Abstract

A new interpretation is needed to give meaning to conservation in the urban development framework and to support a sustainable cultural environment. Based on Québec Declaration (2008) and Burra Charter (2013), intangible dimensions became matter to give a richer and deeper meaning to the cultural heritage area. A shift has been seen in urban theories arguing for attention to the multi-sensory approach. This concept becomes matters as the raising critique towards the domination of visual perception in the built environment's design. The domination of audio-vision starting to reach out by the practitioners and scholars, unlike the other senses such as smell, tended to overlook and misconception. This paper outlines a pilot study's findings addressing holistic person-sensory experience in exploring the role of odor in shaping the cultural heritage area in Pecinan nowadays. It will discuss various scents detected, personal perception, and the link between odor and Pecinan's character. All this data was collected using a smells walk, questionnaire survey, and interview. This research aims to explore the potential interface in preservation conflict between the character of existing historic town and change as smellscape is part of the intangible element and part of triangle components of a sense of place in supporting successful urban place.

Abstract

Kromong Irrigation Area (Kromong Irrigation Area), is an irrigation area that already has readiness for the implementation of irrigation modernization (Sari, 2019). Hence, it is necessary to establish a Modern Irrigation Management Unit (UPIM), as an initial step to start the modernization of irrigation in the irrigation area. To find out the readiness for the establishment of UPIM, the data are needed for the existing irrigation management. The data were collected by firstly, interviewing irrigation officials in charge of the Kromong Irrigation Area. Secondly, distributing questionnaires to determine SWOT indicators to irrigation officials and the Association of Water Users Farmers Association (GHIPPA) in the Kromong Irrigation Area. Furthermore, the results of the SWOT indicators are weighted and rated to determine the Internal Strategic Factor Analysis Summary (IFAS) and External Strategic Factor Analysis Summary (EFAS) of each irrigation management agency. The study found that the readiness of mandatory functions in UPIM at Dinas PU PSDA Provinsi Jawa Timur had the highest value in the TOWS strategy quadrant graph (2.41 , 3.17), followed by UPT Pengairan Pugeran (1.89 , 2.24), and UPT PSDA Brantas Korwil Surabaya (0.78 , 1.86). All agencies have more strengths and opportunities than their weaknesses and threats. Therefore, DI Kromong is ready to establish an UPIM.

Abstract

Surabaya City is one of the cities in Indonesia that applies smart mobility. In implementing smart transportation, Surabaya city has already had a mode of transportation that supports the implementation of the ITS-ATCS infrastructure, namely Surabaya Bus. Not only to rely on advanced transportation modes and infrastructure facilities, one of the principles of smart transportation is the integration of modes. This study aims to examine the characteristics of physical integration that can be developed and maximized for the application of the Suroboyo bus multimodal smart transportation integration. The research method uses for the analysis is descriptive analysis while the method used for the data collection is primary data collection. The physical integration of smart transportation characteristics of Suroboyo Bus and the feeder such as the use of terminals, the use of bus stops, and transfers, need to maximize their function in the application of the physical integration of smart transportation for Suroboyo bus and feeder transportation.

Abstract

The construction industry has been under severe pressure in recent times to adopt environmentally friendly approaches to gain a competitive advantage. This is a result of failure to select durable and sustainable materials that comply with the acceptable requirement for standards, appropriate site selection, adoption of flexible and durable designs, proper planning and management of construction activities, and proper commissioning of building systems and equipment before occupation. This study, therefore, is on the influence of sustainable construction practices awareness level on the extent of usage in Abuja – Nigeria. The study elicited data from construction professionals in Abuja-Nigeria using structured questionnaires. Based on the awareness level, managing the site for an improved environment and smart homes had mean score values of 2.23 and 2.45 respectively. In a related development, the results of the extent of usage indicated that cost efficiency and smart homes had mean score values of 2.17 and 2.97 respectively. The paired t-test showed that there was no statistically significant difference in the level of awareness and the extent of usage of sustainable construction practices in the study area. Therefore, it was concluded that the use of the sustainable practice is influenced by prior knowledge and education in terms of awareness of the existence of such practices. Hence, there is a need for proper sensitization of sustainable construction practices on their importance and necessity to humans and the environment.

Abstract

This paper examines facilities management practice within a different environment. It assessed how the facilities manager responds differently in a different environment. Therefore, an extensive review of documented literature related to the concept of FM and the role of the facilities manager was conducted which forms part of the methodology. The review revealed that FM entails an integrated approach to maintaining, improving, and adapting the buildings, systems, and services of an organization to create an environment that strongly supports the primary objectives of that organization. The facility manager or the FM practitioner is therefore responsible for the effective and efficient provision of facilities and services to support an organization in achieving its primary objectives through operational and strategic approaches. The provision of these services follows the specific needs and requirements of the organization regardless of the application of generic standard solutions and practices or a universal approach. The paper suggests that the facilities manager or practitioner respond differently in a different environment rather than confining to generic standards and best practices. This is because appropriate FM practice and arrangement for a given organization determines by factors such as the organization's characteristics, facility features, business sector, and environmental factors.
