotor (0, 100, 300, and 500 rpm) and wind speed (5, 10, 15, and 20 knots). Flettner rotor analysis is done by computational fluid dynamic method. CFD results state that the largest coefficient lift value is on the flettner rotor with rotation 500 rpm with wind speed 20 knots that is equal to 91,13. While in its use of 4000 DWT container vessel, flettner rotor is more work at the speed of vessel 10 knot with rotation speed of flettner rotor 500 rpm and wind speed 5 knot that is equal to 17,438% from force that must be expended to move ship.

Abstract

With growing ship size and demand for effective handling of container cargoes in recent years, automation has inevitably took place in almost all aspect of modern terminal operation. So far, automation has been led by the large terminals in Europe and North America and soon it will become a pressure for terminals in developing countries to go for automation. The drawbacks heavily rely on the initial investment cost and question arises with regard to effectiveness of automation for medium and small size container terminals. A visual environment that simulates container terminal operation is developed to facilitate investigation advantage and disadvantages of automated container terminal compared to conventional container terminal. A discrete event model for container handling process and agent-based model for path mover flow system is built and validated based on operating terminal in real world and visually simulated to serve the objective. The result of the computer simulation is an evaluation of performance metric for both terminal concepts under similar arrangements. In addition, visual simulation was able to notify the area where advantage and disadvantage of both concepts will take place during operation.

Abstract

Musi river is a wide and very long river used by local citizen for the fro. Water transportation remains the choice of local citizen though other infrastructure was built. Hence today, water transportation remains best choice because it has better time compared to landline.. This research aims to get simple solution which is quite good, effective, and quick when needed, then author made Knock Down River Ferry design. Knock Down River Ferry consists of certain size pontoon. Of course this ferry have advantages in moving and assembling. This pontoon can easly assembled in few day and various river width. In this Research there is problem identification and formulation about pontoon joints design of the ferry so force can distributed evenly when receive load.. The analysis process obtained the strength of the lock with the variety conditions of the ships, the largest stress lies on the lock number 10 on the ship moving conditions with a speed of 8 knots for 31.85 MPa with safety factor 8.635 and the lowest on the lock number 1 on the floating condition with stress for 0.91 MPa.
