Abstract

The research used the thrust bearing of a 1298cc automobile. The thrust-bearing material was annealed stainless steel (SS 201) with a tensile strength of 685 MPa and a yield strength of 292 MPa. The research objective was to obtain the best static thrust-bearing analysis results based on CAE software analysis. The research method included design stages, material parameters, fixed geometry determination, loading, meshing settings, computation, and result data. The simulation results were in the form of stress values, where the maximum stress value on the three-hole, one-hole, and non-hole thrust bearings were 227.2 MPa, 215.1 MPa, and 138 MPa, respectively. The non-hole thrust bearing could be the safest among all variations. The non-hole thrust bearing had a critical stress area value of 154 MPa, where it could absorb a force of 52.75% of the yield strength, the lowest strain was 8.531E-4, and had the highest minimum safety factor of 1.896.

Abstract

Less ergonomic work postures such as bending and squatting have the potential to pose work risks. When muscles receive static loads repeatedly and for a long time, it causes complaints of damage to joints, ligaments, and tendons commonly referred to as musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) or injuries to the musculoskeletal system. This study aimed to determine the level of risk of work postures performed by workers in each work activity using the Rapid Entire Body Assessment (REBA) and Ovako Working Posture Analysis System (OWAS) methods and provide suggestions for improving work postures to minimise the occurrence of work risks. The research was conducted at the foundry of metal in the Casting section. Initial data in the form of Nordic Body Map (NBM) questionnaire data used to determine complaints in the musculoskeletal system and data in the form of image documentation on each work activity used as material for analysing the assessment of the REBA and OWAS methods. Proposals for improving the working posture were given in the form of adding foundations for moulding and pattern-making activities, the design of tools for metal liquid pouring activities, and furnace designs for metal smelting. Abstract

This study aimed to calculate the design earthquake with a harmonic sine wave approach at a frequency of 1.5 Hz; 2.5 Hz; 3.5 Hz; 4;5 Hz, as well as Loma Prieta, Northridge, and Kobe ground motion. In addition, a structural response review was also carried out based on a comparison of the effects of the ground motion and sine wave earthquake forces. This study used an experimental method of modelling an apartment building with a scale of 1: 50. The case study was located in Mantrijeron, Yogyakarta, which has a seismic category in the medium-size class. The analysis phase began with material definition, element dimension estimation, modelling by analysis software, loading estimation, structural analysis, and comparison of structural responses based on the deviation. The results indicate that the building model could withstand dynamic loads from harmonic waves up to a frequency of 5.5 Hz for one minute of vibration. The most significant deviation is shown at a frequency of 4.5 Hz with an x-axis direction of 0.110 and a y-direction of 0.160. The structural response resulting from ground motion loading shows that the highest deviation occurred due to the influence of the Kobe earthquake, with a deviation of 0.063 in the x-axis direction and 0.054 in the y-axis direction. Based on these results, the effect of harmonic sine waves is greater than the ground motion loading on the response of the building structure, so it is used as an experimental loading through a vibrating table with the actual residual deviation results showing a value of 0.9 mm in the y-axis direction. The difference in structural response results could be caused by the supports and connections modelling in planning through analysis software which could not precisely represent the actual implementation of the building model.

Abstract

Hoax news prediction is required to anticipate the growth of hoax news in social media. This study aimed to determine the best model for predicting whether the news is a hoax or valid based on the dataset taken from Kaggle.com. This study used several data prediction methods: Support Vector Machine (SVM), Random Forest, Logistic Regression, and Naïve Bayes. After the research processes and data testing, the results showed that the best model for predicting hoax news was SVM, which had the highest accuracy, precision, and recall score of the others.

Abstract

Good water quality in fish nursery cultivation greatly influences the harvest quality. Temperature and Ph can be maintained properly with proper air circulation. The main problem is that the best flow rate quality in fish ponds of 0.123m3/second is only achieved through the flow from the dam. In this study, the installation of hydram pumps in fish ponds was carried out with the angle of assessing the inflow and discharge to adjust to variations in the diameter of the inlet and outlet pipes, the height of the inlet pipe, and the height of the tank. The experimental design used L9 orthogonal array Taguchi with four replicas. The result of this study was that the maximum value of the input flow rate was 305.73 cm3/second, and the discharge flow rate was 40.35 cm3/second. The maximum value was in the 8th composition; namely, the variation of the inlet pipe height was 200 in, the outlet pipe height was 350 cm, the inlet pipe diameter was 1 in, and the outlet pipe diameter was ½ in.

Abstract

Briquettes are solids that are generally made from agricultural waste materials. Char briquettes are one of the alternative energies for daily needs. This study used char from palm shell and LDPE microwave-assisted co-pyrolysis at 450 Watts. The briquettes were made from the product of co-pyrolysis of palm shell and Low-Density Polyethylene (LDPE) with variations in the composition of 0:100, 50:50, and 100:0 and pressure of 50 kg/cm2, 100 kg/cm2, 150 kg/cm2, and 200 kg/cm2. In this research, thermogravimetry analysis (TGA) was the method used to determine combustion characteristics. This study aimed to determine the combustion characteristics, including the Initiation Temperature of Fixed Carbon (ITFC), Initiation Temperature of Volatile Matter (ITVM), Peak of weight loss rate Temperature (PT), Activation Energy (Ea), and Mass Loss Rate (MLR). The results showed that the increased briquettes pressure increases the ITVM, ITFC, PT, and EA. The higher LDPE composition in the briquettes decreased the ITVM, ITFC, PT, and Ea, but increased the MLR.
