Abstract

Rheumatism is a condition marked by joint inflammation, swelling, and pain, often causing limitations in daily activities and decreasing productivity. Prolonged symptoms, especially over 10 years, may lead to joint damage, making patients reliant on others and impacting their social and economic functioning. This study aims to examine the effect of rheumatic exercises on pain levels among rheumatic patients in the Kalijudan Public Health Center area, Surabaya. The research employed a pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design involving 31 participants selected through purposive sampling. Rheumatic exercises were the independent variable, while pain levels were the dependent variable, measured using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS). The data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test with a significance level set at p<0.05. The results showed a Wilcoxon test value of 0.000, indicating a statistically significant difference in pain levels before and after the intervention. These findings demonstrate that rheumatic exercises effectively reduce pain in rheumatic patients. The study concludes that implementing rheumatic exercise programs can be a beneficial non-pharmacological intervention to manage pain in patients with rheumatism, particularly in community health settings like the Kalijudan Public Health Center.

Abstract

Anemia is a major health problem in adolescent girls that can have an impact on learning achievement, productivity, and overall health. One of the interventions carried out to reduce the prevalence of anemia is the administration of blood supplement tablets (TTD). However, the compliance rate of TTD consumption among adolescent girls is still low. This study seeks to examine the impact of educational interventions utilizing animated video media on the awareness and adherence to Fe tablet consumption for the prevention of anemia among adolescent girls at SMP Negeri 3 Bojonegoro. The research employs a pre-experimental methodology characterized by a one-group pre-test post-test design. The sampling technique implemented was cluster sampling, with a total of 55 adolescents serving as participants. The results showed that education with animated video media significantly increased knowledge and compliance with TTD consumption with a p-value of 0.000 and 0.004. Before being educated, most of the respondents had a low level of knowledge and compliance with TTD consumption. After being educated, there was an increase in the knowledge aspect by 69% and an increase in the compliance aspect by 62%. Thus, education using animated video media has proven to be effective in increasing the knowledge and adherence of young women to TTD consumption and can be used as a good learning medium for young women at junior high school age. While the findings are promising, the single-group design and limited setting highlight the need for future studies using more rigorous experimental methods and broader population coverage.

Abstract

Frontotemporal lobar degeneration (FTLD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease marked by distinct histological hallmarks, including Pick bodies. Manual identification is time-consuming, subjective, and requires expert neuropathologists. This study developed a convolutional neural network (CNN) for the automated detection of Pick bodies in histological images of FTLD. The model achieved 86.3% accuracy, 89.0% recall, and 0.91 ROC AUC, demonstrating its potential for objective and scalable identification of FTLD-related histopathological features, with applications for clinical diagnosis. Inference time per image was 0.042 seconds. Pixel density analysis revealed a significant difference between positive (mean 59.8) and negative (mean 47.3) regions. These findings support the feasibility of deep learning in neuropathology, enabling objective and scalable identification of FTLD-related changes. This approach offers potential for clinical integration, accelerated diagnosis, and expansion to other neurodegenerative disorders.

Abstract

Dysmenorrhea is a common menstrual pain complaint experienced by adolescent girls and can interfere with learning activities and overall quality of life. The management of dysmenorrhea encompasses not only pharmacological interventions but also non-pharmacological strategies, which are regarded as safer alternatives with minimal adverse effects. Among such approaches, physical therapy including abdominal stretching and effleurage massage has garnered attention. This study aims to evaluate the efficacy of abdominal stretching and effleurage massage in alleviating dysmenorrhea among adolescent girls. The research design employed was a pre-experimental method utilizing a two-group pretest-posttest framework, consisting of two intervention groups without a control group. A total of 32 female students from Muhammadiyah 10 Senior High School Surabaya who experienced dysmenorrhea were selected using purposive sampling. The results showed a significant decrease in pain scale before and after the intervention in both groups. The group receiving effleurage massage showed a faster reduction in pain intensity compared to the abdominal stretching group. The average pain scale after treatment decreased significantly in both groups. Respondents reported feelings of relaxation and comfort after the intervention. No side effects were found during or after the therapy. Effleurage massage yielded more effective results in a shorter time. In conclusion, abdominal stretching and effleurage massage are effective in reducing dysmenorrhea in adolescent girls. These therapies can serve as safe and practical non-pharmacological treatment alternatives. This study is expected to be a reference for healthcare professionals and educators in providing education and holistic management of menstrual pain in adolescents.

Abstract

Gout was still one of the chronic disease trends suffered by the community which was characterised by elevated uric acid levels. This condition is closely related to lifestyle, namely the consumption of purine-rich foods. However, there were not studies that discovered the relationship between purine-rich food intake with elevated uric acid levels. This study aims to analyse the relationship between purine-rich food intake with elevated uric acid levels. This study used a correlational design with a cross-sectional approach. The population was the community in village "x" who suffered from gout with a total of 70 people. From them, 66 people were selected as participants who met the inclusion criteria through a purposive sampling method. The instrument used was a questionnaire for the variable of purine-rich food intake and uric acid test with a GCU meter. The results showed that there was a strong positive correlation between purine-rich food intake with elevated uric acid levels (p = 0,000; r = 0,567), this is evidenced by the fact that the majority of participants with high uric acid levels had a history of consuming purine-rich foods exceeding the daily tolerance limit, whereas low or normal uric acid levels were found in participants with a history of consuming high purine foods below the threshold or even not consuming purine-rich foods. These results indicated that consuming purine-rich foods could have a significant impact on elevated uric acid levels, so it was necessary to reduce or limit daily purine food intake.
