Abstract

Forests are a source of plant biodiversity whose existence and benefits are very large for humans, one of which is medicinal plants. The purpose of this study was to identify the types and analyze the potential of medicinal plants found in the Penam Ketungau Forest, Empaka Kabiau Raya Village, and Karya Bakti Village, Sintang Regency. This study uses a survey method with a sampling design in the form of systematic sampling with random start. A cluster is made in the form of a square and at each corner and in the middle a plot is made (5 plots) with the shape of a circle (radius 17.8 m). Each plot contained 5 circular subplots in the form of a seedling subplot with a radius of 1 m, 2 m stake, 5 m pole, and 17.8 m tree. The plant species obtained were identified and potential data (density and relative density) at each growth stage were analyzed. The results obtained 45 species of medicinal plants, and the species with the greatest potential were at the seedling level (6000 individuals/Ha (29.27%)) and saplings (2375 individuals/Ha (37.25%)) namely Hopea mengerawan Miq, Dryobalanops Dyer oblongifolia at the pole level (40 individuals/Ha (25%)) and Hopea borneensis at the tree level (43.21 individuals/Ha (13.46%)). The still good condition of the forest, the large potential, and the variety of medicinal plant species identified in the Penam Ketungau Forest indicate the success of the efforts made by the community around the forest and the Sintang District Government in maintaining and protecting the Penam Ketungau Forest, so that in the future it is necessary to improve the status of the Penam Ketungau Forest. become a High Conservation Value (HCV) forest.

Abstract

Currently, seaweed extracts are widely used as plant biostimulants to increase the efficiency of nutrient use, tolerance of abiotic stress, and improve plant quality. In this study, tested the effect of different Padina minor seaweed extract formulas (liquid extract and powder extract) and the frequency of application of Padina minor seaweed extract (b0 = control; b1 = 1 x application; b2 = 2 x application; and b3 = 3 x application) as a biostimulant to the growth of upland rice. From the results of the study, it was found that there was no significant effect of the application of the two extract formulas and the frequency of application, but the administration of Padina minor extract 3 times during vegetative growth increased all growth parameters, such as: plant height, number of tillers, fresh and dry weight of plants, and chlorophyll content. It was concluded that giving Padina minor extract 3 times could increase the vegetative growth of upland rice effectively.

Abstract

Species identification is one of the most basic and important factors in fisheries management. Oreochromis sp., such as tilapia (Oreochromis mosambicus) and tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) are introduced species of fish originating from outside Merauke which are now the dominant fish and are commonly found in inland waters of Merauke. The purpose of this study was to identify the economically important fish species Oreochromis sp. which landed at Merauke Traditional Market with DNA Barcoding approach. DNA amplification with the COI gene resulted in a DNA sequence length of 655 bp with the identification result being Tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus). Based on the phylogenetic tree data and genetic distance, the DNA sequences of the samples formed the same clade as the Oreochromis niloticus sequences from GeneBank with 0% genetic distance and it was estimated that these species came from the same parents. Identification with DNA Barcoding makes it easy to identify species quickly and accurately.

Abstract

This study aims to conduct an analysis based on available data sources (meta-analysis) on the trend of using virtual simulations in learning to support critical thinking. The SCOPUS database was used as the data source in this study. This meta-analysis study was conducted in December 2021 by including the keywords “virtual, simulation, learning, and critical thinking” in the search documents section on the SCOPUS page. In the initial search, 112 documents were found, this includes all “subject areas, documents, and source types” and in the range from 1999 to 2021. Not a single document was found under 1999. The subject areas included are social sciences, computer science, and others (a total of 23 subject areas). Contains 8 documents and source types (articles, conference papers, book chapters, and others). The results are documented in (.csv) and (.ris) files. The files are processed using Microsoft Excel for document graphic visualization by year, print screens of SCOPUS data sources for document types and subject areas, and comprehensive analysis of quantitative data displayed on SCOPUS data sources. Finally, the results in this study show that the research trend of virtual simulation in learning to support critical thinking has penetrated in many fields. The assessment of SCOPUS primary data sources shows journal articles as the most “document and source type” (50%) followed by conference papers and others. In addition, social science is the most document “subject area” (28.2%) followed by computer science and others.

Abstract

Measurement of morphological characteristics is needed to understand buffalo's conformation, productivity and reproduction. This study aims to describe the morphological characteristics of buffalo taken from the West Nusa Tenggara region and to carry out phenetic analysis based on the results of morphological character measurements. This study was exploratory with 16 individual buffalo as subjects taken purposively from two different populations, namely West Sumbawa and West Lombok Regencies, West Nusa Tenggara. The morphological characters measured included leg length, hip width and head width. Morphological character data were analyzed descriptively and non-parametrically using the Mann-Whitney test. In contrast, the phenetic analysis used the Unweighted Pair Group Mean Average (UPGMA) method supplemented by Principle Component Analysis (PCA). The measurement results showed variations in the morphology of the buffalo (Bubalus bubalis) in West Sumbawa and West Lombok Regencies. The character of leg length was significantly different in both populations (Sig <.05). In contrast, the other two characters, namely head width and hip height, were not significantly different (Sig >.05). Furthermore, the phenetic analysis showed that the relationship between the two populations of buffalo was significantly different, which was strengthened through PCA analysis which revealed that there was no genetic mixing between the buffalo populations.
