Abstract

Mind mapping based learning is learning to use keyword, terms, images/symbols, describing the integrity of a material. This learning can encourage students to develop thinking technique in all directions, remembering, taking notes, increasing motivation and being able to deduce the results well. The ability of students to think critically and creatively, communicate and collaborate are abilities  that  must be developed from an early age to enter global competition. This paper aims to describe the science based on mind mapping in developing critical thinking, creative, communicative, and collaborative skills; as well as knowing the development of critical thinking, creative, communicative, and collaborative skills through mind mapping science learning. The form of research is classroom action research carried in 2 cycles using non-test instrument namely observation and interview sheets. The data obtained were processed descriptively using percentage analysis. Based on the results of data analysis, mind mapping based learning can arouse motivation and interest in learning, communicating and collaborating, more constructing knowledge, learning easier. Mind mapping based science learning can develop critical and creative thinking skills respectively by 35%, communicative 40%, and collaborative by 35%.

Abstract

Activity-based learning is a student-centered learning process that involves mental and psychological aspects through a variety of experiences. This study used GAPTEK visualization, namely physical activities of lining, cutting, pasting, and calculating. The purpose of this study was to describe how activity-based learning of fraction operation material using GAPTEK visualization, to find out how much the percentage of student positive responses, and the effectiveness of the learning in grade 7 students of SMP Negeri 3 Kepil. The research method uses quasi-experimental research with data collection in the form of learning outcomes tests, observations and questionnaires. A significance value of 0.895> 0.05 indicates that the two groups are normally distributed and homogeneous. The significance value of the difference is 0.569> 0.05 which indicates that there is no difference between the pretest mean of the control and experimental groups. The learning description shows that students are actively involved in group discussions and share roles. The average percentage of students' positive responses related to activity-based learning about fraction operations using GAPTEK visualization was 95.3%. Activity-based learning has been effectively used, which is shown by the experimental class average of 74.33 exceeding the value of 70.00, and exceeding the average control class, namely 56.00. The difference in the increase in the average pretest and posttest experimental class was 37.33, more than the difference in the control class of 21.00.

Abstract

The rapid development of informatics and computer (ICT) techniques has an impact on education today. On the other hand, the changing paradigm of education that used to embrace teacher-centered learning into student-centered learning has brought significant changes to the learning methods developed today. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of problem-based learning models assisted by Edmodo social networking site on critical thinking skill and student learning outcomes. This research was conducted in class VIII of SMP Negeri 6 Jepara in the odd semester of 2019/2020 Academic Year on the material of pressure and its application in daily life. The research design used was the pre-test and post-test control group design. Data retrieval is done by observation, documentation and tests. The results showed that the value of tcount  critical thinking skills and student learning outcomes > ttable value (1.99). The value of tcount critical thinking skills and learning outcomes respectively is 11.12 and 2.757. The result of this study concluded that the problem based learning model supported by Edmodo’s social networking site is effective to improve critical thinking skills and students learning outcomes.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to see the difference in the influence of the Snowball Throwing model, conventional models and students' interest in learning on learning outcomes. This type of research is a quasi-experimental research using a quantitative approach. The population was all fourth grade students of the Gugus III Public Elementary School, Lembah Melintang District, while the sample consisted of 42 grade IV students at the 02 Lembah Melintang Elementary School. 21 students in the experimental class and 21 students in the control class. Data from research results obtained from student learning outcomes tests. The ratio of X1 and X2 to Y is 16.25%, while the percentage ratio of X2 a and X2 b to Y is 16.82%. The results show that there is an influence of the Snowball Throwing model and interest in learning outcomes of Social Sciences in class IV Elementary School 02 Lembah Melintang.

Abstract

The use of Table 3X3 is one way that mathematics teachers can make it easy for students to understand the quadratic factoring concept. The aim of this research is to describe the learning process using Table 3X3 which can improve the understanding of the quadratic factoring concept of class VIII G students of SMP Negeri 1 Jepara. This research is a classroom action research which is carried out in two cycles. Each cycle consists of four components, namely: planning, action, observation, and reflection. The results showed that the use of Table 3X3 can improve understanding of the quadratic factoring concept as indicated by an average test score of 16.39 or 24.38% in end cycle, from an average score of 67.29 in the first cycle to 83, 68 in the second cycle and the achievement value of 75 is from 58.33% in the first cycle to 72.22% in the second cycle. Thus it can be concluded that the use of Table 3X3 can improve the understanding of the quadratic factoring concept.

Abstract

Self-efficacy and mathematics communication are problems associated with the CATCH program and are the subject of this research. The aim of this research is to know the effectiveness of CATCH program based on peer tutoring to self-efficacy and the students’ mathematics communication. CATCH program is develop into some levels, those are pre development, development, and post development. The Research and Development methodology that is used the system of Akker, it consists of introductionand  formativetest  with  Tessemer  as  the guidance. It measures: self evaluation; expert review; one to one; small group; field test. The subject of this research is the students of Junior High School with 20 students of Grade 8. The self- efficacy scoring is got from self-efficacy scale and the data of mathematics communication ability based on mathematics communication test. The expert review shows that CATCH program based on peer tutoring to fulfill the standard of material, design, and language. The result of one to one test shows the positive result based on the students’ response after getting the program and the students’ responsibility towards the program. Then, the test of small group shows the positive result of the reading efficiency and their understanding. The research shows that the CATCH program based on peer tutoring is an effective way to improve self-efficacy and  the students mathematics communication.

Abstract

The problem in this research is the low poetry writing skills of the VIII grade student sof State Junior High School 6 Bontang. This type of research is classroom action research. Retrieval of data using observation, tests, and interviews. The author conducted two treatments in this study. The first without using media and the second using image media and dictionaries glossary. Based on the results of the study, it can be stated that learning using image media and dictionaries can increase the activeness and skills of writing poetry for VIII grade students. The skill of writing poetry in students has increased, we can see from the average score of the students. In the initial conditions the average value is 40, in the first cycle it increases to an average of 60, (still not reaching the KKM value) in the second cycle it has increased quite significantly to an average value of 85. Thus it can be said that the application of image media and dictionaries glossary is quite significant in improving the poetry writing skills of grade VIII students of SMP Negeri 6 Bontang.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the increase in learning outcomes and teacher and student activities in the learning process using the Two Stay Two Stray method on Theme 6 Sub-theme 1 Animal and Plant Diversity. This study used a qualitative approach with the type of classroom action research. The data sources were all students in grade IV SD Negeri 9 Jangka for the 2018/2019 academic year, totaling 16 people. Data were collected through tests, observations, interviews, and field notes. The results showed that the application of Two Stay Two Stray learning can improve student learning outcomes on the material diversity of animals and plants in class IV SD Negeri 9 Term. This can be seen from the results of the final test cycle I obtained a percentage of 62.50 percent and in cycle II increased to 87.50 percent. The activities of teachers and students in the learning process are included in the very good category and students are seen to be active in the implementation of learning. Therefore, it can be concluded that the Two Stay Two Stray model can improve learning outcomes and teacher and student activities on science material in elementary schools.

Abstract

The purpose of this article is to develop a media-based 21st-century learning model in the form of cognitive and affective learning media to cultivate Pancasila values ​​and be aware of the constitution (SIPANCA), test the feasibility and practicality of the media, and measure the effectiveness of the media. The development method is used to refer to the development steps of Gall and Borg (2008) and adopted into five phases. The results of this development are the creation of final media with specifications by affective and cognitive goals, and this media is declared feasible by media experts and field users with high eligibility criteria with an average score of 3,875 out of a total score 4 (3.875/4) for the validation of SIPANCA game; the validation of SIPANCA application (3.75/4); the validation of microcontroller-based SIPANCA shielding media (3.75/4); the practically test of SIPANCA game (3.875/4); the practically test of SIPANCA application (3.975/4); and the practically test of microcontroller-based SIPANCA shielding media (3.93/4). The development of a 21st-century media-based learning model of character with the theme of Pancasila values ​​and awareness of the constitution provides theoretical benefits to the reference of studies in the fields of education, learning, and media development related to learning strategies in schools.

Abstract

The research was aimed at improving the student’s activeness and speaking skill by using role exchange model and character doll media. The research consisted two cycles.The procedures were: planning, implementation, observation and reflection. The study used two data. The qualitative data through observation the student’s activeness in learning process.The quantitative data were obtained by speaking test performance. The students’ activeness with high score in preliminary observation reached 5 students (17,86%) improved 23 students (82,14%) in Cycle II. It can be seen that all students paid attention their teacher, engaged in problem solving and applied they learned. Most of them also had ideas and gave the questions. The data of the speaking skill assessment in preliminary observation showed that 42,85% (12 students) got the same score or above KKM with the average 61,77  increased 89.29% (23 students) with the average score was 77.3 in second cycle. Improvement was significant especially in student’s vocabulary mastery, comprehension and fluency. While, grammar and pronunciation improved although was not significant. The conclusion of this research is that: (1) the students’speaking skill improves from the previous condition, first cycle and then second cycle; 2) the students’ activeness in English teaching learning also improves.
