Abstract

This article presents an in-depth analysis of 1 Corinthians 6:11, departing from the historical context of the first century Corinthians who experienced moral decadence in line with the reality in today's Indonesia where Christians fail to show behavior that has undergone divine transformation. This verse serves as a rhetorical and theological climax in Paul's argument against sinful practices in the church. Through a theological analysis from the Pentecostal perspective of three key terms: washed, sanctified, and justified by God's central role, it is shown that the verse is not merely a warning, but rather a proclamation of a fundamental new identity for believers as a divine transformation in the midst of moral decadence. It is concluded that 1 Corinthians 6:11 is a transformative divine declaration, transforming the identity of sinners into heirs of God's Kingdom that has been washed, sanctified, and justified. In the Pentecostal perspective, the work of the Holy Spirit is the foundation for divine transformation.

Abstract

Matthew chapters 5-7 are commonly called the Sermon of Christ on the Mount. The opening (Matt. 5:1-2) and concluding verses (Matt. 7:28-29) affirm that Jesus taught with divine authority. Through a qualitative method with a literature review approach, this article interprets both passages from a Pentecostal point of view, relating them to homiletics. The findings of the study show that the delivery of the word is not just a human task, but an act of divinity because: the Holy Spirit anoints the preacher, the preacher has spiritual authority, and the powerful preaching causes wonder. The authority in the teaching of Jesus, became the inspiration for the powerful sermons of the Pentecostals. Its implications for today's homiletics include: balancing biblical exegesis with spiritual readiness, delivering sermons with divine authority, and a style of preaching that is responsive to the work of the Holy Spirit.

Abstract

This article is written to examine the hermeneutical approach of Walter C. Kaiser, Jr., in his critique of the use of analogy of faith (analogia fidei) as the main interpretive tool in biblical theology. Kaiser proposed Analogia Antecedents as an alternative to interpreting the Bible based on previously revealed texts chronologically. The aim is to maintain the historical intent and the true intent (authoritative) of the original author. The research in this article uses a qualitative literature study method with a comparative analysis approach to Kaiser's main works and hermeneutical literature from the Pentecostal tradition. Through comparative analysis, it was found that both still adhere to the authority of the Bible, but both offer different heuristic methodologies in interpreting the text, where one emphasizes the structure of progressive revelation, while the other gives place to pneumatological experience. The conclusion obtained is that these two approaches have their respective strengths and limitations, but both open up opportunities for rich integration between faithfulness to the text and sensitivity to the role of the Holy Spirit in biblical interpretation.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

The telling of Bible stories is a part of the tradition of passing on the Christian faith to children. However, the massive development of digital technology has brought a significant shift in the pattern of educating Christian faith within the family. The high intensity of relationships with social media has replaced the personal relationships between parents and children. Digital media has replaced essentially the role of parents as the primary narrator of the Bible story. Whereas this is a part of passing on the Christian faith to the next generation. The approach is conceptual, literature-based on scientific sources in databases such as Google Scholar and ResearchGate related to the concept of the telling of Bible stories as a mandate for faith education. This study aims to analyse the concept, theological narrative foundation, and implementation of Bible storytelling in the family in the digital age. The analysis results show that the telling of the Bible story is pedagogical and is a mandate of education from God to every parent. Bible storytelling has a theological narrative foundation. It is about God's faithfulness, God-centred - Christ-centred, with love as the basis of the storytelling. Christian’s parent should critically and creatively tell the Bible story in the digital era.

Abstract

"Who is my neighbor?" This question was posed by a scribe, motivated by his understanding that "neighbor" was limited to Jews alone. Jews considered themselves the most holy, chosen by God, and had no regard for foreigners or people other than their own. This understanding tended to limit their behavior to loving others beyond a specific relationship. This study focuses on uncovering the theological meaning contained in Luke 10:25-37. The research method used is descriptive qualitative research. The purpose of this study is to discover the correct principle according to biblical standards regarding the meaning of "who is my neighbor" and to clearly convey the Lord Jesus' intent and purpose in giving the parable in Luke 10:25-37 and its implications for the lives of believers today, so that the love of every believer can be expressed to everyone, without discrimination.

Abstract

This study departs from the reality that the concept of hierarchy remains the dominant pattern in various Christian organizations but is often understood within a framework of structural power that is not in harmony with Jesus' teachings on leadership in the Gospels. Matthew 20:20-28 presents a theological perspective that challenges conventional understandings of authority, greatness, and leadership through a redefinition of values in the Kingdom of God. Therefore, this study aims to theologically analyze the text of Matthew 20:20-28 and formulate its implications for the hierarchical paradigm in contemporary Christian leadership. The study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with a theological-exegetical analysis method that includes a study of the literary context of the Gospel of Matthew, a historical-social analysis of the first-century Mediterranean world, and a linguistic analysis of the Koine Greek text, particularly the terms ????????, ??????, and ??????????. Data was obtained through a literature study of the Bible as the primary source and academic literature as the secondary source, then analyzed interpretively and critically in dialogue with modern Christian leadership theory. The results of the study show that Jesus did not abolish the leadership structure but rather transformed the meaning of hierarchy from domination of power to responsibility for service. Greatness in the community of faith is determined by humility, devotion, and self-sacrifice rooted in the example of Christ as the Son of Man who came to serve. This study concludes that hierarchy in Christian leadership needs to be understood as a structure undergoing theological transformation, in which authority functions as a means of community service, not an instrument of domination, thus offering a conceptual contribution to the reconstruction of a more relational and Christological paradigm of church leadership.

Abstract

This study aims to examine Obadiah 1:10-14 exegetically in order to show that Edom's indifference to Judah's suffering was a form of passive violence that in the perspective of Old Testament ethics was understood as sin, while actualizing its meaning for the social context and life of the church today. Very rarely has research examined apathy as a major sin, read Edom's actions as a form of passive violence, or developed a category of prophetic ethics based on "not helping" as a theological offense. In the perspective of Old Testament prophetic ethics, how can Edomi's indifference to Judah's suffering be understood as a form of passive violence? This research uses a qualitative approach with a literature study method on the Book of Obadiah 1:1-21, a study of the concept of violence in theology, the integration of Old Testament ethics, and dialogue with contemporary situation. The findings of the study show that God's punishment of Edom is rooted in "passive violence" that manifests through the escalation of sin, ranging from standing at a distance (apathy), rejoicing over brother's calamity (violation of relationships), to active involvement in looting and refugee harassment (opportunism). In conclusion, indifference to the suffering of others is a form of passive evil that moves into activity, and will receive God's judgment according to the law of just retribution.
