Abstract

With the increasing demand of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) innovations, it cuts numerous zones mobile communication, cloud computing and embedded system in modern living. Inter-net of Things (IoT) is widely used in environmental condition monitoring, logistic support and interfacing sensors and actuators wirelessly, which can be controlled from very long distance. This offers the capacity to control the world from a corner of a room. Wherein sensors and actuators operate reliably with the help of IoT. Wireless data transmission that uses Radio Frequency (RF) has major technical burdens and security vulnerability. The IoT replaced RF as it provides secure transmission capabilities. In this paper, we exhibit a technical overview of WSNs and IoT especially their drawbacks and challenges. Additionally, this paper discusses the progress of the WSNs and IoT innovation.

Abstract

Nowadays, machines play a critical role as those machines are broadly utilized in various subjects. The contribution of machines is swiftly growing day by day as they are starting to replace humans in everyday tasks. The machine is also used for the food and beverage industry to deliver the products easily and conveniently to customers. This paper focuses on the design and fabrication of the customized Ais Kacang vending machine for canteen, cafeteria and restaurant usage. There were five designs made and one best conceptual design was selected by using a ranking method. In addition, this paper explains the stress and strain analyses of the internal frame of the vending machine. The Ais Kacang vending machine has been undergone two tests, the geometrical and final product tests. The selected machine was able to produce a plate of Ais Kacang in 66 seconds using auto mode. However, the time needed to produce a plate of Ais Kacang in manual mode depended on the user.

Abstract

This work studies the effect of playing mobile phones while walk-ing to pedestrian safety. Thirty young-adults were observed while walking around Skanderbeg square with and without playing Pokemon GO. Results show that the walking performance deteri-orated when the participants played Pokemon GO as can be seen from the average number of laps decreased from 2.47 to 1.58 laps, the average number of collisions increased from 0.27 to 3.93, and the average number of slip, trip and fall increased from 0.03 to 2.07. It can be concluded that using mobile phone while walking could be dangerous for pedestrian safety.

Abstract

In this study, a copper (Cu) coated steel surface’s dynamic contact angle and corrosion rate was compared to the bare steel and stearic acid modified surfaces. Various steps of surface treatment have been performed including electrodeposition of Cu, CuO formation from H2O2 immersion with stearic acid modification to obtain dynamic contact angle and the corrosion rate data. The Cu-coated steel’s dynamic contact angle was increased as it implied the surface after Cu treatment was more hydrophilic than the bare steel, with sliding angle and contact angle hysteresis of 54.9o ± 2.39o and 39.5o ± 1.91o, respectively. However, corrosion test measurements by using a mass loss method to quantify the corrosion rate showed that Cu-coated steel and stearic acid-modified Cu-O coated steel had no remarkable difference in corrosion rate. It was found that the Cu-coated steel and stearic acid-modified Cu-O coated steel had corrosion rate eight times slower than the bare surface.

Abstract

The energy sector has been the highest contributor of green-house gases (GHG) emission in Japan. To reduce GHG emissions, the development and applications of cleaner technologies supported by effective policies are required. In this study, the effectiveness of Japanese government policies related to climate change mitigation especially in the technology development sector was analyzed. To do so, two methodologies; 1) results-based approach (RBA) and 2) case-based approach (CBA) will be combined to test the effectiveness of government policies. This combination was conducted to fill the missing data required to conduct the two methodologies. The merging of the two methodologies produced indexes where the proximity of the performance of each policy measured to it would determine its effectiveness. In order to verify the results, the number of projects related to the policy took place over the years was also observed. The results show that the most effective policies were related to the following technologies: 1) Energy management, 2) Biomass energy production, and 3) Electric power storage.

Abstract

Leather shadow puppet performances are slowly becoming isolated. They are no longer attracting the young generation towards its long duration and language complexity, inclusive of its incomprehensible storytelling and characters. To address this gap, this research utilized a descriptive qualitative method and mind map to transcribe and describe key concepts of both redesigning and avatar creation of leather shadow puppet character. The purpose of this study was to explore an alternative method in representing leather puppet performance by implementing a holographic prism glass technique. The digital representation of a leather puppet through a holographic prism glass medium is a manifestation of appreciating Indonesian cultural artwork in the modern era. The contribution of this study is to provide a more detailed explanation of a new manner in exploring and preserving the narrative and figure of the cultural heritage.
