Abstract

The low student attendance in Catholic Religious Education class indicates a challenge in fostering learning interest and the effectiveness of teaching methods. This study aims to analyze the influence of the reflective model and learning interest towards the outcomes of Catholic faith education among junior and senior high school students in Bengkulu city. The research employed a quantitative approach with a correlational design. The sample consists of 102 students selected purposively from a total of 144 students. Data was collected using a Likert scale questionnaire and analyzed through multiple regression using SPSS software. The results show that the reflective model does not have a significant effect on learning outcomes, while learning interest tends to have a positive influence, though not statistically significant. Simultaneously, these two variables do not significantly impact the outcomes of Catholic faith education. These findings confirm that the results of Catholic faith education are not solely determined by pedagogical factors but also by the depth of spiritual reflection and the motivation to teach in a more reflective, participatory manner that fosters a living faith experience aligned with the spirit of Evangelii Gaudium no. 11

Abstract

This study aims to understand parents' motivations in choosing Catholic schools as a means of fostering inclusive attitudes towards social differences in children, particularly in the context of Indonesia's multicultural society. This study used a qualitative approach with a narrative design. Meanwhile, purposeful sampling was used to select five parents of students involved in the study. In-depth interviews were conducted with parents of students at SMK Pius X Magelang, Central Java. The results of the study show that parents' motivation in choosing Catholic schools is not only because of their academic reputation, but also because of the values of discipline, morality, openness, and love that are instilled. However, there are challenges faced, such as relatively high education costs, issues of exclusivity, and concerns about Christianisation. However, Catholic schools are still considered capable of having a positive impact on children, especially in shaping integrity, creativity, and tolerance. These findings are in line with Durkheim's social structure theory, which emphasises the function of education in maintaining social order, as well as Freire's critical pedagogy theory, which emphasises dialogue, critical awareness, and liberation. Previous studies also reinforce that Catholic schools play an important role in instilling the values of pluralism and character education in a diverse society. Thus, Catholic schools have great potential as strategic partners for parents in building a generation that is superior, has integrity, and is inclusive.

Abstract

The background of this study is the increasing of exclusivism in religious education, which has led to a decline in students’ tolerant and inclusive attitudes. The purpose of this research is to assess the effectiveness of the Love-Based Curriculum in shaping a tolerant and inclusive generation. This research employed a library-based method by reviewing books, journals, and relevant scientific reports that discussed the relationship between love, education, and character formation. The data were analyzed using content analysis techniques to identify patterns of meaning and the relevance of love values in education. The findings indicated that the Love-Based Curriculum plays a strategic role in fostering interfaith human awareness and provides a conceptual contribution to the development of a humanistic model of religious education grounded in the values of love. The conclusion of this study is that love can transform into a pedagogical foundation in religious education to build tolerant and inclusive character. The research shows that when love is made a curriculum principle, it works not only as a moral value but also as a pedagogical mechanism capable of transcending religious and ideological barriers.

Abstract

This study defines ecotheology as a contextual educational paradigm. The paradigm is transformative and it aims to respond to the global climate crisis. The study focuses on Catholic religious higher education institutions in Indonesia. The study applied a conceptual-critical approach using multisite analysis across 13 Pastoral Colleges. The study explored theoretical foundations, pedagogical principles, institutional collaboration models, and designs ecotheological curriculum models that are locally relevant. The findings present ecotheology as a reflection of Christian faith. The reflection emphasizes the relationship between God, humanity, and creation. Ecotheology is implemented through three educational dimensions. The first dimension is scientific knowledge (episteme). The second dimension is moral-affective disposition (ethos). The third dimension is transformational practice (praxis). The implementation of ecotheological paradigms faces structural challenges. These challenges include curriculum fragmentation, limited resources, and conflicts among stakeholders. The study recommends educational policy reform, encourages sustainable and contextual educator capacity building, develop the holistic evaluation instruments. Theoretically, the study enriches the discourse on sustainable education. It introduces a normative dimension. This dimension links spirituality and ethics to ecological action. Practically, the study affirms the viability of ecotheology as a contextual educational paradigm. The paradigm shifts the focus of education. It moves from knowledge transfer to the formation of ecological change agents.

Abstract

Catholic religious education in Catholic Higher Education Institutions (PTAK) plays a strategic role in shaping transformative human resources (HR) amid contemporary challenges. The background of this study arises from the need for HR who are not only intellectually competent but also possess spiritual depth, moral integrity, and a service-oriented mindset. The purpose of this research is to examine how Catholic religious education integrates spirituality and personal development in the formation process of students. Using a qualitative-descriptive approach, data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation studies at Sekolah Tinggi Pastoral Atma Reksa Ende. The findings reveal that Catholic religious education, when contextualized and grounded in Gospel values, is capable of shaping students’ character to be reflective, ethical, and service-ready. The integration of spirituality into the curriculum and campus life strengthens intrinsic motivation, work ethic, and transformative leadership. The conclusion of this study affirms that Catholic religious education makes a significant contribution to the formation of holistic and transformative human resources. The implication is that formation strategies in PTAK must continue to be developed holistically in order to meet the ongoing needs of the Church, society, and the nation.

Abstract

This study examines the intersection of catechesis and ecotheology, a movement promoting a harmonious relationship between God, humanity, and the environment. This alignment is particularly timely, given the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs' 2025 Priority Program aimed at addressing the ecological crisis. Identifying the root of environmental degradation as an anthropocentric worldview that fosters nature’s exploitation, this research advocates for a shift toward a partnership model. Central to this transition is the 2020 Directory for Catechesis (DC), which introduces a novel focus on ecological responsibility in articles 381–384—a theme notably absent in previous directories. Utilizing a qualitative content analysis of the DC 2020 and contemporary literature, the study categorizes and interprets key themes to determine how catechesis reinforces ecotheology. The findings reveal a dual contribution: theoretical and practical. Theoretically, catechesis bolsters the biblical foundations of ecotheology and facilitates a mental shift away from anthropocentrism. Practically, it encourages the habituation of environmentally friendly behaviors and the development of ecological catechetical programs. Ultimately, the study concludes that catechesis is a vital pastoral pathway for fostering spiritual consciousness and sustainable lifestyles. By enriching the discourse on ecotheology through a pastoral lens, this research highlights catechesis as an essential tool for both internal mentality change and concrete environmental action.
