Abstract

This research examines the dynamics of domestic violence (KDRT) and Lily Bloom's escape from a violent relationship in the novel It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover. Based on Lenore Walker's cycle of violence theory, this research analyzes how Lily experiences repeated violence from her husband, Ryle Kincaid. Research findings show that the domestic violence experienced by Lily follows a cyclical pattern consisting of three phases; (1) Tension-Building, characterized by increasing tension in Lily and Ryle's relationship because small fights, disagreements and frustration become the initial trigger. (2) Acute Violence Phase, which is the peak of the cycle of violence, where Ryle commits acts of physical violence against Lily. (3) Reconciliation Phase which shows Ryle's regret and apology.

Abstract

Crazy Rich Asians, directed by Jon M. Chu, tells the story of a couple, Rachel and Nick, who have very different social identities and social classes. Abstract

This study explores the portrayal of social classes in the film Snowpiercer (2013) through the lenses of Karl Marx's and Guy Standing’s theories. Social class, defined as groupings of individuals based on shared wealth and status within a societal hierarchy, serves as the central focus. The analysis draws on dialogue and visual imagery from the film to explore how these classes are depicted and their interactions examined. The bourgeoisie, represented by the elite, salariat, and proficians, wield significant power and privilege within the train's stratified society. In contrast, the proletariat—comprising the working class, precariat, unemployed, and detached—is marginalized, enduring harsh conditions and limited access to resources. This analysis underscores the film's exploration of social class, highlighting themes of inequality and the human condition in a dystopian setting. Future research could further enrich understanding by exploring alternative theoretical frameworks and comparative analyses across different media and genres. Keywords: social class, contributing factors, inequality, wealth, resources.

Abstract

Psychological growth becomes an essential need to achieve a better quality of life. The way to achieve wholeness and authenticity is individuation. This research examines the individuation process described by Nora Seed in The Midnight Library (2020). The study uses Carl Jung's concept of individuation by emphasizing the role of the personal unconscious and archetypes. The psychological problem of the protagonist's character is despair. Individuation plays the stages of integration by exploring the unconscious, unmasking the persona, accepting the shadow, and acknowledging the animus. Finally, the findings reveal how Nora Seed's individuation process in The Midnight Library can reveal psychological growth from despair to wholeness and authenticity.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the individuation process of Kyoshi, the main character in F. C. Yee's novel Avatar: The Rise of Kyoshi, on her journey to self-realization as the Avatar. This research employs a qualitative model based on Carl Jung's theory of individuation. In order to obtain the results, the researcher examined five archetypes of Kyoshi's individuation process, namely persona, shadow, ego, animus, and self. The researcher gathered data from a variety of sources, including narration, dialogue, monologues, and contextual information from the novel. This research presents findings on Kyoshi's archetypes, indicating that she has successfully completed the individuation process as the Avatar. This study is anticipated to offer insights for further research examining novel characters using a psychoanalytic approach, particularly Carl Jung's individuation process theory. Abstract

Nowadays, a lot of mental problems arise in an individual, especially a child. This is due to the trauma felt by the individual. The most common case is the disharmonious relationship between parents and children. In fact, the family is one of the first educators or character builders before an individual knows the outside world. Through the discussion of the symbolic system that influences the emergence of desire in the We Need to Talk About Kevin movie chest released in 2011 by Lynne Ramsay, it shows how the symbolic stage influences the mental formation and interaction of individuals with others. By doing a careful reading of the subtitles and analyzing the film, this research aims to prove the influence of the symbolic stage in shaping individual characters. It is evidenced by the formation of a psychopathic personality in the main character due to the harsh treatment of his parents. The influence on his relationship with others is evident in the lack of quality interaction shown by the character. Symbolic stage also affects the character's mental health. It is characterized as manipulative, two-sided, and antisocial or alienated from the outside world. Indicating that it traumatizes the individual.  Keywords: Symbolic, Desire, Relationship, Mental Health, Psychopaths
