In conducting the research, the researcher used two theories as the framework of the study. The first theories used by Worde (2003) and the second theory was from Rajitha Alamelu (2019).  The researcher analysed this data using descriptive qualitative. The results of this research found that there were some influential factors that contribute to the students' anxiety in speaking English namely: speaking activities, inability to comprehend, pedagogical practices, error correction, fear of negative evaluation, external factors and internal factors. Meanwhile, several strategies from Kondo and Ying-Ling (2004)used toreduce students' anxiety in learning foreign languages, especially when appearing in front of the class, are preparation, relaxation, positive thinking, making friends, and resigning. Therefore, students are expected to be able to minimize their anxiety and improve their English skills.

Abstract

Speaking is a verbal skill that plays an important role in language learning. However, during the internship, the writer found that the students faced some difficultiesin speaking English. Bamboo dancing technique is one of cooperative learning methods that is said to be effective in teaching speaking. Thus, the writer was eager to conduct a library study on the effectiveness of bamboo dancing in improving students’ speaking skill. Previous studies on bamboo dancing technique are the primary data for the writer to determine the effectiveness of the technique. The writer took five sources to be used as references, namely; Suprijono (2010), Ma’ruf Rahim (2013), Wahyuni (2015), Pitanto (2016), and IsnaeniNurdiawati (2017). The result of this study indicates that bamboo dancing technique is effective in improving students’ speaking skill. The result is supported by the data from the classroom observation, the questionnaire, and the students’ mean score of the previous studies. As bamboo dancing technique may take some time to complete, it is better applied in a small class. The next study on bamboo dancing technique should investigate the appropriate application of the technique itself. To conclude, bamboo dancing technique is effective to improve students’ achievement in speaking skill and to help teachers in creating a fun learning environment.

This study belongs to descriptive qualitative research and used content analysis method to analyzed main character’s utterances. Of the 5 (five) types of language styles based on Joos’s (1976) theory (frozen, formal, consultative, casual, and intimate style), all of them were found in the object of the study. Moreover, there are 4 (four) factors that influenced main character’s language styles namely setting, function, topic, and participant. The type of language style that was mostly used by main character was casual style which mostly influenced by participant factor. The findings showed that Dito used casual style frequently because most of the conversation occured in the movie was between Dito which is the main character of the movie and his bestfriend Uca which is presented in a relaxed and casual situation. Finally, the writer suggests the next researchers to investigate further study of language style in the real community and to explore the newest theories of language styles to gain more understanding for the further research about language style.
