Abstract

Eucalyptus plants can be propagated vegetatively by shoot cuttings. One of the natural growth regulators that can be used to stimulate the growth of Eucalyptus shoot cuttings was shallot extract (EBM), which contains the hormone auxin which functions to stimulate plant growth. This study aims to determine the effect of EBM with various different concentrations on the growth of Eucalyptus shoot cuttings (Melaleuca leucadendron L.). Completely Randomized Design (CRD) was used in this experiment, with five treatments, with four replicates for each treatment. The concentrations used in the treatment were as follows: K- Eucalyptus shoot cuttings without EBM or NAA., K+ Positive control, Eucalyptus shoot cuttings with NAA hormone., K1 Eucalyptus shoot cuttings with 50% EBM concentration. K2 Eucalyptus shoot cuttings with EBM concentration of 60%. K3 Eucalyptus shoot cuttings with EBM concentration of 70%. Parameters observed included the number of roots, root length, root fresh weight, and number of leaves. The results of this experiment showed that the concentration of 70% EBM gave the best results on the growth of shoot cuttings of Eucalyptus (Melaleuca leucadendron L.), in number of roots (7,250 pieces), root length (13,625 cm), root fresh weight (0,560 g), and number of leaves (19.00), compared to 60% and 50% EBM, as well as the negative control.Concentration 70% EBM gave almost the same growth results as the positive control (with NAA hormone). Keywords: shallot extract (EBM), shoot cuttings, Eucalyptus

Abstract

Collembola is an organism that is beneficial to the soil because it supports plant life in the soil, plays an important role as a modifier of soil organic matter and improves soil physical properties. The purpose of this study was to determine the diversity and abundance of Collembola around the rhizosphere of Rosa hybrida, Jasminum sambac, and Zinnia elegans plants in Taman Ngrowo Bening Madiun. Soil sampling was carried out 3 times in repetition, soil sampling using a soil drill at 3 locations, namely around the rhizosphere of Rosa hybrida plants, rhizosphere of Jasminum sambac plants, and rhizosphere of Zinnia elegans plants. The results of the study found a diversity of 6 species of Collembola including Lobella sp, Hypogastrura sp, Isotomurus sp, Heteromurus sp, Orchesella sp, and Pseudosinella sp. The highest abundance value was found around the rhizosphere of Jasminum sambac plants, namely 36 individuals. Around the rhizosphere of Rosa hybrida plants there are 19 individuals and around the rhizosphere of Zinnia elegans plants there are 33 individuals with a total abundance of 88 individuals. The Collembola diversity index around the rhizosphere of Rosa hybrida was H'= 0.68063, in the rhizosphere of Jasminum sambac H'= 1.24794, and in the rhizosphere of Zinnia elegans H'= 0.66161. Keywords: Collembola, Rosa hybrida, Jasminum sambac, Zinnia elegans

Abstract

Hyperglycemia is a state of increasing blood sugar levels above the limits normal. Hyperglycemia occurs because of an increase in glucose levels in the blood that is more than 126 mg/dl for a fasting state. Bay leaves are used as a treatment for hyperglycemia. The content that exists in bay leaf such as alkaloids and saponins which can increase insulin secretion from beta cells pancreas. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of bay leaf extract (Syzygium polyanthum) as antihyperglycemic in mice glucose induced. This study was used an experimental method with a pretest posttest control group design with divided mice test animals into 5 groups: the negative control was given 0.5% CMC Na, the positive control was given glibenclamide at a dose of 0.65 mg/kgBW, the treatment group was given extract bay leaf ethanol at a dose of 125 mg/kg, a dose of 250 mg/kg and a dose of 500 mg/kg. The mice were fasted for 12 hours while still being given water and then measured fasting blood glucose levels using a glucometer then the mice were induced with 20% glucose so that the mice experienced hyperglycemia (˃126 mg/dl). The results showed that the ethanol extract of bay leaves was effective in reducing blood glucose levels in hyperglycemic with mice decrease in the average extract dose of 125 mg/kgBW of 79 ± 8.31 mg/dl, dose of 250 mg/kgBW of 79.4 ± 6, 82 mg/dl, and a dose of 500 mg/kgBW of 87.4 ± 9.66 mg/dl. Keywords: Bay leaf (Syzygium polyanthum), Mice, Hyperglycemia, Glucose.
