Abstract

This paper examines the level of awareness and utilization of forensic linguistic services in the Nigeria justice dispensation system. It surveys the employment of forensic linguistic services during interrogation and cross-examination of crime suspects in Police stations and law courts, respectively, as well as the admissibility of forensic linguistic evidences in courts. Data for the study were gathered from security and legal personnel in police stations, law chambers and courts with questionnaires. Data analysis was done by a simple statistical method. The study finds that the level of awareness about Forensic Linguistics among police and other legal personnel is high, even though only a few of them have ever consulted or worked with any. They however submitted that forensic linguist' evaluation and advise are useful and will make their work easier, and that forensic linguistic evidences are admissible in the Nigerian courts. The study recommended, among others, that Forensic Linguistics programs should be established in Nigerian universities to enhance its practice of among the people.

Abstract

There is still much to learn about speakers’ similarities and differences in the field of Forensic Phonetics with respect to consonant acoustics. This article analyses of acoustic features of three sibilants /s, z, ʃ/ in British English. The analyses have been carried out on twenty male speakers from the DyViS corpus focusing on static features (intensity, centre of gravity, standard deviation, skewness and kurtosis) and dynamic features (centre of gravity depending on F2 vowel onset and offset) to see if they cue speaker-specific information. The results obtained demonstrate the high speaker-specificity of centre of gravity, standard deviation and intensity. However, we must be careful with intensity because it depends on the recording circumstances. As for skewness and kurtosis, they show speaker-specificity for /z/, but results are weaker the other two. This article has shown that spectral and acoustic properties of these three sibilants in English present promising results.

Abstract

This thesis is intended to analyze the implementation of the forensic method using voice recognition technique to analyze voice resemblance towards mobile phone’s voice recorder, by using Forensic audio method In Audio forensics: Theory and Analysis, namely Pitch Statistical Analysis, Forman and Bandwidth Statistical Analysis, Graphical Distribution Analysis and Spectogram Analysis. However, in this study, researchers only focus on identifying pitch and formants in the data to be analyzed. The aims of this study is to provide an example scenario the application of digital forensic techniques for voice pain recognizes Greetings compare the sound in the evidence and the sound suspect on mobile phone media with a voice case study woman. So it is hoped that the output of this research can become a reference or enrichment material for law enforcement agencies law and academics who wish to continue their research related to digital forensics. In doing on In this study, a Praat application was used to help with the audio comparison process from Known Samples and Unknown Sample. The results of each sample of digital evidence of native speakers' voices and recorded comparisons on the two assessment factors, namely Pitch and Formant, the researcher can't distinguish between the original speaker's voice and the comparison voice. The researcher can state that the accuracy of the pitch and formant analysis through Praat is very low and cannot be used as an indicator to distinguish that a date is correct as of the original voice, as evidenced by the results of the F0 value of the original voice data and the comparison obtained. Very flexible and inconsistent, some are the same, close to and even far from the F0 value of the subject data. This shows that everyone has a different pitch value because the intonation of each person's word pronunciation is different. It is possible that there are pitch values from several subjects that are almost the same.

Abstract

This research is aimed to analyze the comparison of the voice level through the pitch and formant identification on the Praat software. In addition, this research focuses on a simple case study that involves ten speakers of men, native and non-native, in pronouncing ten words containing vocals with the help of a PRAAT application to calculate the Pitch and Formant of speech. Technically, the research method used in obtaining a comparison of the pitch and formant of the ten speakers is descriptive-analysis by presenting data in the form of tables of numbers and graphs. This research involved one native speaker and ten non-native teacher to get comparable results. The data retrieval method uses PRAAT with audio files as the main data source. The results of this study indicate that the accuracy and the validity of comparison speakers are very low, Based on the sampling of voice data from ten speakers, it can be concluded that the value of pitch and formant are not consistent and can be applied to prove the native and non-native speaker.

Abstract

Nowadays, the advances of technology have affected all the aspects in human life, especially the existence of smartphone and computer, it is very helpful in the process of communication, education, and even forensic stuff. In this case, Praat program which can change the sound waves that used to be heard only now become visible to the human eye. In addition, the Praat program is equipped with tools to see the tone motion, the magnitude of the pause, the length of speech all of which are needed to determine the inaccuracy of an utterance or the error of the utterance. Therefore, this study is aimed to describe and to find put the utilization of praat in identifying the value of pitch and formant appropriately. This study use direct measurement method uses a laptop equipped with praat software. This method is technically based on Forensic audio method. Furthermore, the data was obtained form the audio-recorded which have derived from one native speaker and ten non-native speakers as comparison sounds. This study took ten words of Indonesian language of the utterance that has been determined by women, the results of the analysis found that in the utterance of Indonesian speakers all words consisting of some vowels and sometimes pause, sometimes there is no pause. Nevertheless, It was also found that there were differences in the presence values of pitch and formant although in the same word, vowel, and even same speakers’ gender.

Abstract

This study is aimed to analyze the characteristics of male voices recording by using PRAAT software. Technically, this study was conducted by using direct measurement method with the assistance a laptop equipped with PRAAT software. In addition, the data were collected from the sound of men which has recorded by using a recording application which is available on smartphone that has been connected to a laptop. The sample of men voices consist one native speaker and 3 non-native speakers from the range age 22 to 30 years old. The basic frequency values obtained from the voice recordings were compared between the voices of native and non-native speakers, the formant values were obtained and the duration of time required in pronunciation. As result, this study found that the average basic frequency value for men (native speaker) shows a value that is almost the same as the basic frequency value for non-native speakers, it is caused by the shape of the sound-producing organs and conditions when recording sound. The value of the first formant (F1) and the fourth formant (F4) in men (native speaker) very flexible can be lower, higher and even the same to the non-native speaker. Therefore, the value of pitch and formant and the spectrum which has shown on PRAAT do not show the consistency and validity of the data so that in-depth analysis is needed with the help of other supporting media.

Abstract

Audio forensics is one of the sciences that juxtaposes between science and scientific methods in the process of sound recording Audio Forensic Method: Analyze Voice Resemblance Towards Mobile Phone’s Voice Recorder, by using Forensic audio method In Audio forensics: Theory and Analysis, are Pitch Statistical Analysis, Formant and Bandwidth Statistical Analysis, Graphical Distribution Analysis and Spectogram Analysis. However, in this study, researchers only focus on identifying pitch and formants in the data to be analyzed. In doing on In this study, a Praat application was used to help with the audio comparison process from Known Samples and Unknown Sample. the results showed that Very clear results can be seen in words spoken with high intonation, while in words with low and medium intonation, the results of pitch analysis do not show significant differences. The words are pronounced with high intonation, while the original voice tends to be low, indicating the results of different formant values. So that it can be easily distinguished from the comparison voice which is on average high, very high, low or very low intonation. So it can be concluded that Digital voice forensic techniques can not do validation of evidence because there is no standard validation which is determined. Digital forensic techniques can only provide results from the sound similarity analysis of good evidence by the voice of the suspect

Abstract

Nowadays, technological developments have contributed to the sustainability of human life. Especially in the field of law or forensics which continues to evolve with the times. Sound recording evidence can show the identity of the person whose voice is recorded on the evidence by means of perform audio forensic examination for voice recognition. Therefore, this study is aimed to analyze the sounds by using the comparative method. Technically, this method is proposed to compare the sound of goods evidence with recorded sound for comparison. In this study, the analysis was limited to identify the value of voice recognition on the statistics of pitch and formant. If the results of voice recognition indicates that the voice of the conversation that is inside the evidence is identical to the voice of the perpetrator, then it can be concluded that the voice of the conversation inside the recorded evidence is the voice belonging to the perpetrator so that the voice record can be used as strong evidence in court. As conclusion, the difference between the voice of the original speaker and the voice of the comparison speaker are clearly shown in some parts of pitch and formant. On the other hand, there is no similarity of each word in value of pitch (F0) in the low, medium, and high voices of native speakers with non-native speakers. Thus, the indicators of the validity of the original sound proof (native speaker) look vague and can't even be proven
