Abstract

Mother with dual-career family has a dual role to be performed at the same time. Therefore, as a mother with double plays in a dilemma between family and career interests. Data collection using "snow-ball"  technique to 12 informants and informant election using theoretical sampling. The process of data analysis include braketing, horizonalizing, meaning units to get the description textural, imaginative variation to get the description structural, and blends (composite) into a meaning universal. The results showed that although mothers working face a dilemma in attempting to balance career and family, but for the mother's own career is needs to embodiment her self-and actualization strengthen existence. Their role models, the permission of the husband and the state of children, its potential and the desire to improve family economy, as well as the opportunity to rise to Higher career in work place makes mothers works feel need to work but still retains her role as mother and wife.Keywords : Mother , careers , dual - carrier family and self-actualizationCopyright © 2014 by Kafa`ah All right reservedDOI :  10.15548/jk.v4i1.93

Abstract

The article describes the forms of labels provided by the public in the city of Padang as part of Minangkabau culture, particularly aimed at women who pass social deviation in behavior related to the community. Abstract

The high rate of domestic violence is influenced by the lack of institutions in completing and anticipating it, besides the tendency of indigenious culture which consider it as a common problem. Nevertheless, in West Sumatra, the strengthening of local institutions has been one of the assets that can prevent the occurrence of these domestic violences. This study found that the existence of economic institutions, the strengthening of women’s institutions and women's economic empowerment in the village can reduce the occurrence of such violence. Abstract

In this paper, the author looks at various cultural issues on health reproduction in relation to Minangkabau cultural perspective in the province of West Sumatra. Minangkabau is one of the ethnics which adopt matrilineal system. That is why then this paper wants to highlight the cultural issue that is related to the problem of health reproduction that is commonly found in social context of Minangkabau society. Abstract

Soenting Melajoe is the first womens newspaper published in the Minangkabau and the mission is to improve the quality and degree of women. Newspaper which was published in 1912 is a reflection of the social movement in the Minangkabau women fighting for and achieving their rights without going out of their natures as the “keeper” in his household.
