Abstract

This study was conducted to address the low level of students' skills in performing operations with integers. This issue arose because, since the Covid-19 pandemic, many elementary school students have experienced learning loss, which has impacted their learning processes upon entering secondary school. Therefore, to optimize classroom learning time, students were also provided with opportunities for independent learning using interactive instructional materials. This study employed a quantitative development method using the ADDIE model and involved 50 seventh-grade students from SMPN 1 Lembah Bawang and SMPN 3 Lembah Bawang. Data collection techniques included tests and interviews using questionnaires. The collected data were analyzed by comparing pre-test and post-test results, as well as calculating effect size to determine the extent of influence after using the instructional materials. The study resulted in the development of instructional materials validated by experts and shown to improve students' skills in integer operations. After using the developed materials, more than 50% of students demonstrated high proficiency in operating integers, compared to 66% who had low proficiency beforehand. The resulting effect sizes after using the instructional materials were categorized as medium (d = 0.7) and high (d = 1.0). It can thus be concluded that the developed instructional materials effectively enhance students"™ skills in performing integer operations and are suitable for production and use in secondary schools.

Abstract

Students at SMAN 1 Singosari continue to demonstrate limited problem-solving skills and cognitive learning outcomes, partly due to contextually irrelevant media and reliance on LCD projectors. This study aimed to evaluate the validity and practicality of "Digestopia", an audiovisual, website-assisted electronic board game developed using the RICOSRE model (Reading, Identifying problem, Constructing solution, Solving the problem, Reviewing the problem solving, and Extending problem solution) and integrated with the SDGs' Zero Hunger initiative (Sustainable Development Goal 2: Zero Hunger). The development process adopted the Lee and Owens instructional design model, which consists of four stages: analysis, design, development, and evaluation. Data were collected using expert validation sheets and student response questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive quantitative techniques to determine the average scores. The results showed that "Digestopia" was valid (90.6%) and practical (86.7%) for classroom use, indicating its potential as an interactive learning tool.

Abstract

This study aims to describe students' mathematical representation ability in solving literacy integration problems. The description is based on indicators of mathematical representation, namely verbal representation, pictorial representation, and symbolic representation. This research used a qualitative descriptive approach and was conducted on class VIII students totaling 28 students. Of these, three students were selected as research subjects who represented high, medium, and low ability categories, using purposive sampling technique. Data were collected through mathematical representation test sheets and interviews. The results showed that students with high mathematical representation ability could use all three forms of representation effectively, while students with moderate ability tended to be inconsistent in using representations that only met 2 indicators. Meanwhile, low ability students had difficulty in connecting representations and needed additional guidance on all indicators. These findings highlight the importance of problem-based learning and interactive media to improve students' mathematical representation ability. Further research is recommended to analyze the relationship between reading literacy and mathematical representation and develop literacy-based learning models to be better implemented at various levels of education.

Abstract

Scientific argumentation skills are essential skills in 21st-century learning, especially in dealing with complex socioscientific issues. However, the diversity of students' abilities in multilevel classes often poses a challenge in designing inclusive learning. This study explores the role of teacher interventions in developing students' argumentation skills related to socioscientific issues in multilevel classes. Using a case study design with mixed approach methods), this study involved 7th-grade students from public junior high schools and 8th-grade students from religious-based junior high schools in Ponorogo city and involved 2 teachers who taught in their classes. Interventions based on Toulmin's argumentation structure and socioscientific issues were conducted to improve students' abilities in tiered classes. The results showed that although there was no significant increase in students' argumentation understanding based on pre-test and post-test scores, there was a significant increase in students' argumentation levels. Teachers succeeded in creating a supportive learning environment through contextual approaches, group discussions, and scaffolding, which effectively improved students' argumentation skills in tiered classes. Constraints such as time constraints, language barriers, and access to technology were identified as factors that influenced learning outcomes in developing students' argumentation skills. This study emphasizes the importance of planned teacher intervention strategies to support students' argumentation development in tiered classes with varying student ability levels.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a valid and practical PIAAC Framework-based Learning E-Module on global warming material for senior high school. This E-Module is designed not only to convey knowledge about global warming, but also to train literacy, numeracy, and problem solving which are very important in the 21st century. This study used the development research approach by following the flow of the Rowntree Development model and using Tessmer's formative evaluation stages, namely self-evaluation, expert review, one-to-one evaluation, and small group evaluation. The evaluation results show that the E-Module obtained a validity score of 97.96% from the expert, which is included in the very valid category. In addition, the results of one-to-one evaluation and small group evaluation showed a score of 91% and 90.77%, which is included in the very practical category. This research is expected to make a positive contribution in learning about global warming and increasing students' awareness of environmental issues, as well as providing flexible learning alternatives that can be accessed through digital devices.

Abstract

Mathematical reflective thinking ability is a thinking ability that involves the process of connecting existing knowledge with new knowledge to solve problems by identifying problems, evaluating, concluding, and making decisions to find the best solution to the problems faced. Mathematical reflective thinking ability has an important role for teachers and students in mathematics learning that focuses on problem solving. However, in reality, many students still have difficulty reflecting on their thinking processes when solving mathematical problems. Therefore, it is necessary to implement a learning model that actively involves students in activities and focuses on solving mathematical problems, one of which is the guided inquiry model. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the Guided inquiry learning model on students' mathematical reflective thinking abilities. The research method used was a quasi-experimental study. The population in this study were all eighth-grade students of SMP Negeri 7 Bandar Lampung in the even semester of the 2024/2025 academic year with a sample of 30 students in grades VIII.8 and VIII.9 selected using a purposive sampling technique. The research design used was a posttest only control group design. The data in this study were quantitative data obtained from a mathematical reflective thinking ability test. Data analysis in this study used a statistical test, namely the t-test. The results showed that the mathematical reflective thinking ability of students who followed the guided inquiry learning model was higher than the mathematical reflective thinking ability of students who followed conventional learning. Thus, the guided inquiry learning model influenced students' mathematical reflective thinking ability.

Abstract

Rubber wastewater contains total ammonia nitrogen (TAN) at levels that can potentially cause pollution if discharged into water bodies without proper treatment. TAN content is one of the commonly used parameters for assessing water quality. Certain groups of bacteria are capable of naturally degrading TAN in the environment. This study aimed to isolate bacteria from rubber wastewater, evaluate their potential to degrade TAN, and identify the most effective isolate at the molecular level. Samples were collected from wastewater treatment ponds using random purposive sampling based on specific criteria. A survey method was used to determine sampling locations, while experimental methods were applied in the laboratory. Bacterial isolation was conducted using the serial dilution technique, followed by inoculation with the pour plate technique. Pure isolates were obtained using the streak plate technique. The degradation potential of the bacterial isolates was tested by inoculating 10% v/v of each isolate into 200 mL of rubber wastewater, followed by incubation at room temperature for six days. TAN levels were analyzed using the phenate method with a spectrophotometer, following the Indonesian National Standard SNI 06-6989.30-2005. Three bacterial isolates (NS-1, NS-2, and NB-1) were obtained from the rubber wastewater. All three isolates demonstrated potential in reducing TAN levels, with final TAN concentrations after incubation ranging from 6.75 to 4.8 mg/L, corresponding to a reduction of 52.50"“66.90%. The most effective isolate in reducing TAN was NS-2. Molecular identification using the PCR-seq method of the 16S rRNA gene revealed that isolate NS-2 showed 99.86"“99.93% sequence identity with Enterobacter sp. This study provides a basis for the development of bioremediation technologies for rubber wastewater treatment to improve aquatic environmental quality.

Abstract

This study aims to develop and test the validity and effectiveness of ethnoscience-based chemistry learning devices on redox material and chemical compound nomenclature to improve science literacy and critical thinking skills of students. This research uses the 4D development model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate). The learning devices developed include teaching modules, learning materials, and student worksheets. The research subjects were 34 class XII students at MAN Wonogiri. The findings show that: (1) The learning devices were declared very valid by expert validators with scores of 91.15% for teaching modules, 91.82% for LKPD, 93.20% for teaching materials, and 22.5 (scale 25) for question instruments, (2) Practitioner validators also declared the devices very valid with scores of 90.72% for teaching modules, 92.73% for LKPD, 94.00% for teaching materials, and 23.5 (scale 25) for question instruments, (3) The reliability and validity tests showed Cronbach Alpha values of 0.749 and 0.921 for science literacy and critical thinking instruments respectively, (4) The learning devices are effective with N-gain values of 0.6103 for science literacy and 0.6501 for critical thinking skills, both in moderate category. The ethnoscience-based learning tools developed are valid and effective to improve students' science literacy and critical thinking skills.

Abstract

Numeracy ability is the ability to think logically and systematically in solving contextual problems based on data and numbers. However, students' numeracy ability in Indonesia, including in Central Java, is still relatively low. This study aims to determine the relationship between self-efficacy and mathematical connection ability simultaneously on students' numeracy ability on the material of arithmetic sequences and series in class X MANU 3 Ittihad Bahari Bonang Demak. This study uses a quantitative approach with a correlational method. The research sample was taken using a cluster random sampling technique, and two classes were obtained, namely class X.1 and X.2. The research instruments were in the form of a self-efficacy questionnaire and a descriptive test to measure mathematical connection and numeracy abilities. Data analysis was carried out using multiple linear regression tests using SPSS 25. The results of the study showed that there was a significant positive relationship simultaneously between self-efficacy and mathematical connection ability on students' numeracy abilities, with a coefficient of determination (R ²) value of 0.599. This means that the two independent variables contributed 59.9% to students' numeracy skills, while 40.1% was influenced by other factors. These results indicate the importance of the role of self-efficacy and mathematical connections in improving students' numeracy skills, as well as being the basis for further research to examine other factors that contribute to the development of numeracy skills.

Abstract

The purpose of the study was to determine the implementation of learning with the STEM approach to improving students' mathematization skills. The STEM approach includes science, technology, engineering, and mathematics in real context. The study population was all VIII grade students of SMP Negeri 33 Bandarlampung in the odd semester of the 2024/2025 academic year which were distributed in six classes, namely VIII A to VIII F heterogeneously. Sampling was done using cluster random sampling technique, VIII E class consisting of 32 students was selected as the experimental class and VIII D class consisting of 32 students as the control class. The research design used was pretest-posttest control group design. The data of this research is quantitative data obtained from the students' mathematization skills test. The test consists of three descriptive questions that have been tested and meet the validity and reliability criteria. Based on data analysis using Mann-Whitney U test, it was concluded that the improvement of mathematization skills of students who participated in learning with STEM learning was higher than the improvement of mathematization skills of students who participated in conventional learning. Thus, the implementation of STEM learning can improve students' mathematization skills.
