Abstract

The industrial sector has increasingly become a catalyst for economic transformation inIndonesia, particularly as agricultural land conversion and labor shifts accelerate urbanindustrialization. Within this process, the halal industry has emerged as a strategic field due tothe growing global demand for halal-certified products. Pekalongan City, historically recognizedfor its textile and batik production, represents one of Indonesia’sleading creative hubs in halalfashion. This study aims to analyze the structure of the halal fashion value chain and its socioeconomic implications for local communities in Pekalongan. Employing a qualitative approachthrough literature review and field interviews, the research examines the positioning ofPekalongan within the global halal fashion ecosystem. The findings reveal that Indonesiaremains a net importer in the global halal fashion trade, with the industry’s economic valuelagging behind the halal food and beverage sector. In Pekalongan, halal fashion activities areconcentrated on domestic markets, while export participation and certification adoption remainlimited. The study concludes that the halal fashion ecosystem in Pekalongan is still in itsformative stage and requires integrated support in value chain development, export facilitation, and institutional coordination to enhance global competitiveness.

Abstract

This study explores the growing phenomenon of flexing—the public display of wealth andluxury—within digital society from the perspective of Islamic economics. The research aims tounderstand how such self-presentations on social media reflect broader shifts in consumervalues, identity construction, and moral behavior. Employing a qualitative descriptive approachwith a library research method, this paper analyzes classical theories of conspicuousconsumption alongside Islamic teachings on moderation (wasathiyyah), humility, andresponsible ownership (amanah). The findings reveal that flexing culture represents atransformation of consumption from a functional activity into a symbolic performance thatseeks validation and social capital. From an Islamic economic perspective, this behaviorcontradicts the ethical principles of simplicity, gratitude, and social justice, potentially leadingto materialism and moral imbalance. The study concludes that strengthening spiritual literacy, ethical awareness, and the integration of Islamic consumption principles in digital spaces areessential to guide Muslims toward a more sustainable and equitable consumption pattern.

Abstract

This study explores the implementation of green banking practices in Bank Syariah Indonesia(BSI) through the lens of Islamic economic ethics and sustainable finance principles. Theresearch seeks to understand how Islamic banking institutions integrate environmentalresponsibility within their financial operations, investment decisions, and corporate governancestructures. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected throughdocumentation, literature review, and secondary reports from regulatory authorities and BSI’ssustainability publications. The findings indicate that BSI has adopted various environmentallyconscious initiatives such as green financing, paperless transactions, and eco-efficientinfrastructure. However, the implementation remains partially instrumental, focusing more onregulatory compliance than on transformative commitment to sustainability. From an Islamicperspective, these efforts resonate with the principles of Maqashid al-Syari’ah—particularly thepreservation of life (hifz al-nafs) and wealth (hifz al-mal)—but require deeperinstitutionalization through strategic alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)and Islamic Environmental Governance. The study contributes to the growing discourse onIslamic sustainable finance by emphasizing that true green banking must embody not onlyenvironmental prudence but also spiritual accountability and social justice.

Abstract

This study investigates the effect of profitability ratios on the stock prices of Islamic banks listedon the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) during the period 2018–2020. The research employs aquantitative approach using secondary financial data derived from the annual reports of threeIslamic banks, namely Bank BRI Syariah, Bank Panin Dubai Syariah, and Bank BTPN Syariah.Profitability is measured through Return on Assets (ROA), Return on Equity (ROE), and Earningsper Share (EPS), while stock price serves as the dependent variable. Data are analyzed usingmultiple linear regression and classical assumption tests to ensure the validity of results. Thefindings reveal that EPS has a positive and significant influence on stock prices, whereas ROAand ROE show positive butstatistically insignificant effects. Simultaneously, all three profitabilityindicators collectively exert a significant impact on the stock prices of Islamic banks. Theseresults suggest that investors in Indonesia’s Islamic capital market place greater emphasis onearnings information as a reliable signal of firm performance. The study contributes to thegrowing literature on Islamic finance by offering empirical evidence from emerging marketconditions and provides insights for investors, bank managers, and policymakers seeking toenhance financial transparency and market confidence in the Islamic banking sector

Exchange ratestability is found to enhance trade competitiveness, whereas inflation demonstrates a shortterm but significant effect on growth. The study highlights the interdependence between tradeand monetary variables in shaping macroeconomic performance. Policy implications emphasizethe importance of maintaining external balance, controlling inflationary pressure, and fosteringexport diversification to sustain long-term economic growth in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study investigates the impact of infrastructure development and population growth onregional economic performance across the provinces of Java Island, Indonesia. Using panel datacovering the period from 2016 to 2021 obtained from the Ministry of Finance and the CentralBureau of Statistics, the study applies a Random Effect Model to assess the contribution of roadinfrastructure, electricity infrastructure, and population to provincial Gross Regional DomesticProduct (GRDP). The empirical results reveal that road and electricity infrastructure exertpositive and statistically significant effects on GRDP, indicating that improvements intransportation networks and energy supply directly enhance regional productivity and economicactivity. In contrast, population growth shows no significant effect, suggesting that demographicexpansion alone does not guarantee economic advancement without correspondingemployment opportunities and infrastructure quality. The model explains 84.14 percent of thevariation in GRDP, confirming the strong explanatory power of infrastructure variables. Thesefindings highlight the importance of sustained investment in physical infrastructure to promoteinclusive and balanced economic growth across regions

Abstract

This study explores the implementation of Islamic economic principles and business ethics among street vendors operating within the tourism economy of Gili Air, North Lombok, Indonesia. The research is motivated by the growing significance of Islamic ethical frameworks in promoting fairness, honesty, and social justice in business practices, especially within informal microeconomic sectors linked to tourism. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation involving Muslim street vendors engaged in daily trading activities around the Gili Air tourism area. The findings reveal that most vendors possess a basic understanding of Islamic business ethics such as honesty (ṣidq), trustworthiness (amānah), justice (ʿadl), and mutual benefit (taʿāwun). However, the practical application of these principles varies, depending on individual awareness, economic pressure, and market competition. The study also identifies that social interaction and community solidarity play important roles in shaping ethical conduct. In general, Islamic values are not only reflected in transactional behavior but also in the vendors’ spiritual attitudes, which influence how they perceive work as a form of worship (ʿibādah). The research concludes that strengthening Islamic business ethics in the local tourism economy requires continuous education, moral guidance, and institutional support to ensure the sustainability of ethical practices in micro-trading activities. This study contributes to the discourse on Islamic economics by linking ethical behavior to the dynamics of informal trade in tourism-based local economies.
