Abstract

Elderly defined as someone who has reached the age of 60 years or older who will experience anatomical, physiological and biochemical changes in the body, causing various health problems, one of them is uric acid which if excess, causes monosodium urate crytals in the joint space, causing severe joint paint and joint swelling (particularly in the big toe, middle foot, ankle and knee) thus causing inflamation. CRP is one of alpha globulin that rises in the blood serum after an inflammatory pocess occurs. The aims of this study to determine the description CRP in elderly with high uric acid levels. This research is a cross sectional study and sampling by purposive sampling with 22 respondents. The results of CRP in elderly patient with gout there were 16 respondents (72,7%) positive CRP and 6 respondents (27,3%) negative. Thus, it can be concluded that CRP is found in elderly people with gout as a marker of the inflammatory process.

Abstract

Dengue fever is a disease transmitted by female Aedes aegypti mosquitoes that have been infected with the dengue virus from other dengue fever sufferers. This disease is one of the infectious diseases that often causes outbreaks and causes death and can cause Extraordinary Events (KLB). One way to prevent the spread of dengue fever is by controlling the Aedes aegypti mosquito, this control can be done by using a repellent. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of cinnamon ethanol extract (Cinnamomum burmanii) as a natural insecticide repellent against Aedes aegypti mosquitoes and to determine the active compounds contained in the rhizome of jeringau. This research was conducted using an experimental laboratory method with a focus research design to determine the effectiveness of the ethanolic extract of cinnamon (Cinnamomum burmanii) as a repellent against the Aedes aegypti mosquito. Based on the research, it was obtained at a concentration of 5% of mosquitoes that stayed away as many as 8 (80%) for 5 minutes, a concentration of 10% of mosquitoes that stayed away as many as 90 (90%) for 5 minutes, and at a concentration of 20% of mosquitoes that stayed away as many as 10 ( 100%) for 5 minutes. While the control (+) within 5 minutes of mosquitoes away as much as 10 tails (100%) and control (-) there are no mosquitoes that move away as much as 10 tails (0%). The results of this study can be concluded that the ethanol extract of cinnamon (Cinnamomum burmanii) is the most effective as a repellent at a concentration of 20%. This extract is able to act as a repellent and function as a natural insecticide against Aedes aegypti mosquitoes.

Abstract

Soil Transmitted Helminths (STH) are also called intestinal nematodes, which are often a problem for humans who are transmitted through soil. Workers in contact with the land are at risk of infection with Soil Transmitted Helmints (STH) eggs. Brick craftsmen who are accustomed to not wearing boots or footwear and gloves while working and lacking personal hygiene can be at risk of causing worm infections. Method used is descriptive with a sample of 30 people using the Direct Slide method. The results of research samples of brick craftsman faeces, it was found that 5 samples (16.7%) were positive for Soil Transmitted Helminths (STH) eggs with a prevalence of Ascaris lumbricoides (6.7%) and Hookworm (10%) and and 25 samples (83.3%) were negative for Soil Transmitted Helminths (STH) worm eggs. Discussion The employees who are directly in contact to the ground, especially brick craftsmen, have higher risk of being infected by worms due to lack of personal hygiene and not using Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while working thus easier for the transmission of Soit Transmitted Helminths (STH) infection.

Abstract

One of the ways to establish a diagnosis of pulmonary tuberculosis is through laboratory investigations. The quality of the specimen is known to greatly affect the results of the examination. In order to ensure good quality specimens, sputum from pulmonary tuberculosis patients should be examined immediately after collection. However, conditions in the field sometimes result in delays in testing. This study aims to determine whether or not there is an effect of storage time for sputum specimens at room temperature on the results of acid fast bacilli assessment. The research was conducted at Udayana Tingkat II General Hospital Denpasar in January-April 2020. Type of research was a pre experimental design with a one-shoot case study approach. Sputum storage was carried out for 24 hours and 48 hours at a temperature of 22-250C. Acid fast bacilli examination was carried out using the Ziehl Neelsen staining technique and acid fast bacilli assessment was carried out based on the IUATLD scale. The research data were analyzed for normality of the data and Friedman's test. The results showed that there were differences in the results of the acid fast bacilli assessment on specimens immediately examined and those stored at room temperature for 24 hours and 48 hours. Based on the Friedman test, it was found that the P value was 0.00 (P <0.05) so that it was concluded that there was an effect of storage time for sputum specimens at room temperature on the results of acid fast bacilli assessment.

Abstract

Personal protective equipment (PPE) is the final effort in controlling hazard risks in health laboratories. The use of PPE is carried out by hospitals accompanied by standard operating procedures (SOPs) on how to use them. The compliance of laboratory officers in applying SOPs for the use of PPE is influenced by internal and external factors. The study was conducted to see the compliance of laboratory workers at Santa Maria Hospital Pekanbaru in implementing SOPs for the use of PPE during work. This type of research is descriptive using cross sectional method with a sample of 34 laboratory workers of Santa Maria Hospital Pekanbaru.. The results showed that the working period (p = 0.353), knowledge (p = 0.516) and attitude (p = 0.094) of laboratory workers did not affect the compliance with the use of PPE according to the SOP. On the other hand, understanding of SOPs and supervision of the use of PPE has a significant effect on the compliance of laboratory personnel in using PPE according to SOPs (p = 0.006)

Abstract

Ministry of Health Indonesia in 2006, helminthiasis is one of the endemic problems that can be found in various places in Indonesia. Worms are problem that mostly affects elementary school children due to personal hygiene and poor environmental sanitation. The purpose of this study was to determine the presence or absence of Soil Transmitted Helminth (STH) worm eggs in students of SDN 5 Dwitunggal Rangsang in Kepulauan Meranti. The research applied direct and sedimentation methods. Based on microscopic examination with sedimentation method, the results of the research indicated one positive sample of Trichuris trichiura out 27 samples studied.
