Abstract

This study aims to describe the relevancy of teaching method in teaching Reading Comprehension with Syllabus and Lesson Plan in Junior High Schools in Perbaungan. The relevance that used is the relevance of an assumption to a context. The subjects of this study are the five English teachers of four Junior high Schools in Perbaungan. The instruments for collecting data used are : observations, treatment and the method of this study is qualitative research method. The data was taken after giving treatment. After conducting the research, it was found that two teachers used KWL Method in teaching Recount text, one teacher used PORPE Method in teaching Narrative text and they applied their teaching methods in teaching learning process in teaching Reading Comprehension are relevance with Lesson Plan and Syllabus result the students’ achievement in reading comprehension is high and above KKM ( Kriteria Ketuntasan Minimal / Minimal Completeness Criteria), one teacher applied his teaching method in teaching learning process in teaching Reading Comprehension is not relevance with Lesson Plan and Syllabus and one teacher did not apply a teaching method in teaching learning process in teaching Reading Comprehension. Abstract

The problem of this study is how Recount Text application in writing English text was and what the obstacle was. The purpose of this research is to find how Recount Text application in writing in English was and to find out what the obstacles was. The method used in this research was qualitative method in the form of case studies. The population was students of SLB Taman Pendidikan Islam. The number of students consists of 7 students and the whole will be sampled in the study. The conclusion of this research was found that recount text need more practice. It means that the application of recount text was not implicate well in Extraordinary School (SLB) Taman Perguruan Islam Medan. Teacher should be given many vocabularies. Vocabularies were the important things in writing text. How students able write well if they did not have vocabulary references. The solution of this problem was deaf students should be given short story so they can not only enjoy the story but also have many vocabulary references. The location of this research was in the Disable School (SLB) ABC Taman Pendidikan Islam (TPI) which was located at Jl. Sm. Raja Km. 7 no.5 Harjosari Medan. The conclusion of this research was found that recount text need more practice. It means that the application of recount text was not implicate well in Extraordinary School (SLB) Taman Perguruan Islam Medan. Keywords: writing achievement, recount text, kids with special needs

Abstract

This study aims to discover the effect of applying Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition (CIRC) Technique on Student’s Achievement in writing Recount Text. It was conducted by using experimental research design. This population was the 80 students of SMP Negeri 1 Stabat as Sample. The samples of the research were two classes divided into two groups, experimental and control group which were chosen by using random sampling technique. The Grade VIII-B as Experimental Group was taught by using Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition and grade VIII-A as control group was taught by using conventional teaching writing. The instrument used to collect the data was by asking the students to write a Recount text. Based on the result of the data analysis, it was concluded that using Cooperative Integrated Reading and Composition significantly affect the student’s ability in writing recount text (t-calculated > t-table, p=0.05). The using CIRC made the students write recount text grammatically that without using CIRC. The calculation of t-test is 2.38 > 1.67 with df 78 and the level of significance 0.05. It means that the using CIRC has significant effect on writing recount text. Abstract

This research was aimed to answer the question about the implementation of short story technique whether it can enrich the students’ English vocabulary at Class VIII SMP HKBP PAJAK BARU BELAWAN or not, This is an experimental research. the writer tested the null hypothesis (Ho) which stated that the use of short story cannot enrich the students’ English vocabulary at Class VIII,.The text that used for short story technique in this reseacrh was monologue text (a text that displays story teller) this research focused on narrative text (imaginative experiences) particularly, narrative text was related to the syllabus of the second semester for second grade of junior high school. After the Pretest, Treatment and Post test, there is a significant difference of mean score got both of experimental group (75.25) and the control group (72,75). T-observe > T – table ( P = 0,05) df (38), or 4,46 > 1,686 (P = 0,05). It means that alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. Thus it can be conclude that by using Reading Short Story affects the students’ vocabulary masterthat there is a significant effect of Reading Short Story in students’ vocabulary mastery. Abstract

The objectives of this research are to find out the students ability in expressing gratitude and appreciation by using Think-Pair-Share Strategy and to find out the achievement levels of the students ability in expressing gratitude and appreciation by using think pair share strategy at the sixth grade students of SD Yabes School. The good teacher is able to find the good strategy in the teaching and learning process so that the students will interest to study English. One of strategy used in teaching speaking ability in express gratitude and appreciation is Think-Pair-Share Strategy. The population of this study was all of the sixth grade students of SD Yabes School which consist of 30 students, all the population used as the sample so that the sample consist of 30 students.This study use quantitative research using an experimental design and control design, the examiner intentionally revised appearance of the difference and then it was examined how the result was. This research required two groups of student namely experimental group and control group. experimental group was treated with Think-Pair-Share Strategy during speaking. where as control group was treated without Think-Pair-Share. From the total score pre test of the experimental class (1.600) and the total score pre test of the control class (1.360) can be concluded that the achievement of both group was the same. After getting the treatment (Thik-Pair-Share), the total score post-test of the experimental (2.337) was higher than the total score post-test of the control class (1.686) which did not get the treatment. It can be said that teaching Think-Pair-Share gave positive effect on the students, speaking achievement in expressing gratitude and appreciation Key Words : Gratitude and Appreciation, Think-Pair-Share Strategy

Abstract

The objective of the study is to find out correlation between vocabulary mastery and students’ ability in arranging random word into good sentence of the 2014/2015 ninth year students of SMP Negeri 2 Stabat.The population of the study was the 2014/ 2015 the ninth year students of SMP Negeri 2 Stabat, totaling about 199 students. It was taken 20% from 199 students. It is 40 of them randomly as the sample of the research.This research was conducted by applying the correlationaldesign. The reliability of the test is counted by using Pearson Product Moment formula. The instrument was used to collect the data were multiple choicetest consisting of 20 items and essay test consisting of 20 items. Then the writer checked and gave score for both tests. The scores then were displayed in tables. After the data had been collected and analyzed, the findings showed that the value of t observed that is 0.50 is higher than the value of the ttable. It means that the test substantially high.This finding proves the hypothesis that the vocabulary mastery significantly correlates to students’ ability in arranging random word into good sentence of the 2014/2015 ninth years students of SMP Negeri 2 Stabat.
