Abstract

Various natural phenomena unresolved showing increasingly alarming conditions relating to the fulfillment of the right to life for future generations. Philosophy has a strategic role as an important rationale for determining one's position in dealing with the phenomenon. Deep philosophical grounding determines the flow of thought and solutions are formulated. This paper aims to examine the concept of land ethic by Aldo Leopold to determine a solution to the post-mining rehabilitation. This is a qualitative research uses literature review, desk study, and hermeneutic. Literature review from various sources of journals, articles, books, government reports, and corporate reports with related issues. Based on the results anthropocentrism has dominated the mindset of relevant stakeholders. It can be reflected in the policy product, field action, and the activity plan for the rehabilitation of post-mining land. The principle of utilitarianism very coloring all policies and actions taken. These conditions have sacrificed ecosystem especially land no longer considered as a subject that needs to be managed and maintained the quantity and quality. This process if not promptly corrected will result in deterioration of functions and ecosystems services and lead to instability. If that happens, then echoed sustainable development can never be realized.

Abstract

Boven Digoel was one of the first areas in Papua to meet the palm oil industry in the late 20th century. The palm oil industry’a arrival has changed the living conditions of the indigenous people who have occupied the Boven Digoel area for hundreds of centuries. Using community security and political ecology as the main concepts, this research seeks to determine how the development of the palm oil industry in Boven Digoel has caused and impacted the community security of the indigenous people. This study uses qualitative methods with document-based research, internet-based research, and interviews. The result shows that there is ambiguity in the interpretation of whether the way of life transformation indigenous Papuan people have been going through is considered as a loss. The current younger generation are easier to adapt to today’s modern stance. Meanwhile, before they experienced growth, the older generation had to feel loss first due to lack of knowledge and the many promises given during the land acquisition process. As a result of the change in the way of life, the ‘closeness to nature trait that have always been the trademark of the indigenous Papuan people has been fading.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of tamarind seeds in removing pollutant parameters in tofu wastewater produced in the process of making tofu. The parameters to be reduced are BOD, COD, TSS, and turbidity. Variations in coagulant doses used in this study were: 2g/L, 3g/L, 4g/L, and 5g/L. With a coagulation speed of 200 rpm for 3 minutes and a flocculation speed of 120 rpm for 14 minutes with a settling time of 60 minutes. The results showed that tamarind seeds were able to reduce BOD, COD, TSS, and turbidity at a dose of 4 g/L with a pH of 8. The results showed a decrease in turbidity parameters with an initial value of 950 NTU to 151 NTU with an efficiency of 84% removal, TSS parameter with initial value of 662 mg/L becomes 143 mg/L with 78% removal efficiency, COD parameter with initial value of 2987 mg/L becomes 533 mg/L with 82% removal efficiency, and BOD parameter with initial value of 1994 mg/L to 361 mg/L with a removal efficiency of 82%. These results indicate that COD and BOD are still above the quality standards set by the government and further research is needed.

Abstract

The determination of Large-Scale Social Restrictions (PSBB) resulted in a decrease in community activities outside the room. On the other hand, it has an impact on reducing emission levels in the air which describes the condition of air quality in the Jagakarsa. This study was to measure ambient air quality conditions referring to the Air Pollution Standard Index (ISPU). The method of analysis is descriptive-quantitative. ISPU parameters measured were PM10, CO, SO2, NO2, and O3. All parameters were tested by paired t-test. The measurement results on the status of ambient air quality were in the "good" and "moderate" categories. The implementation of the PSBB had a significant positive impact on the PM10, NO2, and O3 parameters. About 76% of respondents gave the perception was a change in the decrease in air pollution in Jagakarsa. The conclusion of the study is that the ISPU value as long as the PSBB is in effect shows better air quality than before and or at the beginning of the PSBB implementation. Research recommendations emphasize controlling parameters that tend to fluctuate such as SO2 and CO. The policy implication is through tree planting programs or gas-absorbing gardens as a controller to maintain air quality.
