When the first time appeared in 1999, Marina Chimica Acta was introduced as trilingual journal meaning that we can accept to publish articles in any kind of three languages such as bahasa Indonesia, English, and French. Starting April 2017, however, the publication has been made in English only, no more in bahasa Indonesia nor in French. Currently, Marina Chimica Acta is an international medium and occasional reviews of the publications of original studies (research papers) and occasional reviews in the field of marine chemistry. The journal will endeavor to cover all aspects, from chemical processes to theoretical and experimental work, and by providing a central channel of communication, to speed the flow of information in rapidly expanding disciplines. Submitted paper should be written in English.

Abstract

The research aimed to find out the effect of Fe2+ and Mn2+ towards β-carotene productivity as result of oxidative stress from photosystem (PS II). The phytoplanton Isocrysis aff galbana (T-iso) were the microalgae species which had the high lipid content primarily and had potentiality to produce β-carotene as the β-carotene supplement. Analysis method was carried out by the sonication extraction for short and cheap in the lysis cell of phytoplankton biomassa, infra red (IR) to find out the interaction metal ion and UV/VIS spectrophotometer to determine β-carotene concentration. The research result indicateds that Fe2+ has higher impact than Mn2+ on the β-carotene productivity. The interaction of ions metal indicates as   M-N, -O-M and M←OH-C complex in the phytoplankton amino acid. The β-carotene concentration is 4,97 µg/g DW in addition Fe2+ 0,30 ppm and 1,95 μg/g DW in Mn2+  0,20 ppm. The dry weight concentrations of β-carotene indicates that  I. aff galbana with Fe2+ addition has potential as β-carotene supplement.

Abstract

Cadmium is an element that can accumulated in seaweed thallus. One of an alternative methode was used to determine the amount of Cd(II) ions were accumulated in Euchema Cottoni thallus is adsorption methode, that was conducted with variations of contact time and concentrations. The concentrations of Cd(II) ions in solutions were determined by using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer (AAS). Isothermal model to evaluated the maximum adsoprtions capacity were used Freundlich and Langmuir isotherms. Based on both isothermal models the results showed that adsorption capacity were 33,898 mg/g wet weight by Langmuir and 0,00625 mg/g wet weight by Freunlich isotherms respectively. The adsorptions energy (ΔG) is 9,7482 KJ/mol indicated as physisorptions. While infrared spectrum showed Euchema cottoni have –OH,  CO2,  -CH2,  -CH3,  and  - SO3- functional groups.

Abstract

The aim of this investigation is to estimate metal concentration distribution, Pb,Cd, Cr, and Zn,in Callispongia sp, sediment and water column in Halong waters of Ambon bay. After sampling, analytical processes were carried out according to Warsidah (2001) and measure it by ICP-OES (Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectroscopy). The Results showed that callispongia sp, contain highest metal concentration compared to water and sediment that is 9.56 mg/kg dry weight (ppm) of Zn while sediment was of 0.5 ppm and in waters 0,750 ppm. It can be concluded that the role of spongest in absorbing trace metals must not be underestimated. In the future more research in this area need to be conducted so that an alternative local solution for trace metal pollution can be constructed.

Abstract

A research on essential metal distribution of copper in Spermonde waters has been carried out. Sponge species of Melophlus sarassinorum, Callyspongia aerizusa, dan Clathria reinwardtii were identified and analyzed accordingly. Copper level were measured using Inductrively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectroscopy (ICP-OES) and the results showed that highest concentration was found in Clathria reinwartii  48.3 ppm. Copper distribution in sponge skeleton is higher than in its tissue and seemingly in terms of species the highest concentration is Clathria reinwartii taken from Barrang Lompo waters. In the meantime, Samalona waters contain highest concentration in its sedimen (3.96 ppm). Apparently Spermonde waters is beginning being interferred by metal pollution.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the levels of copper (Cu) in the sponge symbiont bacterial. The research was carried out through the steps of isolation, identification, and measurement of the metal content. Sponges used in this research is of Callyspongia sp. Bacteria were isolated from Callyspongia sp sponges in the Bacillus sp gram-positive. By using Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer, the results showed that the levels of Cu for Callyspongia sp is 8.9112 ppm, while in the extracellular bacterial isolates Cu level ranging between 1.4009 ppm and 2.0336 ppm and in the intracellular is between 0.4786 ppm and 1.7813 ppm. It is concluded that bacterial isolates either in extra- as well as intracellular were both accomodated copper in their bodies.
