Abstract

The infection of Diplodia sp. Fungi on tangerine (Citrus nobilis) causes the surface of main trunk or branches to dry up. Generally, the effort of controlling disease on plants is done by the use of synthethic pesticidies that have negative impact, so that it should be mitigated and the use of botanical pesticides should be promoted. The aim of this study was to determine the antifungal activity of methanol extract of    P. serratifolia leaves toward the growth of Diplodia sp. fungi. The completely randomized design (CRD) was used on this study with 6 treatments which were control, DMSO, the extract concentrations of 25%,50%, 75%, and 100%. The result showed that the methanol extract of Premna leaves significantly affecting the growth of Diplodia sp. fungi. The concentration of 100% was the one to produce the highest inhibition percentage on Diplodia sp. fungi growth, which reached 93,31% with very strong activity.

Abstract

The sellers in Flamboyan market Pontianak sell the sausages without freezing box. This could trigger the growth of pathogen bacteria on the sausages. The aims of this research was to know the safety level of chicken sausages in Flamboyan market based on the amount of Coliform, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Salmonella sp. Samples of chicken sausages were randomly taken from 4 sellers as many as 12 packs. The samples were kept in room temperature (28C-30C) for 1 day, 3 days and 5 days. The amount of bacteria was calculated by using Most Probably Number and Total Plate Count methods. The result showed that there were changes on the color, the taste and the texture of chicken sausages at 3rd and 5th day. The number of bacteria from day 1 until day 5 is less than SNI (7388:2009), that was < 1 105 CFU/g. The number of S. aureus and MPN value of Coliform and E. coli from day 1 until day 5 was more than SNI (7388:2009), that was > 1 102 CFU/g, > 10 MPN/g and > 3 MPN/g, respectively. It is also known that chicken sausages positively contained Salmonella sp. in every 25g samples.

Abstract

The frequency of green turtle (Chelonia mydas) landing is largely determined by the environmental conditions and human activities in a coastal area. This research aims to determine the frequency of landings, the number ofC. mydas at every landing time and the landing periods ofthehighest frequency ofC. mydas occurring in Tanjung Kemuning beach, Tanjung Api beach, and Belacan beach. The research was conducted by using direct observation in the field. The surveyrevealed that the frequency of C. mydas in beach landings in Belacan beach, Tanjung Kemuning beach, and Tanjung Api beach during the period from July to September 2013, is between 35.88% and 100 %. The numbers ofC. mydaslanded inBelacan beach, Tanjung Kemuning beach, and Tanjung Api beach are 20 - 28 individuals, 144-235 individuals and 107-183 individuals res pectively. Landing highest reached at 19:00 pm - 22:00 pm and 23:00 pm - 2:00 am. The environmental conditions in Tanjung Kemuning beach, Tanjung Api beach, and Belacan beach is able to support the landing activities of C. mydas.

Abstract

Paddy frogs ( F. cancrivora ) is one the member of the Class Amphibia Order Anura which is important ecologically and economically. This study aims to investigate the characteristics of paddy frog populations (F. cancrivora) which include density, sex ratio, fecundity and gonad maturity level (GML) . The study was conducted from August to September 2013 in the paddy field of Sugai Raya, Kubu Raya Regency in West Kalimantan province. The sampling method was plot method with the size of 20x20 m in wich the samples was directly captured with bare hand. The density of F. cancrivora in paddy fields of Sungai Raya in Kubu Raya regency is 1.01 individuals/m2. The sex ratio of male and female F. cancrivora is 1 : 1.8. Female F. cancrivora can produce 4,808-18,260 eggs in one spawning. F. cancrivora with the body of 5.5 cm in length has entered phase IV of gonad maturity level. The temperature around the site ranged from 240 to 260C and humidity was 65 %. These are good conditions for the development and reproduction of F. cancrivora.

Abstract

Pongo pygmaeus pygmaeus constitutes one of Borneo orangutan subspecies. Orangutans are arboreal animals that utilitize twigs and branches to build a nest. Scientific informations related to subspecies P. p. pygmaeus are considered remarkably rare. The aim of this study was to determine the characteristics of P. p. pygmaeus nesting tree and nest. This study was conducted from April to July 2013, at Peninjau Hill, Kapuas Hulu. Data collection method used in this study was line transect method. The parameters observed were the height of nesting tree, nest height, nest position, nest class and the type of nesting tree. The nesting tree height of  P. p. pygmaeus in Peninjau Hill ranged from 5 m to 39 m with the nest hight ranged from     3 m – 37 m. Generally, the position of nest is at position 2 with nest class mostly in class 4. The nest height significantly corresponds to tree height. Nesting trees consist of 42 trees genera dominated by Santiria. Trees of Dipterocarpaceae family dominate as the nesting tree of orangutan in Peninjau Hill. As much as 46,53% of nesting tree of P. p. pygmaeus also serves as feeding tree.

Abstract

Ferns (Pteridophyta) have an important role in forest ecosystems, but the destruction of the forest decreased the amount of ferns. The existences of ferns in the forest are in danger due to gold mining, logging and forest fires. This study was conducted to investigate ferns diversity in Mandor Nature Reserve in Landak Regency. The study was done for 4 months from July to November 2012. Cruise Method was used to explore ferns within the nature reserve. The study found that there were 21 species consisting of 1 class and 14 families. Polypodiaceae family is the most commonly found, while Aspleniaceae, Blechnaceae, Davalliaceae, Dennstaedtiaceae, Dryopteridaceae, Gleicheniacea, Lindsaeaceae, Lycopodiaceae, Lygodiaceae, Nephrolepidaceae, Pteridaceae, Selaginellaceae and Woodsiaceae were not common in the nature reserve.
