Abstract

EFFECT OF HIGH AND DISTANCE OF CUTTING TIME OF DWARF ELEPHANT GRASS (pannisetum purpureum cv. Mott) ON VEGETATIVE GROWTH AND DRY MATERIAL PRODUCTION. This research aims to identify and obtain data about the effect of height and distance of cutting time on vegetative growth and dry material production of dwarf elephant grass (pannisetum purpureum cv. Mott). The treatments were applied into factorial design on the base of Group Random Design (GRD) which consists of two factors and three replications. Factor A were cutting height, a1 = 0 cm above the ground, a2= 5 cm above the ground, a3= 10 cm above the ground, a4= 15 cm above the ground. Factor B age of cutting, b1 = 20 days, and b2 = 30 days. The measured variables were including the number of tillers, ratio of leaf/stem and dry material production. Result of analysis of variance (ANOVA) showed that the number of tillers and dry ingredient of grass were affected very significantly (P < 0,01) by the interaction of high of cutting and the age of plant. However, the age of plant was giving a significantly different effect (P < 0,05) on the leaf/steam ratio. While the interaction high of cutting and age of plant did not significantly affect (P > 0,05) the leaf/steam ratio. Based on the research, it can be concluded that I order to ensure the continued production of P.purpureum cv.Mott measured in the number of tillers and dry ingredient, it should be cut at the age of 20 and 30 days with a cutting height of 15 cm above ground level. The highest value of leaf/steam ratio was obtained at the cutting age of 20 days. Keywords : P. purpureum cv. Mott, high and age of cutting, growth, dry material production

Abstract

ABSTRACT COMPARISON OF BIOLOGICAL VALUE OF LOCAL AND IMPORT FEED IN INDONESIAN CHILD RACE HORSE. This research aims to determine the livestock child race horse's ability to digest feed, both local and imported feed. Digestibility of nutrients is a factor that determines the quality of feed ingredients or feed consumed by the livestock horses. This research used Statistics t-test method.Techniques of data retrieval are interviews and direct observations at sites of breeding racehorses. Data collected ie the type of local feed (corn, rice bran, fish meal, soybean, mung beans, coconut cake) and the types of imported feed (sustaina). The amount of feed (forage and concentrates) were given to livestock of child racehorse obtain the amount of feces (g / head / day) is then taken as many as 12 samples each of 8 racehorses using local feed and 4 racehorses use imported feed. The variables measured are digestibility of energy and protein digestibility. The results of the research are digestible energy (local feed ± 85.92 and imported feed ± 87.58) and protein digestibility (local feed ± 75.86 and imported feed 86.89 ±). T test, showed that the energy digestibility of feed imports give effect not significantly different (P> 0.05) compared to local feed while the digestibility of protein feed imports significantly different (P <0.01) in comparison with the local feed. Based on these results it can be concluded that the digestibility of protein for imported feed better than the local feed. Keywords: livestock horses, local feed, imported feed, digestibility

Abstract

UTILIZATION EFFECT OF MOLASSES AS ENERGY SOURCE IN THE DIETS ON GROWING RABBIT PERFORMANCE. Molasses had been used previously in animal feeds. The present study was conducted to determine the effect of molasses utilization in the diets on growing rabbits. The study was conducted during five weeks at Department of Animal and Feed Science Laboratory, Faculty of Animal Husbandry, University of Sam Ratulangi, Manado. Twenty eight-weeks weaned female rabbits with an initial body weight of 600 -700 gr were used in this trial. Animals were allocated in an individual cage. A Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 4 treatments and 5 replications was used for analysis of variance. Treatments were formulated as follow: R0 = 100% basal diet + 0% molasses; R1 = 98% basal diet + 2% molasses; R2 = 96% basal diet + 4% molasses; and R3 = 94% basal diet + 6% molasses. Variables measured were daily feed consumption, water consumption, daily gain, and feed conversion. Research results showed that average daily feed consumption in the present study ranged from 58.1 to 60.4 g; daily water consumption from 127.2 to 163.8 liters; daily gain from 20.1 to 20.9 g; and feed conversion ratio of about 3.57 to 3.80. Statistical analysis revealed that utilization of molasses replacing part of basal diets up to 6% gave no significant differences on daily feed consumption, water consumption, daily gain, and feed conversion ratio.  It can be concluded that molasses as an energy source can be utilized up to 6% in growing rabbit diets without any negative effects. Keywords: Molasses, diets, growing rabbits performance
