Abstract

The implementation of clean and healthy living behaviors has an impact on children's growth and development. Independence is one of the urgent needs in the implementation of clean and healthy living behaviors, especially in disaster-prone areas such as the foot of Mount Merapi. This study aims to analyze the independence of early childhood in the implementation of clean and healthy living behaviors at the foot of Mount Merapi. Data collection was conducted using observation, interviews, and documentation of five research subjects: children aged 3-5 years, parents, close family members, and teachers. The results of the study showed that children aged 3-5 years demonstrated positive independence in the implementation of clean and healthy living behaviors, both at home and at school. Three out of five children were independent in washing their hands, both at home and at school. Additionally, three out of five children were also independent in using toilets at home. All five children demonstrated independence in disposing of waste, consuming healthy food and drinks, and balancing sleep/rest needs with activities at home. At school, all children have demonstrated independence in the indicators of using healthy toilets, disposing of waste, consuming healthy food and drinks, and balancing rest and activities. The implications of this research can serve as a foundation for teachers, parents, and policymakers to design curriculum and environment-based interventions, particularly in disaster-prone areas, to ensure that children's independence in Clean and Healthy Living Behavior continues to develop and supports their health and resilience in facing environmental risks.

Abstract

Learning in elementary schools requires approaches that can enhance students’ abilities, particularly scientific literacy, which includes understanding, interpreting, and applying scientific concepts in everyday life. However, conventional teaching practices still commonly used in classrooms lead to low levels of cooperative character and scientific literacy among students. This study aims to examine the effect of the Panca Pramana learning model on students’ cooperative character and scientific literacy. The type of research conducted is a quasi-experiment with a Posttest Only Control Group Design. The population of this study consisted of all fifth-grade students, totaling 62 students, with the research sample being class VA and VB. Data collection methods and instruments included questionnaires and essay tests. The data analysis methods applied were descriptive statistical analysis and inferential analysis. The results showed that the average score of cooperative character in the experimental group (83.26) was higher than that of the control group (71.16), and the average score of scientific literacy in the experimental group (82.32) was higher than that of the control group (67.10). Based on the results of data analysis, cooperative character and scientific literacy were found to be significant (0.000 < 0.05). Thus, learning through the Panca Pramana learning model has a positive effect on the cooperative character and scientific literacy of fifth-grade students. The implication of this study is that by applying the Panca Pramana learning model, students better understand the learning material provided and participate more actively in the learning process.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the challenges faced by the Alpha Generation in maintaining character values amid the rapid development of digital technology. Instilling character values has become crucial in shaping resilient, tolerant, and integrity-driven individuals in the 21st century. This study aims to analyze the implementation of digital technology in instilling character values in early childhood, referring to the Pancasila Student Profile Strengthening Project (Proyek Penguatan Profil Pelajar Pancasila, P5). A qualitative approach using a case study method was employed in this research. The subjects included principals and teachers of Groups A and B from five early childhood education institutions that met the criteria of technological ownership, high accreditation, and involvement in character education. Data were collected through observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation, with data analysis following the Miles and Huberman model, namely data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The results indicate that digital technology, using videos, images, animations, audio, and educational games, can effectively shape children’s character values, particularly in the dimensions of religiosity, independence, creativity, cooperation, and global diversity. The study concludes by emphasizing the importance of collaboration among teachers, principals, and parents, as well as the availability of technological infrastructure, in optimizing digital media as a fun and meaningful tool for instilling character in the Alpha Generation.

Abstract

Exclusiveness is a challenge for Indonesia as a pluralistic nation. Based on the data, cases of intolerance have even begun to target the world of education. In response to this challenge, religious universities in Indonesia have come together to implement a collaborative program called Nationhood Community Program Service, which is well-known as Kuliah Kerja Nyata (KKN) Nusantara. However, there has been no description of the form and implications of the program in concrete terminologies. This research aims to examine in depth the essence and implications of KKN Nusantara in developing the moderate character based on the Concept of Religious Moderation. This research utilized a qualitative type, with a phenomenological approach. Through purposive sampling technique, the main data was obtained through interviews with student representatives, lecturers, and the community. The data was then corroborated with a literature study, validated using triangulation techniques, and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman approach. The results showed that the essence of KKN Nusantara is presented as an embodiment of the Tri Dharma of Higher Education and is expressed in the form of several work programs, including Independence Day Celebrations, the introduction to holy places, socialization of religious moderation, and preservation of local culture. As a conclusion, the implementation of KKN Nusantara produces positive implications in developing the moderate character of the community based on the Concept of Religious Moderation, both towards the attitude of national commitment, tolerance, non-violence, and accommodation for local culture.

Abstract

Biology learning materials, particularly on the reproductive system, often emphasize mechanistic and biological aspects while overlooking the importance of integrating adolescent sex education and gender equity values. This gap may perpetuate misconceptions and gender bias among students. This study aims to critically analyze the representation of gender equity and sexuality education in senior high school Biology textbooks through a critical discourse analysis framework. A qualitative research design was employed, utilizing Norman Fairclough’s three-dimensional model consisting of text analysis, discourse practice analysis, and social practice analysis. The study involved three widely used Grade XI Biology textbooks, including one government-issued and two private publishers' editions as comparative data sources. The findings reveal a uniform pattern of placing reproductive system topics at the end of the textbooks, predominantly presenting anatomical and physiological content without integrating comprehensive, inclusive, and gender-equitable sexuality education. Moreover, the textbooks demonstrate gender bias, insufficient discussions on consent, sexual violence, and unequal access to contraceptive information. This study concludes that the textbooks reproduce patriarchal ideologies and exclusive scientific discourse, failing to address adolescents' psychosocial and ethical aspects of sexuality. The findings highlight the urgent need for textbook revisions that promote comprehensive, gender-equitable, and contextually relevant sex education for high school students.

Abstract

Student well-being is a crucial factor influencing academic engagement, psychological adjustment, and overall success in higher education, particularly during the first year of study when students face significant academic and social transitions. First-year students often experience challenges such as adapting to new learning environments, managing academic demands, and building social connections, which can affect their psychological well-being. This study aims to analyze and explore the level of well-being among first-year students in the Guidance and Counseling program. Using a survey design, the research involved 188 active first-year students selected from five student cohorts. Data were collected through an online questionnaire consisting of 18 items measured on a 4-point Likert scale, and analyzed descriptively. The results indicate that 77% of students fall within the moderate category of well-being, 20% in the high category, and 3% in the low category. Conceptually, these findings suggest that the majority of students maintain an adequate level of psychological well-being, yet there remains a considerable proportion requiring targeted support. The study concludes that enhancing responsive self-development programs is essential to strengthen the psychological well-being of first-year students during their academic transition.

Abstract

Character education in schools often faces challenges in internalizing values through real-life experiences. Limited student engagement makes character education less meaningful. This study aims to describe the implementation of character education through the Community Service Program (Sekolah Kerja Nyata, SKN) and to identify the values it fosters. Using a descriptive qualitative method, data were collected through in-depth interviews with the principal, supervising teachers, and students. The results show that SKN successfully fostered values such as responsibility, cooperation, social awareness, independence, and religiosity. Students demonstrated improvements in discipline, communication skills, and leadership through participation in social activities. The program aligns with experiential character education approaches that emphasize social interaction as a means of value formation. The study concludes that SKN is an effective model of character education by integrating academic learning and attitude development through direct engagement. SKN also has the potential to be adopted as a co-curricular activity within the new curriculum structure, as it supports cross-disciplinary learning and character development through contextual, project-based approaches. These findings provide a foundation for developing similar programs in other schools to strengthen character formation relevant to real life.

Abstract

The low level of student initiative, despite relatively high levels of empathy and resilience, presents a significant challenge in character development at the secondary level, as it has the potential to hinder independence, proactive behavior, and readiness to meet both academic and life demands. This study aims to analyze the relationship between initiative, empathy, and resilience, while also identifying their implications for strategies to strengthen student character. Employing a quantitative descriptive correlational design, the research involved 300 respondents using an 18-item questionnaire that was both valid and reliable (Cronbach’s α = 0.86–0.90). Data were collected through surveys and analyzed using descriptive statistics and Pearson’s correlation test. The findings indicate that empathy ranked highest, followed by resilience, while initiative ranked lowest, highlighting the need for interventions to foster autonomy and proactive behavior. A strong positive correlation was found among the three variables, particularly between initiative and resilience (r = 0.79), indicating interdependence. These results recommend enhancing empathy through Social and Emotional Learning (SEL), resilience through counseling, and initiative through independent projects and coaching, in alignment with the Pancasila Student Profile (Profil Pelajar Pancasila) and the World Economic Forum’s character taxonomy, to support students’ holistic development.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the low learning outcomes of students on the topic of plant parts in fourth-grade elementary school, which is caused by the limited use of engaging learning media that suit the students’ characteristics. The purpose of this study is to develop interactive learning videos to improve students’ learning outcomes. The development model used is the ADDIE model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). The subjects of this study were 18 fourth-grade students. The data collection methods and instruments used in this development research included questionnaires and multiple-choice tests. The data analysis techniques employed were qualitative descriptive, quantitative, and inferential. The results of the study indicate that the interactive learning videos developed were effective in improving students’ learning outcomes, as evidenced by the increase in average scores and positive responses from the students regarding the learning process. The implications of this study suggest that interactive video media can be an appropriate solution for teaching science, especially for visually-oriented topics, and can encourage teachers to be more innovative in designing technology-based learning.

Abstract

The low level of students’ responsibility character, attributed to the dominance of conventional teaching methods, highlights the need for innovative learning models grounded in local culture that can meaningfully instill character values. This study aims to analyze the effect of the Picture and Picture model assisted by the traditional game sepit-sepitan on the responsibility character of elementary school students. A quasi-experimental approach was employed, using a non-equivalent control group design. The study involved 30 students selected through cluster random sampling, consisting of 17 students in the experimental group and 13 in the control group. Data were collected using an observation sheet measuring responsibility character on a dichotomous scale. The data were analyzed using the independent sample t-test. The analysis revealed that tcount = 2.90 exceeded ttable = 2.048 at the 5% significance level, indicating that H₀ is rejected and H₁ is accepted. These results suggest that the Picture and Picture model assisted by the sepit-sepitan game has a significant positive effect on improving students' responsibility character. The findings imply that the integration of culturally-based learning models can serve as an effective and enjoyable strategy for strengthening character education from an early age.
