Abstract

This study aims to determine the differences and the effect of the use of the Ecoliteracy and Adaptation (ELA) learning model on the science learning discipline of fifth-grade students at SD Negeri 1 Padokan. The background of this study is the low level of students’ learning discipline, which is indicated by the lack of focus, responsibility, and active participation in science learning. This research employed a quasi-experimental method with a non-equivalent pretest–posttest control group design. The population consisted of 46 fifth-grade students who were divided into two classes, namely the experimental class using the ELA learning model and the control class using direct instruction. The data collection techniques included observation, interviews, and a learning discipline questionnaire administered before and after the treatment. The data were analyzed using statistical tests to determine the differences and the effect of the ELA model on students’ learning discipline. The results showed that the average pretest score of the experimental class was 39.00 and increased to 45.52 in the posttest, while the control class had an average pretest score of 35.35 which increased to 38.91 in the posttest. The result of the Independent Sample t-test showed that the value of Sig. (2-tailed) was 0.000 < 0.05, indicating a significant difference between the experimental class and the control class. Therefore, it can be concluded that the Ecoliteracy and Adaptation (ELA) learning model is effective and has a positive effect in improving the science learning discipline of fifth-grade students at SD Negeri 1 Padokan. Abstract

The quality of learning in schools is strongly influenced by teachers’ professionalism, particularly pedagogical competence in planning, implementing, and evaluating the learning process. The improvement of teachers’ professionalism is closely related to the leadership role of the principal through the implementation of School-Based Management (SBM). This study aims to describe the effectiveness of the principal’s leadership role through managerial functions in SBM, which include planning, organizing, actuating, and controlling, in improving teachers’ professionalism at SD Negeri 1 Lambheu, Aceh Besar Regency. This study employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Data were collected through observation and interviews with the principal and teachers. Data analysis used the model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldana, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results show that: (1) the planning function is carried out in a participatory manner by involving teachers in preparing work programs and learning tools; (2) the organizing function is implemented through the division of tasks according to teachers’ competencies and the management of learning facilities; (3) the actuating function is conducted through motivation, guidance, and strengthening collaboration among teachers; and (4) the controlling function is carried out through classroom supervision and evaluation of teachers’ performance. The implementation of the principal’s managerial functions through SBM contributes to improving teachers’ pedagogical professionalism. In general, the findings indicate that the principal’s leadership, implemented through systematic and continuous managerial functions within the framework of School-Based Management, is effective in enhancing teachers’ professionalism.

Abstract

Indonesian language teaching in elementary schools is essential for optimizing students' language skills and academic achievement. However, observations implemented in grade four A at Ngebung Beran Elementary School indicate that Indonesian language learning achievement is low, reinforced by low learning achievement far below the Minimum Competency (KKM). By using the Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) learning model, this study aims to improve Indonesian language learning achievement. The Kemmis and McTaggart Classroom Action Research (CAR) model, applied in this study, is divided into two cycles: planning, action implementation, observation, and reflection. In the second semester of the 2024–2025 academic year, eighteen grade IV A students from Ngebung Beran Elementary School became the research subjects. A learning achievement evaluation test in the form of multiple-choice questions and essays was used to collect data, and the percentage of learning completion was analyzed descriptively by calculating the percentage of learning completion. The research findings show that learning achievement increased in each cycle. Learning completion only reached 38.9% in the pre-cycle phase. This figure increased to 50% in the first cycle and 77.7% in the second cycle, exceeding the established success indicator of 75%. Furthermore, there was a significant increase in both teacher and student participation. As a result, fourth-grade students at SDN Ngebung Beran demonstrated improved Indonesian language skills thanks to the implementation of the CIRC learning model.

Abstract

This research discusses loading and unloading activities, which are important in logistics operations in the maritime sector, including the transportation of bagged fertilizers. This study aims to analyze the factors causing delays in the loading and unloading of bagged fertilizers and efforts to address these delays in the loading and unloading activities on the KM. Isa Victory ship. The type of research conducted in this study was descriptive qualitative research using field observation, interviews, documentation studies, and fishbone data analysis techniques. The results of the study show that delays in unloading fertilizer bags are influenced by several factors, including port weather conditions, crew lack of understanding of SOPs, damage to loading and unloading equipment, lack of compliance with cargo arrangement procedures, cargo overload, and damage to cargo that is only detected during unloading. These factors are interrelated and cause disruption to loading and unloading activities. Efforts made based on the results of fishbone data analysis to overcome these problems include direct weather monitoring and monitoring through the BMKG Maritime Meteorological Station (STAMAR), routine maintenance of loading and unloading equipment, familiarization of new crew members and safety meetings, closing hatch covers during rainy conditions, repackaging damaged cargo, and implementing cargo calculation and stowage procedures.

Abstract

This research aims to improve students' motivation to learn mathematics, specifically in addition and subtraction materials with a maximum result of 20, through the implementation of the Science Technology Society (STS) approach. The subjects of this study were 12 first-grade students at SDN 114617 Lobu Huala. This study is a Classroom Action Research (CAR) following the Arikunto model, which consists of two cycles, each including planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. Data on learning motivation were collected through observation sheets covering six indicators: interest in following the lesson, enthusiasm in exploration, courage to ask questions, persistence in completing assignments, group cooperation, and activeness in demonstrating results. The data were analyzed using simple quantitative percentage techniques and qualified based on established criteria. The results showed that the application of the STS approach significantly increased students' learning motivation. This is evidenced by the increase in the average classical percentage of learning motivation from 51.5% (Moderate category) in Cycle I to 83.5% (High category) in Cycle II. This improvement was driven by the use of concrete media from the surrounding environment, which made abstract material more meaningful for students. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the Science Technology Society (STS) approach is an effective solution to enhance learning motivation and the active involvement of first-grade students in mathematics learning

Abstract

Reading literacy is an essential competency that must be mastered by elementary school students, especially in facing the demands of 21st-century learning. However, students’ reading literacy skills in Indonesia are still relatively low, particularly at higher-order cognitive levels. This study aims to analyze the reading literacy skills of fifth-grade students based on cognitive process levels, namely finding information (L1), interpretation and integration (L2), and evaluation and reflection (L3) in descriptive texts. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach. The subjects were 19 fifth-grade students of SD Negeri 060886 Kota Medan. Data were collected through a written test consisting of reading literacy questions developed based on learning objectives and cognitive processes. The results showed that students achieved high performance at the level of finding information (L1), with percentages reaching up to 100%. However, their performance tended to decrease at higher cognitive levels, particularly in interpretation and integration (L2) and evaluation and reflection (L3). Some students still experienced difficulties in connecting information, understanding implicit meanings, and providing critical responses to the text. These findings indicate that students’ higher-order thinking skills in reading literacy have not yet developed optimally. Therefore, it is necessary to design more systematic learning and assessment strategies to improve students’ critical reading skills.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the poetry writing skills of Grade VA students at SD Negeri 44 Kota Bengkulu. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative with a literature study approach. The subjects of this study were 20 students from Grade VA. Data were collected through poetry writing assignments with the theme of natural beauty and analyzed based on the elements of poetry, namely: diction, imagery, concrete words, figurative language, versification, and typography. The research instrument used was a table for analyzing students’ poems. The data analysis process was carried out through several stages, namely: data collection, data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification. Based on the results, students consistently used diction related to nature, although it remained simple. Imagery was dominated by visual imagery, while auditory and tactile imagery were not yet evenly developed. All students used concrete words to describe real natural objects; however, the use of figurative language, especially personification, was not evenly distributed across all works. The rhyme and rhythm of the poems tended to be free and not consciously structured, while the typography generally used lines and stanzas, although some works still resembled prose. A total of 16 students used all six elements of poetry completely. Meanwhile, four students did not use figurative language, resulting in poems that were still directly descriptive. It can be concluded that the students’ poetry writing skills are at an early to developing stage, characterized by the use of simple diction and concrete words, the dominance of visual imagery, and the uneven use of figurative language and rhyme.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the integration of Malay culture and Islamic values in the daily life of the community around Maimun Palace in Medan. This research uses a qualitative approach to understand social and cultural phenomena in depth. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with local communities, traditional leaders, and individuals who understand Malay traditions, as well as literature studies from journals and related sources. The results show that Malay culture and Islamic values are closely intertwined and mutually reinforcing in various aspects of life, including communication ethics, social interactions, dress codes, and traditional practices. The principle of “adat bersendikan syarak, syarak bersendikan Kitabullah” is reflected in the community’s daily behavior and social norms. Furthermore, traditional ceremonies such as marriage, birth, and death rituals demonstrate that customs do not contradict Islamic teachings but instead strengthen religious values. Despite the challenges of modernization, the community continues to preserve these values as part of their cultural identity. Therefore, the environment of Maimun Palace represents a living cultural space where the integration of tradition and religion is maintained sustainably.

Abstract

Foreign language textbooks function not only as instructional media but also as cultural texts that construct specific representations of social life. This study investigates how cultural meanings are embedded in the Guten Appetit! theme of the Netzwerk Neu A1 textbook through the semiotic framework of Charles Sanders Peirce. Employing a qualitative descriptive method, the research analyzes visual illustrations and textual elements using Peirce’s triadic model of representamen, object, and interpretant, as well as his classification of hypoicons (image, metaphor, and diagram). The results indicated that visual and verbal signs in the Guten Appetit! theme of the Netzwerk Neu A1 textbook represented German dining culture through icons, indexes, and symbols. These signs reflected social values such as politeness, orderliness, and communal interaction, showing that the textbook not only taught language but also conveyed cultural meanings to beginner learners. The findings contributed theoretically by extending the application of Charles Sanders Peirce's semiotic theory to the analysis of cultural representation in foreign language textbooks. Practically, the study showed that visual and verbal signs in simple themes such as Guten Appetit! conveyed deeper cultural meanings and could support learners' intercultural understanding in German language learning.
