Abstract

There are numerous version of stories of Batara Kala and Ruwatan. Principally Batara Kala is a personification of evil presented in form of myth. Sukerta is the food-victim of Batara Kala, which is determined by a given situation. Therefore, Ruwatan is a rite of purification or exorcism. Seen as such, the myth of Batara Kala can be paralled with the idea of the objectification process of sin into a structure which is mentioned by the Post-synodal Apostolic Exhortation Reconciliatio et Paenitentia. This concept of social sin does not liberate, rather emphasizes personal responsibility of sin. It calls for an acknowledgment that every sin has direct implications to nature. Ruwatan is an expression of deepest longing of man for a new earth and a new heaven. It is a cosmic reconciliation. The Eucharist is a summit expression of this cosmic reconcilition.

Abstract

The study examines the debate between the revisionists who wanted to revise or even abandon the doctrine of intrinsece malum ex objecto and the traditionalists who defended it which hinges on three basic issues: 1. Can the morality of the human act be assessed merely from its object independent of circumstances and the agent’s intention? 2. Can universal immutable prohibitive norms be truly absolute and exceptionless in conflict situations? 3. What further theological issues arise from the discussion? After examining their discussions which are situated in before and after Veritatis Splendor, the thesis concludes that the root cause of the debate was the different ways in defining intrinsece malum ex objecto by tradition, particularly that of casuistry and of the ethical theory. While reaffirming the doctrine, Pope John Paul II taught the fundamental points which he meant to reshape the discussion and bring the discourse back to its proper moral theological status.

Abstract

The modern era of genetics has led people to deconstruct the classical meaning of being a human person. Genetic engineering intended to heal the genetic disease turns to be genetic enhancement. Amniocentesis confuses many women during their pregnancy and it directs them into abortions. The biomedical world leaves the prominent Hippocratic Oath, and it creates horrifying effects in the near future. Human person is not considered as a subject anymore, but an object of human productions. This article offers a response of the negative consequences of genetic engineering and amniocentesis in light of the bioethical principle of nonmaleficence, which is richly expressed in the Hippocratic Oath: primum non nocere.

Gender analysis aimed is an analysis carried out to recognize conditional background and problems causing different roles between women and men. Six measurements used include political activity and behavior, free movement in job field, family establishment and pesinden rights, educational level she reaches, health and sexual attitude in her family and cultural expression in wayang entertainment art community. Those six measurements are used to recognize the status and role of pesinden in family, entertainment art community, and public. Pesinden position in her family is her right in selecting her husband, living right in sexual aspect and her right to propose divorce if there is unharmony in her family, the high status of pesinden in entertainment art community with special reward as high as main ‘level’ niyaga (traditional music player) and status of pesinden in her public with good ‘image’ in her audiences eyes. Pesinden function in her family as mother, as main supporting artist in entertaiment art community and as public organization pioneer in her community.
