Abstract

In Indonesia, patriarchal norms and societal expectations significantly constrain women's agency and autonomy, particularly in the context of singleness. However, research on the experiences of single women in Jakarta is notably limited within academic discourse. Breaking the Patriarchal Mold aims to explore the intersections of feminism, singleness, and women's empowerment in Jakarta. The primary objective is to challenge and dismantle patriarchal norms while amplifying the voices of marginalized single women. The journal invites submissions from various theoretical perspectives, including feminist theory, intersectional feminism, queer feminism, and postcolonial feminism. These perspectives will be utilized to examine and contextualize the experiences of single women in Jakarta. Breaking the Patriarchal Mold will feature scholarly articles, personal essays, and creative works that delve into the experiences of single women in Jakarta. It is anticipated that the journal will shed light on the diverse experiences of single women in Jakarta and provide insights into how patriarchal norms and societal expectations impact their lives. The journal's findings will contribute to the broader discourse on feminism, singleness, and women's empowerment in Indonesia. Additionally, it will promote gender equality and social justice in the region. Breaking the Patriarchal Mold will serve as a platform to elevate the voices of single women in Jakarta, challenge prevailing patriarchal structures, and advocate for greater gender equality and social change.

Abstract

In Indonesia, up to 60% of people suffer from lactose intolerance therefore creating lactose-free milk by Milk Life is a vital option. However, despite its benefits, sales are not reaching the brand’s expectations, suggesting the Indonesian market is yet to be fully tapped. This research examines Milk Life's Instagram marketing strategies aimed at enhancing awareness and sales of its lactose-free milk product. Utilizing qualitative research methodology, particularly in-depth interviews for data collection and analysis, it investigates the efficacy of these marketing endeavors in educating consumers and influencing their purchasing behaviors. Upon data collection, the analysis is conducted manually, involving careful examination of interview results, linking them to research questions, and interpreting them in an interpretive manner. Results reveal a significant lack of awareness about lactose intolerance and Milk Life's products, attributed to the current digital marketing approach, which led to low purchase intentions. The study highlights an urgent need for better digital marketing strategies and communication to inform the Indonesian public about the advantages of lactose-free milk. Enhancing online visibility and education could improve market growth and meet the needs of lactose-intolerant individuals. This research emphasizes the role of targeted digital marketing to increase the reach and acceptance of lactose-free milk in Indonesia.

The findings show that climate change in this region has significantly impacted the ecology of disease vectors, rainfall patterns, and the spread and prevalence of the Aedes aegypti mosquito as the primary vector of dengue fever. Social, economic, and infrastructure factors also play an essential role in the increase in dengue fever cases. This research provides an in-depth understanding of the relationship between climate change and increased dengue fever cases in North Maluku Province. The implications of these findings underscore the urgency of implementing adaptation and mitigation strategies to address public health risks associated with climate change. This study shows climate change has increased dengue fever cases in North Maluku Province. Therefore, more effective preventive measures, coordination between institutions, and more active community participation are needed to deal with the health impacts caused by climate change.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the communication capacity of public health cadres in designing and implementing effective health communication campaigns and their impact on changing the nutritional behavior of rural communities and helping to reduce the number of stunting cases in Indonesia. This study uses a qualitative and case study approach focusing on health communication strategies implemented by community health cadres in South Konawe Regency, Southeast Sulawesi Province. Data collection used an in-depth interview method with public health cadres, which included evaluating their understanding of health communication, the use of social media in delivering health messages, and their ability to adapt nutrition messages to the local cultural context. Research findings show that most health cadres do not understand effective health communication. The use of social media in delivering health messages is still not optimal, and there are challenges in understanding and integrating local cultural contexts in nutrition counseling. The implications of this study suggest that enhancing the capacity of community health cadres in South Konawe Regency is imperative, particularly in proficient health communication through social media platforms and understanding the nuances of local cultural contexts. It is anticipated that implementing strategies aimed at augmenting the training and skill development of health cadres would significantly contribute to endeavors to mitigate the prevalence of stunting cases in rural Indonesian regions.

Abstract

Thanks to the Belt and Road Initiative, the rise of China has brought forth new sets of opportunities and challenges for Southeast Asia. Indonesia has become one of Southeast Asia countries that has close economic relations with China. The Indonesia-China High Speed Rail project, which connects Jakarta-Bandung with a 142 km long line, can be seen as one of the biggest projects between Indonesia and China. However, the project faces an overrun of around USD 2 billion. This paper aims to analyze the worst possibility that Indonesia will face, namely China's Debt Trap. This paper uses the literature study method. The results show that Indonesia has the potential to be caught in China's debt-trap if there are no comprehensive economic recovery efforts without relying on foreign loans. State income from loans and debts will only lead Indonesia under the influence of the lender country. This paper suggests that Indonesia needs to reconsider its decision to use APBN funds for a new capital project, namely Nusantara. This can make Indonesia trapped in a debt-trap due to excessive reduction in state assets.

Abstract

Maternal mortality remains unacceptably high, particularly in low and middle-income countries (LMICs), representing a critical challenge requiring novel approaches to reach underserved populations. Community health worker (CHW) programs have demonstrated potential to promote maternal health by enhancing health literacy, service utilization, and access to care. This study aimed to critically synthesize evidence on leveraging CHWs as an innovative strategy for reducing maternal deaths across LMICs. A review of empirical literature from 2000-2023 was conducted across major databases (PubMed, CINAHL, Embase). Quantitative, qualitative, mixed-methods and review studies reporting primary data on CHW program impacts related to maternal health in LMICs were included. Thematic synthesis was used to explore CHW roles, implementation factors affecting effectiveness, and impacts on drivers of maternal mortality. CHWs increased antenatal care attendance, facility-based deliveries, obstetric complication recognition/referrals, and postnatal follow-up—contributing to reductions in maternal mortality across contexts like Nepal, Ethiopia, and Malawi. However, optimizing impact required comprehensive training, logistical support, functional integration of CHWs into health systems, community participation mechanisms, and tailored incentive packages fostering motivation. Persistent implementation challenges included poor supervision, lack of supplies/transportation, fragmented referral coordination, and inadequate sustainable financing. On implications, there is the need for context-adapted program models underpinned by health system readiness and multistakeholder commitment to overcoming long-standing implementation barriers.

Abstract

The policy of decentralization and regional autonomy in Indonesia aims to promote regional development by granting authority to regions to administer governance and development. However, the implementation of this policy still faces various challenges, including limited community involvement, low cooperation among regional governments, as well as constraints in regional capacity and finances. This research aims to optimize the role of regional institutions in regional development, focusing on five districts in Garut Regency. The research method used is qualitative with descriptive analysis, aiming to comprehensively describe the role of regional institutions in regional development. The findings of this research conclude that regional governance in Indonesia has undergone significant changes after implementing decentralization. Sub-districts, previously considered ordinary regional entities, have now become more significant entities within the framework of regional governance. This change reflects efforts to provide greater autonomy to regions in managing local governance and development affairs. Thus, sub-districts play a more proactive role in formulating policies, managing resources, and advancing development at the local level. However, these changes also bring implications such as potential conflicts among institutions and challenges in optimizing the effectiveness of regional governance as a whole. The optimal effectiveness of institutions will function well when there is strong commitment from regional leaders to ensure that these changes align with the goals of regional development and the interests of the communities they serve.
