Abstract

Sea urchins belong to the class Echinoidea. This species lives in intertidal waters. This research aims to determine the species composition of sea urchins in the intertidal area of Lemukutan Island. The research was conducted in July 2015, using the transect method. Each station consisted of 3 transects with a length of 50 meters from the shore into the sea and each transect within 10 meters of the other transects. This research obtained four species consisting of three species of the genus Diadema and one species of the genus Echinotrix (Diadema antillarium, D. savignyi, D. setosum and Echinotrix calamaris). The species of sea urchins most commonly found are the species D. setosum as many as 147 individuals, while the least found were the species D. antillarium as many as five individuals.

Abstract

Red tilapia (Oreochromis sp.) are cultured in floating cages of the Kapuas River in Kapur Village can be infected with ectoparasites, especially on the gills. This study aims to determine the types, prevalence and intensity of ectoparasites on the gills of red tilapia in floating cages of the Kapuas River in Kapur Village of Kubu Raya Regency. The samples were taken in April 2016 by random sampling method. The fish as many as 100 individuals were taken randomly from the floating cages in five locations. Ectoparasites were found consisting of two types which are members of the Class Monogenea, namely Dactylogyrus sp. and Gyrodactylus sp. The ectoparasite Dactylogyrus sp. mostly infected the red tilapia gills with the value of the average prevalence of 90% (infection category of almost always) and the value of the average intensity of 3.97 ind/individual. The Gyrodactylus sp. found on the gills had a value of the average prevalence of 49% (infection category of commonly) and the average intensity value of 1.76 ind/individual.

Abstract

Sensitive plant (Mimosa pudica) is one of weeds that may cause harm to cultivated plants, both in terms of quantity and quality of production. Climbing hempweed (Mikania micrantha) has alelokimia compounds in form of phenol, terpenoids and flavonoids that can be used as bioherbisida. This study was aimed to determine the concentration of Climbing hempweed leaf (M. micrantha) extract to inhibit the germination and growth of Sensitive Plant (M. pudica). This research was conducted in February to April 2016 in Biology Department Screenhouse, Faculty of Science and Mathematics and Wood Technology Laboratory, Faculty of Forestry, Tanjungpura University, Pontianak. The study used completely randomized design which was consisted of 5 treatments and 5 replicates, the total were 25 units of trial. The climbing weed extract used as control were 0.1; 0.3; 0.5 and 0.7 g/ ml. The results showed that the extract with  a concentration of 0.5 g / ml could inhibit the germination percentage and length of sensitive plant (M. pudica). M. micrantha leaf extract at a concentration of 0.3 g / ml could inhibit the growth such as the height, root length, wet weight, and dry weight of sensitive plant.

Abstract

Scylla spp. live in association with the mangrove forest. A damaged or loss of mangrove forest ecosystems will affect the mangrove crab population. This research aims to determine the types, morphometry and characteristics of mangrove crabs in the mangrove forest of Mutusan Estuary, Sambas Regency. The research was carried out from April to June 2015. The research obtained two species i.e., S. paramamosain and S. serrata. The species S. paramamosain has an average weight (W) of 138.13 g with an average carapace width (CW) of 95.42 mm, an average frontal margin width (FMW) of 27.97 mm and an average chela length (CL) of 57.45 mm. The species S. serrata has an average weight (W) of 212.82 g with a carapace width (CW) of 205.14 mm, an average frontal margin width (FMW) of 28.42 mm and an average length of chela (CL) of 67.11 mm. Based on the size of carapace width (CW), the Scyla spp. of young phase dominates the mangrove crab population in the mangrove forests of Mutusan Estuary, Sambas Regency.

Abstract

Bornean slow loris (Nycticebus menagensis) are endemic to Borneo. Slow loris that live outside conservation area has high potential of disturbance, because lacking of protection. One habitat outside conservation area is Tenguwe Village, Air Besar Subdistrict, Landak Regency. This study aims to obtain information on plants and plant parts used by slow loris as a food source and a sleeping site. The research was conducted in March to April 2016. The methods used were semi-structured interviews and surveys of existence. Interviews were conducted to obtain information on the existence of slow loris, plant food resources and sleeping sites. The respondents interviewed were selected using a snowball sampling technique. The results of the interviews were followed up by conducting survey in the forest. Data were analyzed descriptively. The research obtained 32 species of 17 families of plants potentially as food and 4 species of 4 families of plants potentially as for sleeping sites. The results also show that slow loris at Tenguwe village are hunted for food, pets and sold. The slow loris found were two individuals in two different locations namely Sengabu and Bejawi.

Abstract

The vegetation habitat of borneo slow loris in West Kalimantan has quite high potential for damage due to anthropogenic influences. The study aims to find out about the composition, structure and habitat vegetation profile of borneo slow loris at the release area of IAR Indonesia in Tarak Mountain Protection Forest. The data were collected from March to May 2016, by making plot transect. There were two transects consisting of three plots the size of 20 x 20m with four squared plots. The vegetation observed were trees, poles, saplings, seedlings and floor coverings. The data taken were the local and scientific names, number of individuals and habitus. The analysis was conducted on the density, relative density, frequency, relative frequency, dominance, relative dominance, Important Value Index (IVI), Diversity Index (H’) and dominance index (C’). The profile data taken were the position of trees, height of trees, height of first branching, DBH, crown cover, gap and stratification. The results of research showed that the vegetation composition comprised of 23 species of plants. The structure of the vegetation showed the highest IVI of tree regeneration i.e. Syzygium cuminii (117.14%) and the floor covering i.e. Piper crocatum (200%), H’ tree regeneration from 1.47 to 2.55, and floor coverings 0.00, C’ tree regeneration 0. 09 to 0.26 and floor coverings 1.00. The vegetation structure is composed of five strata, there is a vertical gap (± 1 m) and a horizontal gap (>2 m).

The purpose of this study was to determine the species of Rotifera in the Kakap River Estuary. This study was conducted in May to August 2015. The sampling location was divided into seven stations, each station was divided into three sampling points, and each point of sampling was repeated three times. The research found 73 species of Rotifera belong to 14 genera (Anuraeopsis, Brachionus, Keratella, Beauchampiella, Euchlanis, Cephalodella, Colurella, Lepadella,Habrotrocha, Lecane, Philodina, Polyarthra, Trichocerca, and Testudinella). Lecane was the most common genera species found of all stations with a number of 33 species.

Abstract

The Gastropodsis the most members of the phylum Mollusca and is most prevalent of aquatic and terrestrial habitats. This research aims to identify the Gastropods found in the mangrove forest area of Kuala Baru River Estuary. The research was carried out from January to March 2016. The Gastropods collected included treefauna, epifauna and infauna. The Gastropods of treefauna and epifauna were collected using the square transect method and the Gastropodsof infauna using hand sorting method. There were 12 genera of Gastropods found belonging to 9 families i.e. Ellobiidae, Potamididae, Neritidae, Ampullariidae, Pomatiopsidae, Littorinidae, Strombidae, Nassariidae and Olividae. The Ellobiidae are the mostmembers that often found in the mangrove forest area of Kuala Baru River Estuary. There were only four genera of Gastropods which were found in more than one station i.e.the Cassidula as many as 167 individuals, Pythia 21 individuals, Cerithidea 19 individuals and Terebralia 209 individuals. The Gastropods most commonly found each station is epifauna.
