The Jurnal Ilmu Faal Olahraga (JIFO) welcomes submitted research papers in all areas of physiology. We are particularly keen to publish papers that have a clinical or translational focus, to help further our understanding of the role physiology plays in health and disease. Authors should present original work that illustrates new physiological principles or mechanisms. Papers on work at the molecular level, cell membrane, single cells, tissues or organs and on systems physiology are all encouraged. Theoretical papers and papers that use computational models to further our understanding of physiological processes will be considered if based on experimentally derived data and if the hypothesis advanced is directly amenable to experimental testing. The Jurnal Ilmu Faal Olahraga (JIFO) publishes full-length original Research Papers and Techniques for Physiology, which are short papers aimed at disseminating new techniques for physiological research. Articles solicited by the Editorial Board include Perspectives, Symposium Reports and Topical Reviews, which highlight areas of special physiological interest. CrossTalk articles are short editorial-style invited articles framing a debate between experts in the field on controversial topics. Letters to the Editor and Journal Club articles are also published. All categories of papers are subjected to peer review.

Abstract

The majority of studies have found that aerobic exercise can reduce the increment of triglyceride postprandial in plasma. Therefore, the author is doing this research to know the difference of triglyceride concentration in plasma between-group who joint high impact exercise and group who joint body language exercise after given the same amount and dietary composition which had done high impact and body language exercise before. Twenty men (19-39 years old) did high impact or body language exercises for 1 hour. Two hours later, they were given dietary composition with carbohydrates 60% and fat 25%. Then the triglyceride postprandial concentrations were measured 3, 5, and 6 hours after the given dietary food. The result showed that the triglyceride concentration of high impact group was higher than body language group 3 hours after given dietary food (122.167 ± 17.11627 vs 111.67± 7.86554 mg/dL) and there was no difference between the high impact and body language group 5 hours (96.167 ± 7.25029 vs 94.0 ± 16.66133mg/dL) and 6 hours after given dietary food (77.5 ± 8.8261 vs 78.167 ± 14.27469 mg/dL).In conclusion, the triglyceride concentration of the high impact group was higher than the body language group 3 hours after given the same amount and dietary composition. But, there was no difference between triglycerides concentration of body language group and high impact group 5 and 6 hours after given the same amount and dietary composition which had done high impact and body language exercise before.

Abstract

Under specific circumstances such as during aerobic predominant exercise, the production of free radicals increases and creates free radicals-endogen antioxidants imbalance. It causes oxidative stress. The level of oxidative stress can be recognized by measuring the level of plasma malondialdehyde (MDA). But the effect of physical activity and the effect of exogenous antioxidants supplementation is still not clearly known in the literature. Based on the background above, as a preliminary study, the writers conduct a study to investigate the plasma MDA level on mice which is given and not given a combination of Brastagi’s oranges and carrots juice before physical activity using mice’s treadmill for 10,20, and 30 minutes. The research method used in this study is an experimental laboratory study. As objects of this study are 24 mice(mus musculus), white-colored, male, weighting 25-30 grams, which is randomly chosen. The objects are divided into 2 groups, Group A: 12 mice (given a combination of Brastagi’s oranges and carrots juice before physical activity using mice’s treadmill) and group B: 12 mice (not given a combination of Brastagi’s orangesand carrots juice before physical activity using mice’s treadmill). Group A is divided into 3 subgroups: A1 (doing treadmill for 10 minutes), A2 (doing treadmill for 20 minutes), and A3 (doing treadmill for 30 minutes). The same procedure is employed for group B. Plasma MDA level measured after doing a physical activity using mice treadmill. The homogeneity of the result then was tested using Levene’s test and the normality of the result was tested using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test (p>0.05). Further, the data were analyzed using an independent t-test (p≤0.05), one-way ANOVA (p≤0.05) then Duncan’s test were used. The analyzed data indicated a combination of Brastagi’s oranges and carrots juice supplementation given to mice before physical activity, for 10,20, and 30 minutes caused lower plasma MDA levels than mice not given a combination of Brastagi’s oranges and carrots juice before physical activity. The differences are 38,44% (0,5277 vs 0,8571) (A1-B1); 37,96% (0,5866 vs 0,9455) (A2-B2); dan77,79% (0,8438 vs 1,6161) (A3-B3).The conclusion of the study suggested that a combination of Brastagi’s oranges and carrots juice supplementation given to mice before physical activity for 10,20, and 30 minutes caused lower plasma MDA levels than mice not given a combination of Brastagi’s oranges and carrots juice before physical activity.

Abstract

Indonesia's Muslim society is obligated to carry out the fast of Ramadan. In general, the Muslims carrying out fasting Ramadan are likely to consume foods that are high in fat, protein, and carbohydrate although the frequency and amount of eating food intake decrease. The habit of eating foods wide high in fat, protein, and carbohydrate maintained until after the Eid al-Fitr. This research aims to know the differences in energy intake comes from carbohydrates, protein, and fat between the end of the Ramadan fasting (25/9/2008) and the time of Eid al-Fitr, 1 week(6/10/2008), 1 week (15/10/2008), 1 week (24/10/2008) after the Eid al-Fitr. The subject is a member company of Yonkav (cavalry battalion) 4 Tanks of Bandung, randomly selected, aged 20-29 years, already carry out month-long fast of Ramadan and in a healthy condition. The type of this research is a descriptive longitudinal. Food intake at the end of the fast of Ramadan (25/9/2008), 1 week (6/10/2008), 1 week (15/10/2008), 1 week (24/10/2008) after the Eid al-Fitr is recorded using the 24-hour recall. The data obtained are then processed to obtain data regarding the percentage of total energy intake, the intake of energy comes from carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. The results showed a rise in total energy intake and energy intake comes from fat also decrease intake of energy comes from carbohydrates on Idul Fitri, 1 week, 2 weeks, 3 weeks after Idul Fitri as compared to the end of the fasting of Ramadan. While the intake of energy derivedfrom protein has no change.

Abstract

The benefits of Tai Chi and Wai Tan Kung exercises on cardiopulmonary endurance and body composition have become a controversial issue. The survey analytical computational study was performed to investigate the differences in cardiopulmonary endurance and body composition among elderly members of Tai Chi, Wai Tan Kung, and elderly sedentary. The study involved 10 elderly members of Tai Chi, 10 elderly members of Wai Tan Kung, and 10 elderly sedentary. The Astrand-Rhyming’s step test was conducted to measure the cardiopulmonary endurance. While the measurement of body composition (body fat percentage) was done using a skinfold caliper. The data were analyzed with an unpaired t-test(p<0.05). The results of the study indicated that cardiopulmonary endurance (VO2 max) and body composition (body fat percentage) of Tai Chi elderly members were the best of both Wai Tan Kung elderly members and of elderly sedentary; while cardiopulmonary endurance and body composition of Wai Tan Kung elderly members were better than those of elderly sedentary.
