Abstract

Tooth-retained overdentures are a simple and cost-effective treatment than the implant-supportedoverdentures. When few teeth are present which are periodontally strong can be used as abutments foroverdenture fabrication. This helps in the retention and stability of the final prosthesis. The extraction ofteeth results in bone resorption, so preserving them as an abutment can not only provide retention andstability to the denture but also prevents bone loss and provide proprioception. Above all, “it gives thepatient the satisfaction of having prosthesis with his natural teeth still present”

Abstract

The dental tissues comprising of dentin, enamel, sometimes pulp, and cementum are the hamartomas whichare known as odontoma. These have behavior not so aggressive. The common type of tumor of odontogenicorigin about (35-76)% is the odontoma. It is a tumor of benign type arising from epithelial and mesenchymaldifferentiated alteration, odontogenic cells. These odontomas are of two types–complex and compound, the both are differentiated from each other by the organization of the tissue of dental origin in a ratio of1:2. Although the etiology is not known till now but may be related to anomalies of hereditary origin, infection, also by trauma and by hyperactivity of odontoblast process. By the means of radiological viewthese odontomas can be recognized and these in very few case causes expansion of the cortical bone. Theseodontomas occur in the second decade in number and usually takes place in the mandibular second or thirdmolar tooth. This particular article summarizes the complex composite odontoma.

Abstract

Introduction: The aim of treating mandibular fracture is to recover the anatomic structure and functionwith special caution in restoring the occlusion. Champy’s miniplate fixation has been the most commonlyusedprocedure amongst the various treatment modalities available. The 3-dimensional (3D) plating is fairlynew for treating mandibular fractures.Aim: This research was performed to equate the effectiveness, flexibility, and rigidity of 3-dimensionalplates with that of 2 mm titanium miniplates in anterior mandibular fracture surgical management.Material and Method: The study was conducted on a singlepatient with anterior mandibular fracture (Rightparasymphysisregion). The patient’s preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative clinical and radiological findings were recordedin a proforma. Results: The timerequired to adapt and fix the miniplates were slightly more than3-D plates and results weresignificant. Skeletaland occlusal stability was maintained. Conclusion: the 3-dimensional plate is as effective as conventional miniplates in the treatment of anteriormandibular fractures. Its the ease of use and reduced working hours that are advantages over traditionalminiplates.

Abstract

Endodontic success usually depends on the localization of canals along with the proper shaping as wellas cleaning of the root canal system in addition to 3 D Obturation of the canal system. Root Canal (orendodontic) therapy in single visits can be defined as a non-surgical as well as conservative managementof an endodontically associated tooth that consists of biomechanical preparation with obturation of theroot canal system in a single visit. The purpose of endodontic therapy is thorough mechanical as well aselement debridement of the total pulp cavity as well as its full obturation with static restorative material. There has been a subject for long eminence debate within the dental community regarding the advantagesand disadvantages of single sitting root canal therapy versus the multiple visit root canal therapy. Withmodern advanced technologies and surfacing of new gadgets as well as evidence-based dentistry along withthe concept of maximum dentistry in minimum visits has given an urge to a new venture in the treatmentprotocols in dentistry. This review article discusses the advantages and microbiological considerations ofsingle-visit endodontic therapy

Abstract

During the development of embryo ectodermal dysplasia occurs as a consequence of disturbances of theendoderm. Clinical features include hypotrichosis and palmoplantar hyperkeratosis or alopecia,a triad of naildystrophy,a partial or complete absence of primary and/or permanent dentition, and lack of sweat glands. Inthis study, the syndrome ectodermal dysplasia shows a severe case of anodontia. Since the oral rehabilitationof these cases is often difficult; particularly in pediatric patients, treatment should be administered by amultidisciplinary team involving pediatric dentistry, orthodontics, prosthodontics, and oral-maxillofacialsurgery.

Abstract

Cancrumoris is a disease of great antiquity described by Hippocrates and Galen. The termnoma, a commonsynonym for the disease, is derived from the Greek verb ‘to devour’.Tourdes(1948) definedcancrumoris thatis still substantially correct. Hedescribed the condition as a gangrenous affection of the mouth that especiallyattacks children in whom the constitution is altered by bad hygiene and serious illnesses such asexanthematousfevers. According to him, the disease is manifested by an ulcer of the oralmucous membrane, edema of theface extending from within out, and rapid destruction of the soft tissues and bone with an outcome that isalmost always fatal. Nowadays, cancrumoris still affects children predominantly. It occurs very rarely in theaged with decreased hostresistance. Noma sequelae comprise bony and soft-tissue losses that affect bothaesthetics and function. Complex defects should be treated in a staged fashion with the most complex initialstages performed in better-equipped institutions and less complex stages done on home ground. Althoughcomplete correction may be planned to restore function and aesthetics, thenoma patient may eventually besatisfied with a functional but less aesthetic outcome.
