Abstract

This research aims to verify many opinions and previous studies that stated how powerful of social media in building the image of a brand, also applies for university's brand image enhancement. Using explanatory survey research, data were collected by giving out questionnaires to samples that were taken randomly from Facebook's friend list of a private university that located in South Jakarta. The results showed that the most powerful influence occurs on the role of 'community' towards the brand identity and the role of 'connectivity' towards the brand benefits. Another interesting finding of this research is, it turns out 'openness' and 'conversation' has no significant effect on all components that make up the brand image. Thus, it can be said that the positive image on the mind of consumer audience regarding the brand identity, personality, association, attitude or behavior and the benefit offered by a university's brand not necessarily be formed by the openness and willingness to dialogue or make conversations. Keywords: Social Media, Facebook, UB, Brand Image, University's Brand Image

Abstract

In a free trade environment, the requirements to remain competitive become more demanding. The requirements make innovation more necessary to be done, and strongly associated with the ability to take advantage on scientific achievement. Therefore, innovation process conducted becomes an important determinant for its final outcome. Nevertheless, how innovation occurs in SMEs is still rather unknown exactly. This paper attempts to analyze innovation process in SMEs especially in low-technology sectors, particularly in food and beverage sector, in terms of sources of innovation which is related with sources of information and knowledge. This study use case study approach within two food and beverage SMEs. The innovation process is seen through the decision making process approach. This study reveal several important conclusions. In food and beverage sector, it appears that the process of innovation in the SMEs do not only involve the internal but also external parties. The process of innovation was still very simple. Generally, the approach in decision making and understanding of innovation is more static, non-rational, informal and hierarchical. Nevertheless, to complement the result, further studies still need to be conducted to obtain stronger justification of conclusions and policy recommendation. Keywords: innovation process, decision making, source of innovation, food and beverage sector, SME

Abstract

As the biggest automotive group producer in Indonesia, Astra Group maintains relationship with its suppliers extensively, in which suppliers with small and medium enterprises (SMEs) for motorcycle reach 94% while automobile for about 60%. The existing relationships create strong social capital and offer positive consequences for both parties. Using social capital theory, this study empirically tests the effect of social capital on knowledge sharing between buyer (Astra Group) and supplier as well as suppliers' performance. Further, this study argues that perceived interdependency to the buyer could moderate the effect of social capital on suppliers' performance. Based on a survey among 211 suppliers' of Astra Group, the results indicate that social capital mainly influences suppliers' performance. The moderating effect of interdependency is not confirmed in this study. Consistent with the developed hypotheses, relational social capital is developed by cognitive and structural social capital. Managerial and academic implications are presented in this study. Keywords: social capital, knowledge sharing, suppliers' performance, interdependency, Astra Group
