Abstract

Point Quarter Method is a plant community structure measurement procedure. The technique is base on measurement of distance of four plants or trees in every  quarter  that is made by four space in the cross line sampling field studies. In forest sampling, point centered quarter methods is considered as the efficient, reliable and accurate data,  not only for mean distance and density, but for frequency and dominance of species. So it is important to try wether these method ould be applicated to animal, especially crab. These method was applicated for crab population in Padang Beach at December 22nd, 2014.  Ten points quartered were made and the distance of every Ocypode sp crab burrow was counted by ruler. Mean distance of crabs burrow gained by divided of total number of quarter (20) with  mean distance of every burrow to the point. Density per hectare is 10,000 m divided by quadratic of mean distance. Mean distance of burrow to points were counted and prediction of population per hectare could be found. In these case, mean distance was: 0.41 m and crab population  is :59,488.34 individu per hectare. Compared to other species , eg Scylla serrata, its population is bigger, eventhough the condition of beach is polluted and wastedKeywords: point centered quarter method, Ocypode sp, density

Abstract

Javan Munia (Lonchura leucogastroides) is recently common bird species in southern Sumatra, but no breeding record reported in Sumatra. On 11 October 2015, an active nest of Javan Munia and few juveniles were seen among bunches of Banana (Musa sp) fruits in Sukarejo village, Musi Rawas district, South Sumatra province. This observation is constitute first record of Javan Munia in Sumatra. Keywords: First, observation, nest, Javan Munia, Sumatra.

Abstract

The research was conducted at four stations in the Omuta-gawa River, Kyushu, Japan from December 2003 to July 2005. The results of the monthly survey clearly indicated that Hediste japonica has one generation per year. The reproductive period of this species is from late December to late February, and also occurred on H. diaroma, that it has one generation per year. The reproductive period of this species in the Omuta-gawa River is from middle December to late April, when reproductive swarming of mature adults occurs. This reproductive period is much longer than that of H. japonica. Both Hediste species, spawning, fertilization and early development occur in water column with a long pelagic larval life. Keywords: life history, Hediste japonica, H. diadroma, reproductive period, estuary

Abstract

Fish nursery grounds are important for the life cycle of fishes and often these areas are not particularly well studied or the processes understood in Sumatra. On December 2014, The blackfishes in swamp ecosystem of South Sumatera consist of Channa striata, Clarias batrachus, Anabas testudineus, Trichogaster trichoterus, Polyacanthus hasselti, Rasbora argyrotaenia, Betta taeniata, Betta anabantoides, Monopterus albus, Notopterus notopterus,  Trichogaster pectoralis, Trichogaster leeri, Oxyeleotris marmorata and Helostoma temmincki.. This observation is constitute first record of blackfishes in Sumatra. Keywords: First, nursery grounds, blackfishes, observation, sumatra.

The research was conducted in May until June 2015, conducted on 4 transect observation purposively determined by considering the type of habitat herpetofauna and the results of a preliminary survey. The method used in this research is the Visual Encounter Survey (VES). Observations carried out in the morning and evening. The total number of herpetofauna were found during the observation as many as 15 species of 9 families. The number of amphibians was found as many as 6 species of 3 families and reptiles as many as 9 species of 6 families.
