Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to analyze the impact of online reviews and promotions on customer retention of cosmetic products among students at the Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Bandar Lampung (FEB UBL), in the context of direct shopping on Shopee Mall. Methodology: A quantitative research method was used, with primary data collected through an online questionnaire distributed to 280 randomly selected respondents from a population of 936 students. The data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) with SmartPLS 4. Results: The results show that both online reviews and promotions significantly influence purchase decisions. However, customer retention is only directly affected by promotions and purchase decisions, while online reviews indirectly influence retention through purchase decisions. Findings: The study highlights that promotions play a more significant role in customer retention than online reviews, which only indirectly affect retention through their impact on purchase decisions. Novelty: This research contributes to digital marketing literature by focusing on the cosmetics industry and the role of online reviews and promotions in customer retention, particularly in an e-commerce context. Originality: The study is original in its focus on the cosmetics industry, particularly in relation to e-commerce platforms like Shopee Mall. Conclusions: The study recommends that businesses prioritize effective promotional strategies and ensure a positive shopping experience to enhance customer retention. Type of Paper: Empirical research paper.

Abstract

Purpose: This research investigates the effects of financial management strategies, specifically debt levels, intangible assets, and tangibility, on firm performance, measured by Return on Assets (ROA) and Tobin’s Q. It aims to delineate how these strategies influence operational efficiency and market valuation across various sectors. Methodology: Utilizing a quantitative approach, the study analyzes data from firms in infrastructure, media, and pharmaceutical sectors listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange over 2019-2023. A fixed effects model is applied to understand the impact of financial strategies on firm performance. Results: The study finds that higher debt levels negatively affect profitability but positively influence market valuation. Intangible assets enhance operational profitability but have a mixed impact on market valuation, indicating a market challenge in valuing these assets accurately. Conversely, tangibility increases profitability but is perceived negatively in market valuation. Findings: The differential impact of financial strategies suggests that firms need to balance their asset and debt management to optimize both profitability and market perception. Novelty and Originality: This research contributes new insights into the nuanced roles of asset management in financial strategy, emphasizing sector-specific financial management practices. It highlights the complex interplay between financial decisions and firm performance, providing a nuanced understanding that aids strategic financial planning. Conclusion: Effective financial management involves balancing debt, tangibility, and intangible assets to enhance firm performance across various metrics. Future research could explore these relationships under different economic conditions and extend findings across other sectors. Type of Paper: Research Article

Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to analyze how the adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI), self-confidence, and information quality influence the adoption of e-commerce and the marketing performance of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). Methodology: The research employed a survey method involving 222 MSME respondents in Palopo City. Data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) with the Partial Least Squares (PLS) approach, which is appropriate for evaluating complex inter-variable relationships and hypothesis testing. Results: The findings demonstrate that AI adoption, self-confidence, and information quality each have significant effects on e-commerce adoption and, subsequently, on marketing performance. AI enables automation and personalization; self-confidence drives willingness to adopt innovation; and high-quality information supports better decision-making. Findings: The study reveals that these three variables act as enablers of digital transformation for MSMEs, particularly in strengthening their marketing competitiveness through e-commerce. Novelty: This research integrates psychological (self-confidence), technological (AI adoption), and informational dimensions into a single predictive model for MSME digital adoption. Originality: The study offers a comprehensive approach to understanding MSMEs' readiness for e-commerce in a developing region, a topic still underexplored in empirical literature. Conclusion: Adopting AI, fostering self-confidence, and ensuring quality information are key to enhancing e-commerce use and marketing outcomes in MSMEs. Type of Paper: Empirical research paper.

Abstract

Purpose: This study aims to determine how exposure to social media advertising influences students' perceptions and attitudes toward privacy, and how these two factors are interrelated. Methodology: A quantitative approach was used through a questionnaire survey administered to 100 students in the Management Study Program at the University of Muhammadiyah Palopo. The variables analyzed include exposure to social media advertising, perceptions of privacy, and students' attitudes toward advertising on social media. Data were analyzed using statistical techniques with the support of the SmartPLS software. Results: The analysis revealed that exposure to social media advertising has a positive but statistically insignificant effect on students' attitudes. In contrast, perceptions of privacy were found to have a significant positive influence on students' attitudes. Findings: The study also identified a very strong relationship between advertising exposure and privacy perception, as reflected in an R-squared value of 0.865. This indicates that students' privacy perceptions act as a critical moderating factor in shaping attitudes toward social media advertising. Novelty: The research highlights the nuanced role of privacy perceptions in moderating advertising effects, an area that has been relatively underexplored in the context of student populations in Indonesian higher education. Originality: T his study contributes to the limited literature by empirically examining how privacy concerns interact with advertising exposure among university students in Indonesia, using SmartPLS as an analytical tool.. Conclusion: While direct exposure to social media advertising alone may not significantly influence student attitudes, students’ perceptions of privacy play a vital role in shaping their responses. Marketers and educators should therefore consider privacy concerns when designing digital advertising strategies. Type of Paper: Research Paper.
